Great video as always. Love the info, the message, & the energy. Agricultural self sufficiency is a noble thing for us to aspire to.

So great to see that gardeners and farmers are uplifted and respected so much in the west and in Hawai'i but not the case in my country Philippines because small farmers here are poor but I won't give up my homesteading goal. I already planted several varieties of avos last year.

I wish that were the case. We are trying but farmers are still poor and underpaid

Great tips! I will not give up on the few avacodo trees we have as they have lace bug…they look dead but am reassured that they will be back…onto the grafting video🤙

They normally just grow right back, unless they're young. Have you tried Tony Vera's MAyan Healing rain? He swears by it for managing lace bug.

Thanks for such an informative video. We have lacebugs here on Kauai too. Completely defoliated my small tree…twice! I’ve been spraying it with neem oil once a week for the past few months. It seems much happier and very few lacebugs. Fingers crossed for avocados one day! Aloha!
@HomesteadinHawaii

You'll get there, the lace bugs are annoying but if you keep the tree well fed, they should just make new leaves.

Dang, I would make two Frankenavocados. Close to each other and A/B grafted plus different types to have year-round production of the different types. LOL

Totally, a multi grafted all year round producing a/b type tree. We could make millions mwahaha!!

Do you know if there is a systemic treatment for lacebugs? We've been spraying neem generally, and organic chicken shit as one of our ferts (plus mulch, compost tea etc). They've decimated a few of our trees up the mountain (upper Puna). Excellent video - thanks!

You should look up tony Vera of Mayan world farms. You can find him on instagram. I made a video showing off his homestead. He makes a product he calls Mayan healing rain that he swears protects against lace bug. He’s in orchidland

@@HomesteadinHawaii We picked up a jug from him and I have used it on a few avos, a white sapote, some mangosteens, and a couple of lemon trees as well as a guava. It has taken care of the issues I was having. He even claims it will work on buncht top virus, but I haven't had that issue.

Ive noticed grafted avos often die if left in a pot for too long, probably from lace bug. The seedlings do just fine tho, so i prefer to take the risk and plant seeds.

When they were planted in the same hole the a type was more vigorous but otherwise b’s hood their own but tend to be a little smaller

Your chances of getting a good avocado out of a seed is 1 in 10,000, so not recommended, ever!

@@chrisporter449 You're talking about a chance of "producing avocados" at all, which is about that much. When you combine producing avocados with the avocados being of high quality, producing consistently, producing a lot, and being resistant to diseases then yes, you can get into the one thousands probability very easily. It's not as easy as it seems.
