Thanks, my 2 abiu trees flowered and fruited in about 3 years. I was surprised..

Aloha Sean! I’m still trying to figure out if I like Abiu. My Z1 grafted tree is productive but the fruit is watery and tastes like spoiled pumpkin 🤮 I’ve bought them at the market and they tasted very similar but I’ve heard so many people talk about how good they are and I’m sure there’s something to that. Maybe I just haven’t found a good one. 🤙

That’s what I mentioned in the video, I haven’t found the grafted varieties to be that good, but seedlings have been delicious

I love abiu. I have 2 seedlings that hope to get to eat some from them.

I have one abiu tree in Puerto Rico, but I have no idea what variety it is. They grow pretty big, are very sweet and they have a hint of coconut. I love them and will grow more of them! Thanks for the info you put on this video!

I don't think you need to know the variety, if you have a good one, that's all that matters, I like my seedling more than my grafted variety. Enjoy!!

For the abiu fruit, how long can I store the seeds? I wanted to buy the seeds online, but I heard that they spoil quickly.
@HomesteadinHawaii3 ай бұрын
I sell Abiu seeds online. The seeds can stay viable up to two weeks if kept moist. When I sell them, I typically harvest the fruit a day before shipping, clean the seed, have it inspected and then ship it out in less than 2 days from harvest, arriving to you typically between 3-5 days. I have no idea why my abui leaves keep yellowing and drying out. any suggestions

It would be hard to say without seeing it, I like to think that a good compost will solve almost any problem though. Take care of the soil you take care of the plants

Aloha Sean. I live in HPP and heard you had plants for sale. Looking for Longan and Kaimana Lychee etc. Do you have any and how do I find you?
@HomesteadinHawaii11 ай бұрын
I might have one longon left. I might start airlayering some lychee next month.

Your Esty link is not working. Could I buy a few seed from you, to see if they grow in our South Texas area. I am about 70 mile from South Padre Island Tx. Sub tropical.
@HomesteadinHawaii11 ай бұрын
Pretty sure it’s fixed now, thanks for letting me know
@southtexashay77711 ай бұрын
Yes sir. What do you think would grow in our area. We can grow Mangos and Avocados that are some what cold tolerant. I will get an occasional freeze for a short time. Thank you.@@HomesteadinHawaii

@@southtexashay777 You could probably pull of papaya, lilikoi, longon, soursop and maybe rollinia. Just keep them moist, plant on the southside and use plenty mulch.

I also went to check out your store (although the link in the description doesn’t work for me,) and I thought your prices were reasonable. As an avid seed saver myself, I don’t think many people understand the amount of hand labor and effort that it requires, nor how rarely cultivated some varieties are today (but by hobbyist and homesteaders!) Particularly if you are selling seeds that must be planted within a week of being harvested…. That means you have to harvest them and ship them right away! It’s not like you can just collect a bunch and store them. 😂 And it’s not like anyone is going to find them at the garden section of Walmart. 🤣 Anyway, I just wanted to say that I love your teacher’s heart, and while all the tropicals in my yard are pretending to die in this subtropical winter chill, I enjoy seeing your new Hawaiian homestead projects and ideas! Keep up the good work, yeah? 🤙

Thanks for saying that sue, you bring up many good points for why these seeds would be higher cost than others

I dont fertilize them, ours is 3 years old, pruned every 3 months or so, its about 12 feet tall now, pruning it for orchard size. We use indigenous micro organisms. Healthy soil is better in the long run for no maintenance fruit trees. Just prune and harvest. Sun and airflow are key! They love water, we live in the humid tropics
@HomesteadinHawaii11 ай бұрын
I just use compost and mulch to feed my trees. IMO’s are great too!
