DISCLAIMER: This fix is not building code compliant in some areas. Not recommended to drill into king stud. My friend wanted this done to avoid a massive cost addition on the project. Talk with local authority having jurisdiction if your not sure. Please leave your nasty comments here!!

when you used the level was that level or some kind of inclination for the pipe?

you put a rubber clamp on coupling on the vent line don't they have abs slip on couplings you could just glue in? we use pvc around here seems abs is popular on west coast for earthquakes probably
@ThatFixItGuy2 жыл бұрын
Abs does not shatter like pvc can is the reason I guess. But I think they make soft core pvc as well. I don’t really know what I just know they do. I had no play on that top pipe that is why I had to use a no hub. Makes the repair easier. I have not see a slip abs coupling. How would that work being glued?

i have an old hole hawg and one day it stopped working the motor came on and drill bit wouldn't spin the shaft actually sheared off inside the drill so guy at repair shop called Milwaukee and they said they would cover the repair because it was a bad batch of main drive shafts it happened to a lot of people's drills even though it was not under warranty

Sorry but what happens at 4:55 on the top part of the pipe to be able to connect the two pipes together? Looks like some sort of sleeve or threading?
@ThatFixItGuy2 жыл бұрын
it is a no hub coupling. It is a rubber gasket that then has a metal sleeve with two worm clamps on it that secures both sides together.
@bkoz3194 жыл бұрын
you need to use a long turn 90 or (2) 45's under the sink. You used a 90 Ell which is against code.....very hard to snake the drain the way you did it... that why its the code
@ThatFixItGuy4 жыл бұрын
WA state UPC that is not a code violation. I can see where it might be nice to put a long sweep in there for snaking purpose, but I have never seen a long sweep installed there. Thank you for watching.

Great Vid. I have a question: can I use a low inlet trap for a garbage disposal and cut the black pipe from disposal? The wall drain height is 17 1/2 O.C and the new single bowl sink is 10” deep (undermount) dishwasher is gonna be connected to disposal. Thanks.
@ThatFixItGuy4 жыл бұрын
You could be ok as long as the drain line coming out of the wall is lower than the disposal discharge. If not you will want to cut and lower the drain in the wall.

Thank you so much.

I don't believe that you are allowed to drill through a king stud on a load bearing wall. You could go up to about 2" hole if you double up framing studs on load bearing walls. Maybe your building code is different, but feel free to let me know if I am wrong. Thanks!
@regularguy92643 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify, I often see the trap arm running through cabinets due to this issue.....admittedly very ugly though and homeowners don't like it. My guess is that with the shear reinforcement of the plywood and being on the second floor only supporting the roof, the structural would never become an issue. Just don't know that code allows for it.
@ThatFixItGuy3 жыл бұрын
No are correct that you should not notch out or drill the king stud, totally against code. It was a situation that would have cost an arm and leg to do any other way. With crawl space constraints or king stud replacement they were into the realm of crazy money to make a proper code approved repair. repair. Thought about bringing out the wall and notching the cabinet, but the dishwasher gies in that space and was not going to fit properly if the pipe got 45ed out. I did not want to get into that on a video, but looking back I should have. I am going to take the video down. I don't want people learning wrong things from me. I really love doing this and am not in the habit of bad practices.
@regularguy92643 жыл бұрын
I'd rather you leave it up and add a caveat. There's not much content on KZbin for this type of issue. I think that Simpson makes a stud shoe to reinforce a notched stud, but don't know if it can be used for a King stud.....might be another option
@ThatFixItGuy3 жыл бұрын
Sounds Good. I have not seen a stud shoe for a king stud. I am searching for other options. Have reached out to a few people. I will write a disclaimer comment and pin it. There is already a disclaimer in the description box of the video. I'm trying to help not hinder! Thank you

drilling thru those 2x4 like that will weaken your structure
@ThatFixItGuy4 жыл бұрын
How do you put the pipe in the walls if you don't drill out the 2x4? I would love to know your method.
@21gonza214 жыл бұрын
Just have your pipe come up from the floor
@ThatFixItGuy4 жыл бұрын
You can do that, but you still have vent pipe that needs to be ran in the walls. You don't want a piece of two inch pipe just hanging out there exposed.
@timdouglass49343 жыл бұрын
As a builder I agree that installing a 2" line thru a 2x4 stud doesn't leave much of the stud left but their isn't any alternative. Your right about the hole hawg, when it binds up and it will you'll come out on the losing end every time and I don't care you are. Good straight to the point well made video. My brother gave me some good advice. He said when using a pistol grip type 1/2" drill motor with a hole saw , grip it in your left hand. He said when it binds up the drill motor will come out of your hand naturally without torguing your wrist.
@ThatFixItGuy3 жыл бұрын
That is great advice from your brother! I will keep the left hand trick in mind. Thank you for your input in this. It is the way I was taught to install the pipe. Much better than notching it out.
