OK. But there are other teachers who make the same difference as Maddy. I read for example this : "To do the shopping describes the regular process of going to the supermarket to buy food and the other necessary items we need to live on a day to day basis. There is an aspect of doing this regularly and it is more of an obligation than an enjoyable activity, for most." So, "go shopping" is possible for all kinds of things, but it's not illogical to use the expression "Do the shopping " to speak of everyday grocery shopping ! As for me, I think it's not a mistake but just a way to show that we can express differently. Maddy isn't Marina ! 230314

@@cookieo4874 I'm learning English. I don't want to learn only American English. Sometimes I watch videos that teach GB English. So, I know that in US you say "go shopping " for everything, but, having opened the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English I read this : "do the shopping : to go shopping to buy food and other things you need regularly" ( + examples.) That's it!

Guys, native-speakers ....help me to figure this out! Is it correct to say? " Wellington is further from Sidney than Auckland." Why "further" not "farther"?
@dannyjorde2677
@dannyjorde2677 Жыл бұрын
You can use both, they're interchangeable. "Further" is a much commoner word, and is in addition used in various abstract and metaphorical contexts, for example referring to time, in which "farther" is unusual. I personally like to use "farther" for physical distance and "further" for figurative distance.
