I moved to North Carolina one year ago. The best decision I ever made. Before I moved, I was warned of racist people, I haven’t met any, I was warned of bad drivers, none encountered. I’m also a practicing Christian so I’m not into clubbing or nightlife or taking alcohol, still I’m enjoying my life. I’m African. To whoever wants to move anywhere in the world, if God says yes then go because where God guides he provides, protects, blesses. Shalom and Merry Christmas.

Whoever warned you are definitely against us. I was born in the more country part of NC and I’ve never seen any racism or bad drivers ever. Also two things we do take very seriously is BBQ and duke Vs UNC. Teachers at school fight over which is better and neighbors try to out grille each other. It’s crazy but it’s funny. Also if you haven’t you should try cheerwine, it’s the drink of North Carolina

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

Then while walking one day, I was surrounded by about two dozen black men who were threatening me because I didn't belong in their neighborhood. Those are only two stories. Great video! Earlier this year my daughter married a Marine stationed in Jacksonville, NC so in April we helped her move down there. Both my wife and I were so amazed by that southern hospitality, we don't do much traveling but by far the people there were the best. We live in the upper midwest and thought that we were friendly people but we do not compare at all. Perfect strangers would say hi and even have short conversations with us and that was coming from all ethnic groups. Y'all down there just seem happier.

Love this video, every single thing is true. I'm born and raised in NC. Lived in Graham for 10 years where they have the statue in the spot where the man was hung in front of the court house. Wasn't much to do there, so I moved closer to Greensboro. You will cuss everyday when driving here, no one can drive or park - they are completely oblivious as to how big their vehicle is. We are also serious about our college teams - UNC and Duke is a huge rivalry here. The mosquitos, earwigs and camel crickets will run you out of here too. And yes, when it sleets we shut the schools down completely, it aint got to snow yet. Be prepared to be snowed in for 3 days because we can't clear the roads. Folks still buy all the milk and bread whenever there is a threat of inclement weather. If you go too far in the country you will still see the old slave houses and rows and rows of tobacco fields. Tractors are still on the road, small country stores, no cell phone signal and the southern drawl gets deeper and heavier the further south you go. If you stay in the city, close to downtown area you will be just fine. We get all the seasons and all the natural disasters, I swear we had a mini earthquake one year lol. We don't put our winter and summer clothes up, you just never know what the week is going to bring. Sweet tea has to be served at every single restaurant, or we will think you are crazy. North Carolina is a great place to live; I don't plan on moving from NC and I love to see new people move here from all parts of the state/country. Love to meet people from all walks of life.

I love it here. It’s very peaceful, nice friendly people, found a great family church. We did look for a home in Graham, but all of my relatives there are all gone.I remember the court house in Graham, and as a kid, we used to go to the Graham movie theater on Main Street. I had the displeasure of visiting a friend in SC. It’s even worse there. It seems the state and the small cities can’t keep up with the growth. At some intersections, you either floor it and pull out in front of somebody, or sit there for 30 minutes, maybe longer. At least they aren’t waiting to expand I-85 like NC did.

Beware of NC state medical laws such as 90-21.13. This statute declares in layman’s terms that once you sign a medical consent form you are basically at the mercy and capability of your provider. There will be no availability for legal representation unless the malpractice involves death. I wish someone told me. My life has been destroyed by the malpractice and the NC laws that support it.

I lived in Wilmington for 1.6 years, Fayetteville for 2.6 years, and I like both places. I agree what he has stated but most things are true about other places I lived. The pollen was really bad in Fayetteville. The pollen in GA and VA is mild. I am originally from VA, lived there 18 years, and presently living in middle GA for a total of 24 years. I've lived all over NC my entire 47 years of life including Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Rocky Mount, and Wilmington. Everything in this video is spot on. 1) Flying roaches are called "waterbugs" and they usually don't come into your house unless it is cold or it has been super rainy. They feed on decaying matter and typically live in your garden area where dead leaves can collect. 2) The jekyll and hyde thing is referenced as, "Bless your heart" OR "have a blessed day". This can mean quite often ,"*$#k off" and is used as psychological survival tactic by convenience store, grocery store, and retail outlet cashiers. Friendly customer service is not the goal. 3) The smallest amount of snow, which was referenced at an annual 3 to 5 inches for most of the state, shuts EVERYTHING down and for some dumb reason we buy up all the bread and milk because... no it makes 0 sense. 4) The gun culture is like manners, personal beliefs and the family Bible which are all passed down from generation to generation. People tend to believe and hold the values their parents taught them and there is very little straying away from that into adult life which means our culture tends to be slow and anti-progressive. 5) Wilmington is the most racist part of the state and in NC the racism comes at you from every angle and every color. No one gets left out. 6) The gators stay away from people for the most part, but they are abundant and thriving and get very big. 6 to 8 feet (imo) is common. 7) There are bears in Eastern NC too and because of so much construction and destruction of their habitat, it is common to hear about them in neighborhoods and this is 20 minutes from a few beaches. 8) Spot on with the wildlife. I'm a 9 minute drive to downtown Wilmington, but live in the country because suburbs weren't a thing in NC until the late 80s and early 90s. There is so much wildlife here that I set up a spot in my backyard called the Critter Corner with an actual sign (you can see videos at my Instagram account CSArtGallery with opposums and foxes eating together) and every night I have opposums, raccoons, and red tail foxes come up and eat the peanuts I leave out. I even had a rooster come up and hang out with me for a week... like he would sit in the chair on the patio (picture of that as well on IG)... you can't make this sh** up. We also have rattlesnakes, 8 to 9 inch long lizards, jumping spiders, etc. 9) There are LOTS of sharks and many of us don't go into the water anymore past our ankles. They bite and do so with regularity. Thanks to global warming we now have great white sharks too 🙄. 10).Finally, you left out one important detail. We go NUTS over college sports, ESPECIALLY basketball. You are born into fandom here and it's heritage. My Dad went to NC State and we buried him in a Wolfpack shirt (as he would have wanted it). Everybody who isn't a UNC Tarheel fan hates Tarheel fans. You have the type who actually went there or are legacy and we refer to them as the wine and cheese crowd. The rest of their fan base has 0 chance of getting into that school so we call them Walmart Carolina fans because it's their Tarhole merchandising Mecca. Bonus fact... In Eastern NC we have a sporadically occurring natural event called Seneca Guns (of course its got to have a gun attached) where a large and powerful BOOM will happen that shakes your entire house. It's occurred for hundreds of years (Seneca native American tribe legend) and it isn't the dozens of fighter jets we see each month breaking the sound barrier or an earthquake (earthquakes now occur in the middle and western part of the state). The latest theory is that it is an underwater landslide occurring far off the coast, but the boom resonates and makes its way inland.

After 20 yrs he finally got his CCW ,knows how and why it’s necessary to determine a snake or spider’s species as a friend vs foe . He’s also adapted some pretty great manners and southern hospitality during his assimilation. Can’t really comment on his driving adaptation bc he’s from S.Florida. It can only improve from there sooooo . Local honey does work for most people if done correctly. It has to be your specific region and the current year’s local honey to be effective . It works the same way a vaccine does . U introduce the immune system to an intruder ( allergen) deliberately in small , methodical , controlled doses . That way the immune system slowly learns how to effectively fight it . NC is definitely a F ‘ around and find out state when it comes to the wildlife and the people.

Thanks for an interesting video. I've lived in the state for nearly 30 years, although I'm from the NYC area and have lived in 6 states total, and currently retired and in Ohio. I lived in Greenville for almost 12 years, and then in Lenoir for slightly over 18. I would like to offer the following comments and observations. 1) That spider is a harmless garden spider or argiope, and it is found in NY and essentially throughout the eastern half of the US. 2) The eastern part of the state is hot and very humid in the summer. It is like Florida, but with colder winters. It is flat, and rattlesnakes, copperheads and water moccasins occur there. I have known a few people who were bitten by copperheads--one of them while in a parking lot in Farmville. Chiggers, often called 'red bugs' in North Carolina, are mites that cause itching under one's clothes that are much worse than mosquito bites, and I have literally received over 100 bites in some wooded areas, especially the Croatan and Uwharrie National Forests. Ticks and mosquitos are also present. One girl I knew there complained that when she wanted to eat her lunch outside on a pleasant December day, yellowjackets still came and wanted her to share it with them. 3) The mountains of NC can receive snow measured in feet at times, and it can get very cold. In January 1985, it reached 4 below zero F (ACTUAL TEMPERATURE!) in Greenville, and it killed the only large cabbage palmetto planted in someone's lawn. 4) Other things that are very popular in NC are basketball, auto racing and beach music. (I had never heard of the latter until I moved to NC.) People who live even a couple hours from the beach often talk as if it were right next to them. 5) One can see cypress swamps and Spanish moss in various areas in the eastern part of the state. Native species of palms grow as far northward as Goose Creek State Park, but are more common toward Wilmington, with the large cabbage palmetto being native to Bald Head Island but planted in many other area farther inland. 6) Fire ants occur in nearly half of the state. 7) There are many state parks in NC, and many are home to interesting natural features (as opposed to artificial lakes, etc. sometimes featured in other states), and until at least 2013 admission was free (and probably still is). 8) North Carolina is the only eastern state in which both fir trees (on high mountains) and palms (SE part of state) are both native. On some spring days having the right sequence of weather, it may be possible to stand where trees already have leafed out in the spring while looking at a mountain with snow on it in the distance (which I've experienced by looking at Grandfather Mountain from Lenoir). 9) Traffic lights (often called "red lights" in NC and some other southeastern states--either the people are pessimistic, or they don't realize this term has another meaning!) are frustratingly slow in many towns. (One might want to bring a good book to read while waiting for them to change!) Freeways are definitely appreciated even when the traffic is light in the cities and towns. 10) Driving in some of the cities can also be frustrating, although hopedly GPS helps. A view of a some of the cities on a road map looks like a web made by a spider that had taken LSD. Roads go in various directions almost randomly, and "must turn" signs appear with little warning, so it's easy to get lost and sometimes difficult to get back where you were going. I've driven in every state and several other countries, including other continents, and I find Hickory, NC to be one of the most frustrating, a comment I've heard from others. 11) Local people in NC typically greet by saying "hey". Hours even shortly after the noon hour are typically referred to as "evening" instead of "afternoon". If one is "ill" it refers to anger rather than being sick. If expecting a friend to show up, or even a bus or train to arrive, someone will say they're "waiting on" rather than "waiting for" the person or thing. Some of these are probably not unique to NC. 12) North Carolina has its style of barbecue sauce, made with vinegar. Some places are famous for it, such as "B's" near Greenville. By the way, if making reservations for Greenville with a national company, one must be certain to specify NORTH Carolina to avoid landing in the much larger and better-known Greenville, SOUTH Carolina. 13) As is true in many states, there are towns or cities named after the same person as the county, but in NC there are a number of cases in which the city by that name is not in the county having that that name, and sometimes they are widely separated. 14) If driving to NC from Tennessee on I-40, one should be aware that the first 15 miles in NC are very curvy, and a bit of a challenge in inclement weather, especially at night..

Half the city of Raleigh will jump on those roads and be in 10 car pileups from one end of the city to the other. Then they cry about the cost of car insurance. They have NO REASON to be on the roads. Their places of employment are shut down. The hospital workers are sheltered in place. I live in the Midwest now and this highlights the stuff I now don’t deal with such as the massive slugs you see after it rains, the whole family of dears that jump in front of your at night, the fire ants, AND THE SNAKES!!!!!!!! I hated having to be on alert for copperheads. If ants ever get in your house it’s a wrap. They go everywhere. I really enjoyed this video 😊

When people move to another state, they don’t think for a minute that another state means another driving style. They assume they’ve brought their entire world with them. The accidents that are piling up around the country as a result are a total nightmare. It’s only getting worse. No place that is getting flooded with people moving to their town or city is able to keep up with the infrastructure. It’s just awful in Wilmington. They just keep tearing down wooded lots because there is no buildable land left in town, and out of town developers come in and say oh look, I can fit a massive shopping complex where those trees are! Well that wooded area is a major part of our local flood management! Where is all the water gonna go when we have a storm and the former wooded lots are now paved concrete?? It’s gonna be ugly.

You should see the variety of roaches in New Orleans. My husband and I moved to the area in 2018 and moved out in 2022, because of the crime, but the roaches were everywhere in the house. They are one of the smartest and creepy flying bug I have ever seen. To get rid of every one of them; I personally had to start at 10pm for an hr and hunt them down. I did this for 4 months. Every one of them new me and they tried to hunt me down, because I was a threat to there family. I had them fly on me, craw in my bed and in the window seal and we lived in a beautiful historic house on St Charles Ave. I was determine to get each and every one of them off my property. At first I called a few different exterminators, but they we’re afraid, so I had to do it on my own and finally got rid of all of them. I meant business!!

This was a great intro to the State of North Carolina! Factual and concise. There are a few things that should also be mentioned. In your list of "beer, Bibles, bourbon and guns", you failed to mention "barbeque" in the pulled pork arena of tomato or vinegar based. This is a highly contested topic of east vs. west and the region in-between. Another point you brought up was the driving capabilities or lack of in this State. It us very true that the general cordial temperament of the citizens here disappears, for the most part, once they enter their respective vehicles. It is as if they enter a portal of a negative parallel dimension. I have been a resident of North Carolina since 1989 and live in the Sandhills area. I have also been a deputy sheriff and police officer here, so I have seen first hand society at its worst and its best. Your observations are very well thought out and articulated. For a law school graduate and a Realtor whose lively-hood depends on the influx of home buyers/sellers, you have given an honest evaluation of life here in the State. BTW, I am from North Jersey, one of those conservatives you mentioned although I still retain the right AND ability to think for myself. 64 yoa, w/m, medically retired. Have a good day and I just sub'd. PS: One other thing that may confuse those coming from NY or NJ looking to re-settle in NC, is that our Walmarts STILL HAVE PLASTIC BAGS. I was visiting family in NJ this summer and found out that it is illegal and has been, since May I believe, to have plastic bags. Quite a shock to this old guy. I called my wife who was still in NC when I found this out and she said there would be a revolution in NC if Walmart were to remove plastic bags. She is from NC, born and raised.

I do have a story about drivers in NC. I was house/dog sitting during Daytona for a friend back in the 90s. There was east coast blizzard, my friend got a ticket for doing the speed limit on his way back home as he was driving through NC. All of the other drivers were going below the speed limit and crashing. He got into West Virginia, every car was passing him nobody was crashing, he was still doing the speed limit with his Ford F350 with a fifth wheel camper.

GREAT video! A much-needed public service! Now retired, my work took me all over the East Coast from Montauk on Long Island to Naples on the Gulf Coast. I've lived on Long Island and Staten Island in New York. Sparrow's Point and Essex in Baltimore. And I've set up my camper and lived in it in a Farmer's field, several State Parks, and at the foot of a shrimp boat dock. And too many other places to mention. As you said, you were used to rats and cockroaches. Most City People are. But not FLYING cockroaches! Or snakes, spiders, and alligators! And with so many people now wanting to move out of the Cities, those City People need to hear what you're telling them. I laughed when you showed the BIG garden spider, it brought back fond memories from my childhood when I used to catch bugs and toss them into their webs to see them pounce on their victims and wrap them up with web. When the Norfolk Airport was extended a lot of woodland was razed, which chased all of the snakes into a small area by a stream, which had to be protected by a sediment fence to keep the muddy runoff out of the water. An entire work crew quit when they went into the area to set up the fence because it was slam-packed full of snakes. Then they hired me. Every time somebody hollered about a snake, I came running , caught the snake, and I kept putting them into a big burlap sack in the back of the Boss's truck. At the end of the day I was the last one out and approaching everyone gathered at the same truck ... when the boss pulled the bag out and opened it before I could stop him! In retrospect it was an hilarious scene ... but I'm probably the only one who thinks so! Scared the beejeebies out of the Boss ... bag of snakes tossed into the air ... workers scattering in all directions, as were the snakes. I grew up with such things ... so I'm familiar and comfortable in dealing with them. But if your not, it can make a HUGE difference in how you view your surroundings. People need to be made aware of just what they're getting into. They need to know that it's not some racist prank when they walk out to their car in the morning and it's covered with some kind of yellow powdery substance. It's NOT poison, it's just pollen. Just another part of Southern living!

My faince drove years in the DMV/DC area and never got in a car accident, literally the safest driver I've ever been in the car with, trust her with my life. But one day otw home from work in Wilmington, someone who didn't have a license(like most people down here honestly) literally used the pit maneuver on her and sent her flying into a huge concrete base for a lamppost. Totalled the car instantly and she had to go to the hospital. All because the bitch wanted ice cream and literally went to make a left turn from the middle lane when my fiance was on her left side. Like all she had to do was turn her head three inches to the left to see a car was there, people down here SHOULD NOT have cars at all.

Except for the Brown Recluse. They eat bugs too, and will not pursue mammals, but where they are present, reaching for that tool or box in a rarely used corner of your shed, could be lethal, or cost you a limb. Even indoors, they can take up residence in a pile of clothes, or a laundry basket that is left sitting too long. Not a creature to leave to its own devices.

EXCELLENT review 🙌🏾 Sir, LMAO as I listen to your wildlife summary. 😂 I thought the flying roaches were a problem, until I experienced a flying bug with a 3+ inch wingspan and had my attic invaded by squirrels 😵‍💫 I was dragged to NC by my ex, loved many natural items, made good friends (all imports) but left for all the reasons you mentioned. Like you, a New Yorker, I simply had to return to hear an accent. I craved diversity of people, art and culture. Folks, Sir is spot on. not exaggerating one iota. If you are moving to NC, I’d use this man’s RE firm ( I have a NY brokers license and lived in NC for 14 years) this REVIEW IS THE BEST I’VE HEARD on North Carolina, or any other state)

OMG! I laughed till I cried. I move to NC after my daughter said it was a great place, back in 2008. Now, realize, I was living and working in Honolulu, HI at that time. But it wasn't as much of a culture shock as I thought it would be. My daughter and her family live in Otto, NC. I found a small, one bed & bath up in the mountains in nearby Franklin, NC. I fell in love with the place. No big city traffic, beautiful vista's, not too hot or cold, friendly people. But, you're right! I'm not fond of the annual influx of sometimes rude tourists, usually from FL. And in Autumn, the "leaf lookers" come here in droves! Many people have second homes here and only are here to spend the cooler summers up here, rather than spend the time in the hotter, more humid areas of the south. I grew up in the Los Angeles area, and at 24 moved to the deserts and mountains of very rural Utah, where my husband and I raised our children on a working, but small, ranch. After my kids were on their own I moved to HI and lived there for 8 years in Honolulu. I've always preferred country over big cities. Bugs don't bother me, nor do spiders, snakes, bobcats or bears. I myself keep frogs, snakes, and tarantulas as pets. (Had to mention that to see if my hobby gave you the Willie's! LOL!). And yes, I too have a CC Permit. As well as my daughter, her hubby, and father-in-law. But our once small town is growing. Housing prices are ridiculously high. Every thing is getting expensive here. I'm paying gas prices that I haven't seen since I lived in Hawaii! But I digress. You are absolutely correct on all the points you made. NC may not be the place to live for many, but it's perfect for me.

Come to Maine the ticks are bugs and they will bother you. They're freaking everywhere. It's so sad because Maine is known for it's outdoors but the tick situation has gotten so bad over the last 10-15 years. They stopped spraying that's why. Never saw them before 20 years ago. Now you can't walk in the tall grass or the woods without getting them on you. Who wants lyme disease? No one. There's also another disease they carry that makes you allergic to red meat for the rest of your life, there's no cure. Disgusting things.

@@JoshuasRecordings the other side of that coin are those who seem to think that there is No Speed Limit (except the speed they want to drive), and of course No matter what speed you are driving is always - mph too slow for the road rat that is tailgating you . Pull in the left lane to pass any you will automatically find some NASCAR wannabe doing 30 over the speed limit just because you pulled into the left lane. Frankly that does not bother me as much as those who insist on passing on the right, and particularly doing so when one highway merges with another. Very stupid and dangerous. Look on the shoulder you will see makeshift memorials with a cross and flowers to coumarate where someone lost their life in a traffic accident. It is sobering.

My wife and I moved to North Carolina 11 years ago and do not regret it at all. Our daughter attended UNC Wilmington and that is where she met her husband. They live on the coast now. We lived in New England for over 35 years and could not wait to get away from the Northeast. I will not get into all the reason's but I can tell you that North Carolina has no issues as the north does, especially the cost of living. As for the guns, I hunt and also belong to a gun range and have a great collection of guns as well. I also have a very diverse bunch of great friends and we all do everything together. One of my very good friends is African American and my family and his are all good friends and often camp out or vacation together and have big cookouts as well. North Carolina has its pros and cons, but the pros are more and we love it. P.S, The drivers are crazy here and I have witnessed and been involved with the crazies. Just keep your eyes wide open and drive defensively and😁 you should be fine.

Loved this video. I didn’t expect it to be funny.😂 I have lived in Asheville NC for 30 years now. I still love it here. I love the wildlife, the mountains, waterfalls, and diverse communities. We regularly have black bears, fox, bobcats, deers, raccoons, snakes and flying squirrels because we live on a wooded lot. I can testify to the spiders here also. The driving problem is real. The thing we couldn’t understand was people coming around blind corners on your side of the road. When my husband cuts a curve I tell him he has lived here so long that he thinks he can drive like a North Carolinian. My advice though, don’t leave your garage doors open too long, you don’t know what may come in. My husband was wood working in the garage and realized something was right beside him. He looked down to see an adult black bear watching him work. I went to the garage sink once and realized two wild snakes were on the table next to me wrapped together in the heat of the moment shall I say. I include the term “wild” because we have snakes too. My husband has loved reptiles since first grade. The first time we looked at this house with a realtor there was a snake skin on the side of the house and my husband jokingly said it was a sign we should buy it. We did and have enjoyed ever since.
