I just moved to South Carolina from California. I was born and raised in Cali my whole life up until now. I was so in love with Cali that I always said I would never ever leave. Cali was, at least I thought, where I was MEANT to be and the best place in the whole US. I have been here in South Carolina or almost a year now and not only would I would NEVER go back to Cali, but I love it here SO MUCH that I am 30 years old and I truly want to stay here for the rest of my life. Not only is SC one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, but the amazing, kind, humble, LOYAL & REAL people that live here is absolutely unbelievable. Literally the complete opposite of California. So, in my opinion, I don't agree with this at all. All the AMAZING positives that SC has, MAJORLY outweigh the negatives that are mentioned here. Just my opinion!

@Amber Rowe -- I agree with your message, I was born/raised in Cali and relocated to Georgia during the year 2000, before then I declared most of my life that I would never ever live in another state, but we all know now that Cali isn't what it once was... Now after living in Georgia for 22 years, I'm ready to move/retire to either South or North Carolina... I've been researching/visiting particular cities but have not decided which area is best for me at this point in time.

Moved here from south New Jersey in 2003. The northern attitude is horrible as well as the crime. We moved to SC and never went back, even to visit. The humidity, not the heat, is rough. The bugs are a pain but we had them in NJ. Taxes are everywhere in every state.COL SC rates #22 actually. And NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS all have the same type of bugs. Hubby lived in FL and his aunt used to kill palmetto bugs with a brick and hair spray. Blessings

I've been in South Carolina for 7years I was about 26 when I came. I was from Virginia and found that I had a hard time excelling with the pace and lack of opportunities in Virginia. I came to South Carolina and quickly realized it is a stable state for someone looking for life experience with little distractions, and a place to make and save money for the next move in your life. There are definitely pros and cons, one con being the closed mindedness of some of the locals, and one pro being the availability of fairly profitable work. Rock Hill, SC born and raised! 😂 this made me laugh. It’s all true 💞 I said the above before watching the whole video. Not a fan of the gates of hell stuff or the fact that you and your family were yelled at (or made to feel like they were yelling ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ at you) I am white and conservative. And any true conservative would not tolerate those actions. It’s unfortunate that people are straying so far from God that they hate over something as small as pigment and culture. Embrace it people! We won’t be fixed until we let love lead us. South Carolina is a very beautiful place. We do have a lot of poverty stricken towns that I would love to see built back up. I bought a house in Chester in 2013. Chester is a dying community, but it has so much potential! It’s really sad to see such a beautiful area deteriorate right before your eyes.

There is no opportunity to advance here unless your an entrepreneur but it's difficult. Also, some towns are still segregated and very racist. Whites don't support black businesses but expect blacks to support their business and in most cases you have no other businesses to go to because they own everything and the law enforcement agencies and judicial system, in my opinion, exploit and criminalize blacks here with allegations only. Something the rich or political figures never get arrested for. And because most blacks live in poverty, which contributes to dysfunction, they can't unite because everyone is in need and don't trust anyone not even their own families or communities even the pastors exploit the poor here. Ya that's why I left SC and went to FL too. I figured nothing to lose. A lot more to do there. And it's not that much more for rent even if it is. But then along the way I found that FL lost its swing state status overnight and they're trying to make it more boring like SC. Like a proposed curfew even in Ybor city. It's getting deep red in FL too like in SC. I had to come back here to find that out though.

Just moved here 6 months ago from NY by way of two years in Florida. We are in farm country and it is beautiful. To add to your bug list, fleas seem to love it here too. Take a look at Long Island’s property taxes, SC is nowhere near that insanity.

Ah yes, LI! I visited my grandma often up in Bellmore, usually during the summer. Pops worked as dispatch at Bellmore Taxi some time ago before moving to Maine. Spring weather's nice, but the traffic congestion is for the birds....Didn't know that bit about the property taxes though.

I am from the Charleston area (Summerville) and I must agree to the healthcare or insurance across the board is way more expensive! However, it was the most wonderful place to lived and the most welcoming and kind people there. They were the most uplifting people that I have ever met. You don’t have to worry about gaining weight from all the delicious food because you will be happy and have plenty of beautiful weather to get out to enjoy the endless activities they have to do all year round. Yes, the heat may be there, but I prefer it to that nasty white four letter word “snow”. South Carolina is a paradise to live in and Summerville is like living in a present day “Mayberry”!

I'm from upstate SC (salem, seneca, and soon to be central) and I am not a fan of the healthcare, the people, the education, the taxes that DON'T fix the roads, or much of anything else. If you want a job you can pick between retail, food, or manufacturing plants. The trailer parks are a nightmare. We are thinking about leaving the state eventually to see what's out there. I went to college in Greenville and loved every minute of it, so don't consider this a blanket statement. We are just fed up with this area.

However, the sales tax on a vehicle is 5% or a limit of $500. In Virginia, you pay the local sales tax rate. If you buy a $50,000 car in VA sales tax is at least $2,500 and you still have a personal property tax every year. In SC, the sales tax limit is still $500.00.

I was raised in Sumter, SC. My son and sister are still there. I left after I graduated high school and never came back (to live) mainly bc of the economic opportunities. I love the heart of the people there but if your not “southern” in speech or thinking they tend not to be open or accepting. If you’re into different cultures and you’re an open minded person, it may not be the state for you. I now reside in Dallas Tx which is home for me and I love it Houston too! There’s a lot of economic opportunity out here and it’s very diverse. I love to visit and kick it in SC but I could never live there again.

As someone who has lived in the lowcountry part of South Carolina for 17 years, I will say, the flooding part in my area is only when a hurricane comes close or skids by. My area, Beaufort, Bluffton, Hardeeville, Okatie, Ridgeland, Hilton Head, is full of bad drivers!! People flying through traffic without a care in the world. So many accidents everyday. Now my area also has alot of shootings! I know alot of areas or states do, but alot of shootings, retaliations, drugs. I would definitely want to watch a video of just the lowcountry, I think alot of people need to know what is going on in my area, alot of people move here.
@samuelglover76852 жыл бұрын
I assume that, in typical Southern "logic", the remedy to increased shootings is -- get even *more* guns out there. Make it *easier* for people to get ever more guns. I'll bet the local (Republican) politicians wrap it up in the American flag and blather about "freedom". Doesn't sound like you're seeing a lot of "freedom", eh?

Hi sir Ashley, I moved to Myrtle Beach South Carolina from the NY area, and listening to your video it was on the button but in a good way, I used to take snowbirds from up north to Myrtle Beach and totally fell in love with Myrtle Beach so eventually I moved down and I haven't been happier since , and you're right you do have to deal with the heat which is not as bad as Florida, bugs still not too bad, the flooding okay that might be somewhat a problem but being here 7 years we've only had to deal with one major flooding at a higher scale due to a hurricane, the food is really good considering there's thousands of restaurants up and down the Grand Strand and yes you can gain a lot of weight here, and one of the most sunny days per year state and timid rain you will enjoy lots of warm and sunny days even in December, in the Grand Strand there is a lot of socializing and drinking but also in a good way, it was hard to adjust from New York City life to a slow South Carolina life but it made me a more relaxing stress-free person, and yes this is a tourist town so you're going to get thousands of outer staters and even people in South Carolina that are really terrible drivers not to mention the congestion, to solve that problem I'd grab full cooler , a chair and a umbrella and enjoy the beach life,
