I switched to Sketches from Nikes at least 15 years ago, and the pair I'm wearing now have ZERO tread, and there is no evidence of falling apart.

I never could wear those, they made my feet stink and just wouldn't hold up

There's this contact cement cobblers use called 'Barge Cement'. I've never used it on shoes, but it might be worth a shot.

That's a great suggestion, thanks!

I avoid NIKE shoes at all cost. The soles fall off in a few months, and the heals are really thinly covered. When the shoes are made in whatever country, they arrive in the United States as unbranded. They go to the plant in Eugene Oregon, where the brand and the swoosh is applied and then they become Nikes. The same thing applies to their clothing line, too.

Do they even still have a plant here in the US ? I didn't know they were even trying to pretend they care about this country.

That's not true at all. The shoe designs are done by Nike and the shoes are made overseas. Where did you hear that?

It's not just Nike's. I have some Asolo GTX boots and the midsole disintegrates the same way. That foam they use sucks.

A few of my NB have done that

My most recent Nike shoes (Winflo 10) had the back heel cushion disintegrate in one spot on the right shoe. I found that weird as I only had it for a year when that happened and have accumulated a bit over 1000km. Upon closer observation the little back tab by the heel that's used for fitting the shoe better while wearing them is where the issue started. The previous Nike pair (don't know what the model name is) though got used longer to the point I've worn out the whole shoe (slippery soles, crushed shoes structure, and outer mesh material falling apart). But the difference is I got to use it for like 4~5 years with thousands of kilometers of me walking and running. In between those two were a pair of shoes from Decathlon where the sole pads just fell off the street as I ran. That was a few months after I got them and it was annoying as they failed when I needed them. Been using Addidas Adizero shoes in the oast 3 months and they've been fine so far and I'll have to use them a lot more to see how they wear out as I have a different Addidas shoes where the whole sole's glue just gave up.

Had same issues on some walking shoes and trainers, I liked them as fit/comfort was spot on so had some exact spares in wardrobe but bottoms start falling to bits once wear them after few years storage. Same happened with some NOS walking boots . Fixed issue to some extent with some left over EPDM roofing contact adhesive and selective use of superglue . Is the modern trend of making sure nothing lasts so you got keep buying regular . Usual manufacture excuses of environmental restriction means can't use better glues but the real truth is they selling short life garbage as it makes the retail game more money. No environmental gain when you throwing short life products in the trash every few years ... sad sad world ...

Stay far away from Colombia hiking shoes. Bought a brand new pair, the ones I've used for 10 plus years. One pair for work every year. They smelled like chemicals off gassing. It gets much worse. Horrible

I would probably get some good glue and squirt em in and try. Been wearing some 40 year old shoes my dad bought bitd and they have been working good.... made in korea... I always try and wear the oldest shoes I have. Yes, back in the day pro cyclists aged silk tubular tires, well, that's what I was told. Not really a thing anymore since they run tubeless and optimal grippy tires when new.

Just avoid Nike at all costs and buy real shoes, n general Nike is one of the worst companies in the world. If you want proper shoes that doesn't fall apart and can be resoled, get a pair of Jim Green Vellies.
