One thing that slipped by during the PPE segment was hearing protection. Pan does know about this as I’ve seen him use hearing protection in his videos. Like he said, it may seem dorky, but it does make a difference. Air dryers, polishers, and vacuums are loud, and we do expose ourselves more than we realize. Great work as usual, Pan!
@PanTheOrganizer

Thanks! And yes you are right, ear protection is also important. When I use my blow dryer to dry my vehicle, I wear ear protection as prolonged exposure to loud noises can affect your hearing long term.

I worked in the auto body repair trade from age 17 - 30 (I'm 56 now) and can attest whole heartedly to the need to protect one's hearing while using industrial tools and machines. I will live with Tinnitus for the rest of my life in large part because of the damage done during my time in that trade :(

Hey Pan great video again. One thing that I would like to add is about microfiber drying towels. I've used 2 towels for about a year and I would use them with turtle wax flex wax and I did notice that the wax will not wash out. Even after several soaking in rags to riches they still don't dry like new. So I recommend to use dedicated towels for toppers or spray waxes and use different towels for when you're not going to use a topper. I hope this makes sense because it didn't dawn on me as to why my rag company towels didn't work anymore even after taking full care
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 11 ай бұрын
Yes that can happen too. Flex Wax is super durable (more than a typical quick detailer) so there is likely a limit to what detergents can do.

I agree with it all, I'm all in with everything. I've also seen some horrible detailing jobs at some dealerships I've worked at. I do national event car shows so of course I must and do step up my detailing game if I wanna compete and win. However, my head exploded from all the technicality, if detailing is a lifestyle then by all means have at it but I also have kids, a wife and a few other hobbies that would suffer if I became more of a detailing guru then I already am.

Another great video Pan! Happy New Year to you and our friends in Canada.. The mistake about the interior glass struck me the most... Can't tell you how many times, I've washed or detailed a car and the interior glass(especially the windshield takes 2-3 times before it's perfect. It speeds things up by taking the extra time/step to "clean" the windshield/glass with a detergent like Dawn or a high alcohol scrub, THEN using a product like Stoner or your favorite brand of glass cleaner.

Learn more with every video, thank you. I plan this year to paint correct my 2018 Hyundai for the first time and am realizing how much work i have ahead... no short cuts. Fwiw on the PPE portion, using gloves all the time can also lead to skin conditions. A good idea for many is to wear thin cotton gloves under the nitrile or latex gloves.

Great videos! Looking for some advice: I'm about to get a new car and I'd like to look after the paint much better than I am now. As someone who lives in an apartment, I'll need to do rinseless washes so I'm looking into getting a lot of the DIY Detail rinseless products alongside their decon cloth. I'm very new to this world, so I'm not super confident that I can properly apply a multi-year ceramic coating so I'm looking at using a multi-month ceramic sealant. What I'd like to understand is what the best practices would be for a rinseless process with a ceramic sealant: what decontamination steps should I follow, how can I do this by keeping costs and number of products down etc? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. For those wondering, I don't have funds to have the car detailed and coated professionally!

Hey Pan, quick question if you see this! I recently 3 step corrected my cars paint and finished with a carnauba based top coat sealant as a final step. I wash my car weekly and always finish with a carnauba based spray wax as a final detail to reinforce the wax job after drying. I want to reapply this carnauba sealant every 3-4 months, I am wondering if I should clay my car prior to applying this wax sealant quarterly? Thanks and happy new year!

Great video! You're right about almost everything in this video. The one item that I mention is protection and gloves. Most of the stuff needed in car care is really not so harmful. Washing the car, claying or applying a carnauba wax, glass cleaners, etc, it's fine to not use gloves. You also don't use gloves when doing the dish washing every day. But when using wax/sealant strippers, iron removers and apply real ceramic coatings, YES then absolutely USE gloves! Hearing protection, that just depends, but high pressure washer, vacuum cleaner and polishing machines are often not loud enoug to really need hearing protection. Machine tools for wood and metal (drill, sawing, sanding, etc) is way louder. Car care? Not so loud.

Great information! I have just finished a proper ceramic spray coating on my neglected car. For the first time in my life I used both iron remover and clay and was stunned over how contaminated the paint was. Since my car has a silver colour it is very forgiving so after the clay I was happy with the finish and applied the coating without polishing. For me the most important thing is the protection, not 100% finish. Thank you from Sweden /Robert

@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 6 ай бұрын
It's not as crucial to do that when you are simply applying a regular wax. It would be crucial to machine polishing old protection off before you apply a ceramic coating, as those need to bond to a virgin clear coat without any interference from a previous protection. But in the case of a wax, you can simply wash your car, dry it, and apply the new wax. For maximum performance and to get the full benefits of the new wax, then perhaps wash the car, use an iron remover to remove brake dust, and clay the paint (if it needs claying), then machine polish if you want to boost gloss and remove defects like swirls and scratches, use a paint prep spray to remove polishing oils, and then apply the wax. That will give you maximum durability and performance. Welcome to my channel. As soon as you do a light polish with a polisher, compound/polish and pad, you will remove the existing protection. So if you're polishing, you're already removing what ever was on the clear coat.

I have an Opti-Fine Paint Guard ceramic coating on my car, so I generally just use Gyeon for the topper. Works well. I would also not always recommend giving a wash to twist loop towels or waffle weaves, it's usually not necessary if you're too lazy. However, all other towels, yes. You must clean them before using them. The lint issue is dreadful and I learned that the hard way when I coated my car.

Excellent video as always Pan! I recently applied Gyeon Pure Evo. Love it but my car doesn't have quite as warm a glow as it would from a traditional wax. I was going to top with Gyeon Q2 Wax to hopefully add some additional gloss and warmth. In Gyeon's instructions, they say that Pure can be topped with Q2 Wax 2 weeks after coating. What are your thoughts with this specific combo/layering? Just curious because of your common mistake #1 - applying a wax on top of a coating. I am expecting product compatibility based Gyeon's instructions.

What is your opinion of doing another full wash and chemical decon after the polishing and before using the IPA and applying the coating? As extra insurance to make sure the contaminants brought up by the polish are fully removed.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 11 ай бұрын
Not necessary. And by washing again, you’d be reintroducing more water so you’d have to make sure you fully dry the vehicle again as you want to make sure you have zero residual water before you apply the coating. Some do wash the car again after polishing, using warm water and a pure shampoo free of any protection or gloss enhancers. Then dry and then IPA wipe. Do some tests and pick what ever method works best for you.

Hey Pan, Would you please help me out with this.... I bought a new car back in September 2023 and brought it straight home only driving 5 miles from the dealership in perfect weather, gave it a good rinse free wash with NOr, then I sealed it with Turtles Wax's Spray "Flex Wax" and have been using Turtle Wax's "Wax and Dry" as a drying aid and have continued to wash with NOr. Did I do this right? Going forward, how should I be caring for the vehicle? Should I be using a topper, if so which one? This is all so confusing..... Also, when I applied the "Flex Wax" I had the worst time with it streaking and on the trim plastics left spots after getting wet( I thought for sure I had ruined the black trim), which I had to keep scrubbing with a damp microfiber towel and follow up with a dry microfiber towel. Is any of what I am saying making any sense, lol... Thank you Pan!
