The "56 DeSoto" adventurer you show is actually a 57 model. Chrysler didn't bring out the "big fins" until that year. Why do you have these cars listed as potential "muscle cars" to be reviewed? That isn't a 50's thing.

It is general consensus that the muscle car era was a 1960s phenomenon when it started. You could argue that some 1950s cars met the general idea, such as the factory supercharged and factory multiple carb Fords, but none of them were billed as "muscle cars".

The BMW Isetta was neither American nor a disaster. It was produced in Germany based on an Italian design. They also made over 160000 of them. It was cheap transportation that was useful for Europeans during a difficult time after WWII. Current prices for them are extremely high compared to what they cost as new. One English site has examples from £15000 to £40000

American? Muscle car? I wish they would show the thumbs down.

I don't know where you got your information. a number of those cars you mention were not even American, they were European economy cars. America was going through an economic boom in the 1950s and fewer people were interested in economy cars. The DeSoto Adventurer is a 1957 with a 0-60 of 7.2 seconds. A stock 1957 Belair 0-60 was 9.1 sec. as was my DeSoto Fireflite 9 sec. to 60. 1957 was one of DeSoto's best sales years of the 50s, unlike GM's cars that, at the time, looked like day-old bread and hit the used car market early. You are right about the poor quality, my DeSoto was a rattletrap trap but I loved it. A friend and I drove the DeSoto out to Valencia where a 50s car show was and I pinned the speedometer to the end, I saw a car up ahead, and in a second that car was in the distance in my mirror. Market-wise, the DeSoto competed with the Olds 98/Mercury Colony Park. In October of 1957, Sputnic was launched and Americans were angry, the economy went down the toilet. Many companies suffered and cut back, some brands lasted into the 1960s but America was changed.

That's not a 1956 Desoto! It's a 1958. My father owned one. It had dual quads and would lay rubber for half a block. This video is BS. Know what you're posting about before you post it.😕

Click pic: SO PREPOSTEROUS! It negates any value you might offer. 'Muscle car' didn't even enter auto lingo 'til early 1960s; that pimped-up '50s Ford-Edsel mishmash is 100% pointless.😡

"muscle cars" Izetta?, King Midget?, Henry J? Hotshot? etc. etc. These are the antithesis of the term "Muscle car". The Desoto at the beginning was a power house with the right engine option ticked off the order sheet and sold very well. The muscle car era begins in the early 60s when companies put the full size cars big blocks into intermediate platforms, many think the Pontiac GTO was 1st. I suggest you do more research before uploading.

Cars like the 1962 Ford 406 could be argued as being among the first, and definitely a '63 Ford 427 intermediate. But the term 'muscle car' has been bastardized for commercial purposes so many times that the average car-guy wannabe will tell you a mid 90s Impala SS was a muscle car.

Do you know what a muscle car is? This video is full of false information. I suggest doing some real research. Muscle cars didn't exist until the 1960's.

Muscle car? How 'bout the '56 Golden Hawk with a 352 Packard? Small(ish) car big engine, hmmmmm. Jus' sayin'. You couldn't a Henry J that wasn't turned into a gasser? They're out there.
