I LOVE defender armor... for running through base game against for whatever reason. Anytime I rec the game I tell people (if it's their first MH game) to explicitly avoid defender weapons and armor because they just won't learn how most of the progression flow and loop goes and it'll just come back to bite them bad in iceborne. For people who've played other MH games though I'll rec the gear because I think the base game already has an exceptional amount of bloat (in the form of special track farming and SO many cutscenes), and honestly in part because I expect them to ditch the gear if they find they disagree with me and want to play through the game normally.

Man all my friends I tried to get to play the game never made it an hour into the game because the early game in mhw is a total slog that bores them to death. Figuring out how armor system works in IB is the same as figuring the system in the og game except that they are already invested in the game by ib and the system makes sense much quicker.

Well my friend was asking for a tip on starting this game and I was planning to recommend this video but this has too much spoilers clips on it. He and most players doesnt want to get spoiled in games so I think It should be better not to put clips about final parts of the game for a video meant for beginners.

Don't forget upgrading mantles and talking to all NPCs to unlock optional quests, as the extra deco slots can allow more versatility with comfort and damage skills (i.e. Heavy Artillery for the Temporal Mantle in Fatalis Hunts).

If you join an SoS DO NOT spam damage on the monster. Make sure to target parts like the tail which are required carves to forge armor from the monster.

4 things begginers ignore too are: 1._New players dont use weapon augments. 2._They dont level up the grimalkynes tribes so they are left out of hunting tools for them and for their palico and that's why you always see their palico with the healing tool 3._They throw flashbangs while someone is mounting a flying monster. The amount of times I thought of leaving the quest bc the sos guy thought it was a good idea to flashbang while im mounting Alatreon is insane

2 things to add for new players : dont rush through the game you will ruin like 70% of your fun so take your time to enjoy the fights try different weapons you dont have to always stick to one , if you think the weapon will be boring in the long term change it and have fun sec: for some damn reason capcom decided to make Alatreon and Fatalis MR24 plsssssss if you happen to just finished the final boss of iceborn dont rush into these two bosses alot of players i saw even left the entire game after they got ass beated so hard by Alatreon hence the controversial that happened back when he got released you need to be at least MR100 farm the guiding lands , augment your weapons and armor level up your charm farm some decos dont rush into them they are late game bosses and werent meant to just be done at low master rank

Im on MR 68, wasn't planning on rushing to Alatreon after Shara, but my friend, who i finally got to play with me, wanted to kill it... I told we needed a elemental weapon, fire or ice base, i had the Shirinking Legiana CB, but wasn't nearly enought on my own, he was stobburn and decided to go with a fucking Defender Greatsword... We didn't even make through the second Escaton, he carted in the begining of the hunt (low defense and a not a single drop of self preservation) and we both carted on escaton... Later, he goes in, all by himself, shoots a SoS flare and get carried away by three other players. Which made me so sick that this fucker did this and leave me behind, that i decided that i would kill this mf alone, without any help, so i hunt Frostfang, made his Charge Blade, goes to Alatreon, and, after 10 tries, i finally killed it. Was a specially stupid thing to do since i work 8 hours per day, from Sunday to Sunday, but dude, when that fucking gecko felt down by my feet, i couldn't help but feel awesome... And then, Fatalis kick my ass and put me in my place 😂

Defender sets are kinda useless in way. I mean, if you're a returning hunter, you should be already familiar with the game anyway. Using regular gears will still get you through the base game quickly if you really want it.

After a hunt or expedition speak to the Chief Ecologist, ive seen a couple of players taking the wrong elemental/status type of weapon to a monster meaning their element bonus is either weak or negated.

I used the Defender set starting off. I am still using the weapon. The Nergagante full set and the helm which gives more honey are my most used equipment at 60 hours. The honey helm has slots I can gem in some gathering gems into. So I can just swap my helm when gathering. I will eventually make a dedicated gathering set when I have more options later like I did in 4 Ultimate. For now this is the best I know of.

I disagree with armor sets because as a newplayer is still challenging to approach some of the monsters. I was a new player who never played monster hunter and armor set helped me a lot with initial monsters. I always try to evade but defender armor helped me not to take a tremendous amounts of damage.Eventually you will understand that you need to upgrade the gear but if you fail badly in the beginning you might wish not to have dipper understanding

Defender armor...using it isnt exactly a bad thing if they want for defensive skills, but its pretty shit due to no offensive abilities, you can use it to get hb3 alone which is the only good skill on the armor, what i recommend to not use is the defender weapon, its fucking overpowered, things died in less than 5 minutes even if you're "decent". However, i do recommend to only touch the armor in high rank. About healing items, i fucking agree, it still baffles me many people still chugging mega pots in end game hunt, you can craft max pot very early in the game, its my number 1 priority whenever i start a new playthrough. 12 max pot, and possibly 20 ancient pots in one hunt, no way you gonna use all of them in one hunt unless you're standing still.

Yeah that's what I've been saying man. I mean health boost and divine blessing are great but that's all it has. No attack boost no agitator no critical eye nothing. Yeah the defender weapons have more sharpness and stats than anything else but once you face nergi i ended up swapping it out

Personally, I think its okay to use Defender Armor through Low Rank, but this is mainly due to skills being mostly worthless in low rank, especially when compared to every other game, whether it was Rise or the games that came before World, but they should definitely start switching the moment they enter high rank. The Defender weapon on the other hand I'm a bit mixed on. On a weapon like DBs, it's often worse than running an elemental weapon despite the blast procs, especially on certain enemies with tougher legs, so I'm a bit more okay with it in those circumstances. On weapon types that want to ignore element such as GS, or weapon types where it's more of a sidegrade until endgame such as IG and CB, I'm heavily against it though....and that's not even getting into the fact that until you reach high rank you're sorta locked into 1 weapon type for the defender weapon. Biggest tip I would recommend is to try *every weapon* and see which weapon feels most natural to play with... *in an actual hunt, not the training grounds.*

As a player who'd never touched a MH game before Iceborn, even low rank was different after noticing Defender were boosted. I had to be way more careful and actually pay attention to what I was doing or I could die. I noticed a lot about the game after going to the regular armors and weapons that I was allowed to ignore - so I suggest for completely new players to just abandon Defender asap

I hate using mega potions, but I am on m/kb and can't figure out the on-the-fly crafting. I have so many resources to craft max potions, just cant figure it out smh. I know it's got to do with F1 - F4 menu but can't get it to work. Honestly, that is the worst thing about this game is all the damn buttons you have to press to accomplish a simple task. Why no direct key binds for consumables is beyond me. Hell, I'm an old man and trying to hold my alt or control key (while running away from a monster) to pull up the "radial menu" and heal, is just not as easy as you think it would be. And if I use my F1 key I basically have to take my fingers off of the direction keys, so I am a scroller...constantly scrolling through my items looking for shit. Worst part of the game hands down

You can craft everything up to immunizers. Put the immunizers and kelbi horns into your inventory, then add ancient potion (not the craft) to your radial menu. Now when you double tap the item in your radial menu, you'll craft one then use it. Hope it helps :)

@@BrightshadeVT Well, thanks for explaining. I actually took some more time earlier today and figured out how to set on-the-fly crafting to my F3. I overlooked the tab for crafting when binding things to the menu. But you are saying I can make it simpler so that I use one and craft one thus never needing to pull up the F3 crafting bar? Just by double-tapping the button and of course having the ingredients in my inventory?

@@gregm.stanley8221 yep! just put the item and not the craft into your (EDIT: radial menu), it will craft one automatically for you if you have the ingredients on hand (I do it with my smoke bombs in Fatalis runs)

Yeah Safi and Extremoth are meant to be fought with a team. Same with Kulve, though she is very much possible solo. Fatty is possible solo but I know people who have been playing the game for years and still haven't actually killed him, despite having full armor and an upgraded weapon from the amount of times they've ran him.

🤣this was a near full damage scripted run i did with some friends and some of them are speedrunners a few of my older videos dive into the different things we did to make the fight look easy. check the smoke bomb and 10+ fatalis kills/hr video :)

Way to make a video for total beginners, while completely spoiling the very last monster you fight in the game. The hardest fight, the one every player grinds their ass and tries to improve for. You spoiled that for people who haven't even been to High Rank yet. 🤦‍♂
