I had a pair of Phillips BCH and traded them in for the Shokz. I didn't like the bulky build of them. Shokz open run doesn't bother me with the charger cable ordered an extra one and I'm good to go. Sound wasn't bad on Phillips but that bass mode was just vibration to me. The music I like...rock music sounds good in the Shokz, and I felt it much superior to the Phillips in general. Nice review thank you!

I personally prefer the magnetic charging cables, as they allow for a higher level of water resistance. Good to know that there are some headphones on the market which don't require it!

@davidruiz7669 Жыл бұрын
You can buy a magnetic to usb-c adapter.
@GremlinSciences Жыл бұрын
You can, but it won't offer the same level of waterproofing.@@davidruiz7669 Magnetic charging allows for the entire body of the device to be _completely_ sealed and can even have full fault prevention which stops faults from occurring, while USB-C ports require an opening in the device which is very difficult to seal and only have fault protection which prevents a fault in the charging port from causing damage. Basically, you can throw most devices with magnetic charging in the water and they'll be just fine, you can even go swimming with them, but a USB-C device with a magnetic charging adapter can get waterlogged and short internally with just a bad splash
@pjaypender1009 Жыл бұрын
Yup. And Shokz OpenRun AND OpenRun Pro, those chargers are available all over and cheap. I own an OpenRun and an OpenRun Pro and I have 6 or 7 charging cables now. I keep one in my backpack, on my nightstand, in my office...

One major plus to magnetic/contact charging is the gold plating, if it's more than decent enough quality they have anti corrosive properties.

Shokz/Aftershokz on their older models had a MicroUSB charger with a flap to make it more water resistant. They went with a proprietary magnetic charge cable and I thought great another cable to carry. After having them for awhile, I really do like the magnetic connector. I believe it has better waterproofing and you don't have to deal with the flap.

You mentioned shokz having a downside about the charger. They do come with 2 but to put it into perspective I’ve had my set of aeropex by aftershokz for about 3 years now. I wear them literally every single day and my first charger is still working absolutely fine. When I first got them they would last about 16 hours with constant use. Now I only get about 12 hours with literal constant use. If for no other reason the battery life is the biggest reason to purchase these. My wife has the cheaper version of my headphones by the same company and she has a very similar battery life experience to mine. And hers are about 4 months older than mine. I still haven’t tried other brands but I don’t think I need to. I’m happy with these things.

I traded in a pair of Shokz openrun pro for openrun, because of the difference in ip rating. OpenRun Pro is IP55, about 1.5 hours in a 3 hour ride my sweat got into the driver and badly distrotrted the sound. One thing to consider, are you going to use your headset to actually talk on your phone? Shokz has a version with a short boom mic and while it may not seem like it would make a lot of difference, it does. Especially if you are using these in a business environment, you're better off with the boom mic. If you just listen and don't use them to talk do what makes you happy. My opinion on the sound is that any of these are not sound quality headsets and it seems to me (without trying them) the extra bass would bother me. Even the Shokz tend to vibrate enough on heavy bass that it more or less "tickles" my neck. I don't think I'd care for even more vibration. I'll deal with the proprietary charge cable for the additional call quality to the other party.
@MikeTrieuАй бұрын
Looks like Shokz listened to feedback like this because they introduced USB-C charging to the OpenRun Pro 2 line. Also, the DualPitch is a game-changer. No more itchy ear canal at higher volume levels due to bass vibrations!

The first set I bought was the Shokz. Although I have bought several other cheaper Chinese brands since; I still like them the best. At first, I thought the magnetic charger was a disadvantage. But, I have grown to prefer it over a c usb. I use the cheaper sets when I am outside and I feel I could lose the Shokz. And, I did lose one when I was out and about with it around my neck. I actually broke my first Shokz when I fell asleep and moved my head to a position that broke the band. Replacing a $50 unit is less painful than replacing a $200 unit. Still there is a cost in frustration when I can not pause the set when I am outside and someone comes up to have a conversation.

One of the the numerous compromises I've been facing, is acceptance of proprietary cables. I'm less annoyed if the headset is truly swimwear.. Personally I still prefer Shokz. Most of these problems are preferences and depend on the person. I work 12-14 hour days and do a lot of driving and walking. I also am required to wear a bump cap and have glasses. Usually I put my Shokz on in the morning and forget that I'm wearing them. I also have a small head and Shokz is the only brand that fits. Others have too much hanging off the back of my head and feel more uncomfortable. Sound quality is decently good despite being bone conduction. That's another problem with almost all bone conduction brands. Almost none of them are actually bone conduction. They usually have tiny speakers directed toward your ears. Bone conduction headphones should not be heard by surrounding people. That just makes them speakers that can cover up sounds from your environment. Shokz are, which means you can put in ear plugs if needed. I do this for factories and loud environments and it makes the Shokz even better.

My family have a Shokz Openrun, a Philips 6606, and a Wissonly Hi Runner. Share a little of my experience SHOKZ is undoubtedly excellent in terms of sound quality, wearing comfort, and battery capacity, but unfortunately, the progress of SHOKZ in the past two years has been limited. Many new brands surpass it in terms of functionality and performance. Philips' products are very user-friendly, and I am deeply impressed by the night light features and app controls of Philips 6606. But its other performance is relatively average, such as low waterproof level, single playback mode, etc In terms of sound quality, it is difficult to compare the sound quality of bone conduction headphones with that of common earphones, but the sound quality of bone conduction headphones with a price higher than 50 dollars is good. There is not much difference in sound quality between Shokz and Philips, and I can accept both. The main reason for buying the Wissonly Hi Runner is because I want to use it while swimming. It has a waterproof grade of IPX8 and has an MP3 mode specifically designed for swimming (with 32G built-in storage), which meets my requirements. In terms of sound quality, it is similar to the other two products.This product has been in use for several months and has been working well so far

If we are talking about sound quality, bone conduction headphones can't compare to in ear headphones. I only use bone conductive headphones for swimming, and because they have to be sealed you need a proprietary cable for charging and file transfer.. having a usb socket on bone conducting headphones defeats the purpose of why these even exist. You can get 10x better sound from 20$ earbuds and if you want to hear your surroundings you can buy earbuds with pass through and they will still be cheaper than bone conducting headphones.

I tried on shokz today and found they didn’t fit my head. I had to push the “speaker” to my temple for quality sound. If they are true bone conducting, shouldn’t they produce sound behind the ear as well?

Awesome video, what is that sign that's displaying your KZbin handle? It seems really cool
@Aesthetic_Al Жыл бұрын
Thanks bro. It's from Tidbyt I got it for my bday. It displays my KZbin handle or Strava stats. You can link it to multiple apps. shorturl.at/czCV7

I have a question; I have had about 7 pairs of Plantronics and now the after shokz; they all are effecting my hearing. Any suggestions?

I know it’s a year later, so this may have already been mentioned. Shokz has a USB C charge port.

Anyone have a tip to clean the little holes out? I wipe them down at the end of the day, but it just slowly builds up. It's frustrating.

I'm really interested in ones where my voice is clear in a phone call. Please - thanks! Gracias 🎉

I'm new at this. So you don't download the music to the earphones and you still need to run with your iphone. Right?
@Aesthetic_Al Жыл бұрын
Correct that it doesn’t store any music. You would connect to a mobile phone or a watch. I pair to my Garmin all the time.

You do have play pause sir if you press the left side on the flat part it's a button. This will pause which is a reason I purchased them. The problem I'm having is while listening to my music when I receive a call they can't hear me which is really annoying 😢 I don't want to open a app to change the setting so they can hear me. Any resolution for me ?.

I'm sorry, but I find it hard to justify . the sound quality of bone conductors in general is inferior no matter what you do . paying 100$ will result in the same sound quality of no-brand 20-40$ bone conducting headphones.I tested it and was surprised. Going underwater a USB-C connector becomes a real downside . the magnetic 4 pin cable is the way to keep the headphones IP68 waterproof. many Chinese brands today make good bone conducting headphones. not the crap it used to be.

how do the bone conducting ones compare to anything regular? is the sound quality just worse? is it possible that the best ever sounding bone conducting headphones could completely replace some avarage bluetooth earbuds?

Good luck with the marathon dude ! One question. For me the native charger is not a deal breaker so wich headphones would you recomended? Is there really a diference between a generic brand or something like shock? I want to buy me first and only pair and want the most out of it.
@Aesthetic_Al Жыл бұрын
Much appreciated Oswaldo! if the charger isn't a deal breaker I have 4 bone conducting headphones (Shokz OpenRun, OpenRun Pro, Klatree and now the Phillips) I can barely notice a difference on any of them (from comfort to audio) but the Phillips because of the tad increase in size its much louder, and its USB C. All of them are ip67, same 9, 10 hour battery life. At this point I would go by design. I do like the Shokz open run color selection, but I am using the Phillips over the 4 of them. Hope this helps.

The mic on these are actually pretty good. They work and sound the same way a premium earbud would. Ive made calls plenty of times while running and cycling. Moving forward ill do mic test in each of these.
