I Was at York Barbell last week. I was speaking to one of their product research guys. They are going to start coming out with new products next year to compete with Rogue ,Rep, and Titan. They are also going to bring back the old school round head dumbbells for a limited time. Very cool looking.

5:32 Hang on to that 9.00 pounder, that's 1/5 of a 45! For the days you want to bench 2.2 plates. :) The 2.95 pound plate isn't bad either. 2 of those and a 20kg bar makes 50.0 pounds, right proper, right proper. Now you just have to find mates for those two odd plates. :p

@@vintageweightspgh I got more! Imagine 20 pairs of plates. Let's say they weigh 10 units each per pair. And you have another 20 pairs of plates that weigh 11 units. So far so good. Now use these weights on your bar, what kind of combinations do you get? Well, you can add 10, or also 11. What about 2 pairs? 20, 22 but also one of each for 21. Similar for 30 through 33, 40 through 44, all the way up to 80 to 88. 90 through 99, that covers all 10 in the decade finally! 89 was left out. With 20 pairs, 200 units is possible with all 10s and 220 is possible with all 11s. Now to let the cat out of the bag. 10 units isn't 10 units, it's 0.5lb (2*0.25lb). 11 units isn't really 0.55lb, but close enough at 0.25kg (2*0.125kg). 1 unit is 0.05lb, the resolution of your scale, 20 units to the pound. So after 90 units / 4.5lb, I can add any 0.05lb increment I want. It's easy to add 0.5lb or 0.55lb/0.25kg, but what about 0.1lb? You borrow! 150.1lb is 150+0.1 or 145 + 5.1lb or times 20 102 units (100 units is 5.0lb). That's easy enough. 22 units in kg (0.5kg, 2*0.25kg) plus 80 units in pounds (4.0 pounds, 1+0.75+0.25 in a standard microplate set), load 4.0lb with 0.5kg on top of 145 to get 150.1lb. What if I wanted just 9.45lb on the bar? 5.0+4.45 is 100+89 units, can't make 89 directly! I can make 189 with 99+90. So add 9*0.25kg or 2.25kg and 4.5lb to the bar, simple! I do like the unholy union of pound and kilo plates and them ending in even better pound resolution. But also in kg it comes out that a unit is 1/44 kg. Two things metric users love, fractions and not counting by 10s, ha!

You should make a vintage and non vintage gear cross reference on your web site. Kinda like they do with vintage tools. Alot of my old tools I can look at the style and the makers mark stamp and narrow it down to 20 yrs and a factory where it was made.

In my mind, vintage plates should be mounted on the wall as inspiration and a tribute to the history of the sport - like an old baseball or hockey jersey.
@vintageweightspgh

Haha. I’m sure some people do that, and I have wall mounted storage posts. But I think weights are meant to be lifted. So everything in my gym goes on the bar.

Despite not being deep dish the Weider plates are still really cool and collectible in my opinion because it is and was the biggest name associated with bodybuilding especially in the 80's and there is a lot of history there.

Does anyone know where the Nautilus plates were made? I know Bowflex bought them out long ago but he plates ive seen dont have any country markings on them. For new plates what is bigguns like??

I don’t know for sure, but I’d guess Nautilus were made overseas. As for Biggins plates, that’s not a modern plate I endorse. 😂 Some of my favorite modern plates are Strength Co and Le Master. I have both in my gym and use them regularly. I just brought home some Mayhem deep dish to try out and I’ll ah w a video sooner or later about them.

Do you think a set of vintage ivankos are worth picking up? If so how much do you think is a fair price for a set 2.5 - 45's?
@vintageweightspgh
@vintageweightspgh Жыл бұрын
There are different types of Ivankos. The unbranded, machined, and chrome are most sought after. As for price, it really depends on which type and your local used market. If you have the listing or pics, email me at VintageWeightsPGH@gmail.com and I'll do my best to help.

not deep dish but they are accurate to the lbs are 1980 international barbell DP plates worth anything? I have seen footage of 1980s powerlifting meets using the exact same plates that I have.

To the best of my knowledge they aren’t worth too much more than other Olympic plates you’d find on the used market. I did a video about them a while back. However, I personally think DP had an important role in the development of the home gym due to their various products.

It's an Accutek heavy duty. About 40 bucks on Amazon. I love it. I have a link on my website: www.VintageWeightsPGH.com Just make sure to use on a firm surface. On normal stall mats, weights will fluctuate. I either use it on the firm dimpled mats in the front of my gym or on concrete (garage or patio).
