AVOID These Guys in Luxor, Egypt! I loved my entire time in Egypt, but for some reason during my time in Luxor I ran into so many touts, that it really made my entire trip there feel like it was never going to end. I was constantly followed and no matter how many times I said No, they wouldn't take no for an answer. I really hope this changes, but sadly I don't think it will.

Let's hope that one day they actually do something about the touts or else I agree people will in fact stop coming to Egypt sadly. For all you saying "why are you so kind to them".... I'm not, just smart. I'm not about to talk 💩 to someone, in their own country, by myself, where I don't even know the language... just think about how fast your life can change anywhere like that if you happen to do it to the wrong person... move smart. 🙏🏻

The poverty has done this to them..people in this area have large families. Food is expensive..so is rent..people are fighting to survive. My bro wemt in 2007..he experienced none of this. Good to have some compassion and understanding. Ruling elite doesnt care..neither about the tourists or the poor.

Chris: Here are my tips for dealing with the touts. 1) Wear a headset and pretend you are on a call. 2) Speak to the tout in a language they do not know. I usually speak Thai in the middle east. 3) This is my favorite. Ask to borrow some money from them. I do have to remind myself how deep the poverty is for people to be so insistent. I am loving your Egypt series Chris!

I lost my shit on a few of the merchants and on one buggy driver. They love to scam! I read up on Egypt on how to keep them from harassing you and some of the pointers actually worked. It is also helpful if you learn a few Arabic phrases how to tell them politely to leave you alone and if it doesn't work, how to really tell them off and they WILL leave you alone.

As an Egyptian-born Canadian, I feel absolutely ashamed to see these individuals representing Egypt and its nation. It is utterly preposterous that these local vendors assume every tourist is an naive newcomer to the country with sly smiles exploiting tourists’ lack of knowledge about local prices and taking advantage of any opportunity to make a profit through cunning tactics employed by some of them. These behavior should not be tolerated in this country. However, I strongly believe that Egypt is an extraordinary country with a rich culture, awe-inspiring history, and delightful weather. Chris, I would like to express my gratitude for your kind and patient.

The comportment of tourists is often responsible of that. I come as possible to Egypt from 1980, of course it changed a lot, and there are super basterds here anbd there, but globally it can be a very nice country...

Very much respect for your patience. During a visit to Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, the keeper of the tombs made us jump over some fence to take a picture of us in the tomb, and then he asked for money for it, and when some tourists came by, he pretended to yell at us for breaking the rules. They are unbelievable. I come from Serbia, which is not a much richer country than Egypt, we are not the rich West... It's funny to me.

I know it may seem rude given the fact these are economically depressed regions of the world. But harassing tourist when tourism is a major source of revenue is counterproductive. I generally say “no thanks” “no” and then ignore them - sadly. Starting up a conversation with a “hello” generally is construed as an invitation to solicit relentlessly. Egypt looks beautiful and is on list of places to go. On hold for now because of the political trouble in the region.

First, Chris, you are very patient, congratulations! Egypt can be a real nice experience, depending on where you go and how you behave. It use to be agreable in the pure local places, in remote areas where the tourists never go. But of course it can take time to be accepted and it doesn't fit with a tourist program. taking enough time is the key. Bettrer go slowly and taste one area, and come back later as possible to see other places. The real backpackers life is disappearing, the "bourgeois" take all the place... Remember cameras and photos non stop is not ageable for people in most countries. Better stay simple, it will open all the doors. In fact it kills the real contact. I tell you that, I travelled all my life with low budget.

Even speaking to them at all just emboldens them, let alone encouraging them more by being polite and saying "thank you" incessantly! Chris will be learning before the end of his visit that such a response just does not work and is counter-productive! We have all fallen into this trap when first visiting a country like Egypt. I have to admit to cringing when watching Chris dealing with the photographer and the stallholder for example... Sorry! I have visited Egypt many times and I have local friends in Luxor. They agree with me that tourists will only buy what they want to buy - they will not be brow-beaten into submission by touts such as the caleche drivers. (Horse-drawn carriages here are known universally as caleches). By the way, the "Reckless" top was possibly tempting fate?!! 😀

A quick sharp “NO!”..from the first encounter might be good, and “No!!-I am working!” Not sure but I would be curious if it would work. I’m also curious if dressing like a local would help you avoid standing out and being harassed.??👍🏽

I travelled to Egypt in 2007. Never experienced this sort of harassment and always wanted to go back but after watching this video I don’t ever want to go back. Lots of people complaining about Egypt being so scammy

Egypt is absolute beautiful gem of a country. The Egyptian local are absolutely lovely. The big issue is the scammers gives the country a very bad name which is sad, and i notice these people don't listen.

I've been watching the series, and I have to say, I am definitely not sold on Egypt. I know Chris mentioned that he was giving it a shot, but this is the most I have seen Chris harassed in a series of videos.

WHY...would you do that Chris?? You are trying to be so nice and correct...that got you, because you dont want to be disrespectful or show these places in a negative light. You should have walked away & take your own pictures. Please & thank you is not enough at times. You are walking around making videos, you can take your own pictures. Stop trying to be nice.

Because I try to not be an ahole to people in their own countries, but some people make it damn near impossible. Plus it wouldn't show the reality of the place if I did, this lets others who have never traveled feel the energy of the place. 🙏🏻

Theres no reason to be polite to those carriage dudes. After one clear NO you just have to ignore them, otherwise they will never stop to harass you. Those few guys amongst thousands of very nice egyptians are pros in ruining trips for tourists and that´s what stays in the mind.

As an ASD person who desperately wants to travel to Egypt, i've dreamed of it for 20 years - these guys would Ruin my day and I'd just end up staying in my hotel/motel room. I know they're trying to make a living, but I can only say no so many times, and the Yelling out to me would test my chill to the limit. I know dressing in a certain way flags you as a tourist, as does having a camera out or obviously filming. I'd likely have to wear ANC headphones/earbuds. My BF is Egyptian, I'd love to see where he grew up and meet his family etc. So I'd at least have him as a "guide" and he can tell people to go away lol.

Chris one thing i would advise you on is get one of those Jalabayas. It's the robe that the men are wearing casually. Get a high quality one. Super comfortable man. Egyptian cotton. Lay off the cheap mass produced ancient Egyptian relics lol.
