Watched a good number of your videos. Thank you .. At 74 I've lost 35# in 6 months via a low carb diet with 20 more to go. My activity level is high. Sugar/processed carbs are my undoing. As a long term sober guy I know "one's to many and a 1000 is not enough." This applies to having a bit of cake or slice of pie. My polite response to an incistant host would be no thank you I'm prediabetic.. That would be close to the truth. 😃 🍎 for teacher.

I can really relate when it comes to tip 3 about not sharing my goal. When I was having problems with my blood pressure, and on the verge of becoming a type 2 diabetic, I knew I had to do something. I was 101kg, and I only had an initial goal of losing 10kg. I wanted to keep it to myself, so I told no one. I just kept watching videos about Keto and Intermittent fasting from people like yourself Dr Becky, Dr Fung and Dr Ekberg. And I started probably in the worst time period in November just before Christmas. I lost the 10 kgs by the end of January and I was going to stop.... But thought why not keep going? By May, I shed another 20kg and now sit at about 71kg. I haven't been this weight since I was a teenager. My family and friends kept asking whether I was losing weight but I kept denying it. By the time I hit May it was pretty hard to deny. Doing Keto and Fasting has been the biggest change in my life in the last 10 years. Ive done 16:8, 20:4, Omad, 36, 48, 72 hour fasts. I pretty much chop and change my fasts as I see fit. Im healthier, fitter, and now I am more motivated to pursue other goals. Fasting and Keto has really been a game changer for me.

I am an RN and did a lot of research prior to starting keto since it goes against what I was taught in college. (And what I have taught patients for over 40 years). I have been keto on for over 5 years, and am down 85 lbs. I have never cheated because I was a full blown carb addict and figure I am one step away from returning to where I was; pre diabetic and morbidly obese. At 64 I am now far healthier, and feel better, then I did in my 40’s. When I am at carb functions, I just say no thank you if offered something I don’t eat. If someone person persists I tell them I am a carb addict and I have given up sugar. I do have friends in the medical profession who have told me how dangerous this way of eating is (due to the higher fat content of keto). I just ignore them. To me, 3/4 of my success in eating this way was due to my mindset that I am eating this way for life and am not going to cheat myself out of my good health.

Whenever I stray from the center of my diet road, I try to simply get back to Dr. Becky's 1-2-3 program...it's simple and it works. I try to do low-carb most of the time because I hate the insulin rushes that occur when (esp. sugar) carbs get too high. Staying under 50 grams works for me. With 4 oz meat portions, healthy fats, veggies, and low-carb fruits...1-2-3 is a cinch, it works, and it's NOT my diet...it's the way I have chosen to live. I have no sugar, pasta, or other starches in my fridge or pantry...if they aren't there, I can't eat them. When the only foods I store are "safe" ... things go best.

At 55 and postmenopausal, I am down 5# ( hard fought) on day 17. Doing the 16/8 intermittent fasting. It becomes a game after a while, how long can you go before you need to eat. Sometimes adding an extra 15 minutes makes a difference in your weight loss. It's also very important to include some high intensity exercises and some weight lifting. Need to switch it up to keep your body guessing. Best wishes to everyone on your weight loss journeys!

Dr. Becky, my husband and I have been doing keto for a little over a week. I am 56, he is 60. I am having great results and have no appetite or cravings. He is struggling with little to no weight loss and claims he is hungry all day long. We are basically eating the same things. He eats more of it of course. Any idea why it is not working for him? Maybe just not enough time? He has skin tags so we suspect he is insulin resistant. Thanks for your help. Love your channel and two fit docs as well!

Every Tuesday, the crew I work with orders tacos for Taco Tuesday. They always ask if I want to order, I always say no. The manipulation of my order to meet my low carb needs, would undoubtedly be messed up on the restaurant end, so I always say no. They keep asking, and keep saying, “Just this one time won’t hurt”. I keep saying no. They also call down to me saying there are donuts in the break room if I want one. I work by myself in another part of our plant so it’s easier for me to just say “Ok” and then not go up and grab a donut. Temptations are always going to be there, we have to make the decision and the effort to just say no.

Hi Dr. Becky. A strange thing is going on with me. I started a Keto diet 2 years ago. I was 60 lbs. Overweight and my blood pressure was through the roof. I had great success. I never actually got to my GW of 140lbs but I did lose 50lbs. I lowered my BP, started walking and felt fantastic. I maintained that for a while then 6 months ago I took a detour and gained 30 of those pounds back. A few days ago I decided to get control of my life and do what works. Unfortunately this odd phenomenon is plaguing me. I do great during the day but I get up in the middle of the night and binge eat. I'm a little worried that I won't be able to get this under control.

That was a nice video. I know if I go out with a certain family group member to a restaurant. It might end up being tough to be polite and say no. I'm oriental and it could be easier if one of their family member that I know is diabetic like me to make things easier. I understand the challenge now. It isn't all about the weight loss. Keeping the hunger low and watching out for those hidden sugars. White rice is risky of many forms in a chinese restaurant. Plus certain deserts and fruits. My last meal after dinner. No snacking! Tough! Water. I look skinny and chinese families will want me to bulk up again. Ideal weight. 5 foot 3 inches / 114 pound male.

Goodness, I think I went through all of these over the last three years. STOP eating 3 hrs before bed works very well for me. I've also found I need to eat at 3 hrs before bed, if I eat OMAD at noon I will sleep very well but wake up at 2am. FAT was critical. While transitioning to fasting I would "fat fast", allow myself fat during fasting if I was hungry. Over time, of course, I stopped needing it. I WAS so excited I told everyone what I was doing, and I think that was a mistake. SINCE I gave up sugar completely, it was pretty easy for others to understand, I could just say "No thanks, I don't eat any sugar." My go to alternate is coffee. I love coffee and I can always have it even if fasting, and coffee fits well with eating.

A strategy for those closest to me is to say something about how my glucose levels have improved so much because I have decided not to eat sugar. Gotta try to avoid the dreaded "D-2". In more general social settings I try to say how full I am when offered sweets or carbs. I then will reach or ask for another offering that works well for me..."That cold broccoli salad was great, can I have some more instead?"

Very low calories etc..However, even after dropping the weight and living a semi active life….Latin dancing, walking etc. my cholesterol is high. How do you handle family members who take offense if you politely turn down innumerable offerings of sweets? Since sugar is a socially acceptable addiction, this area is an emotional minefield in some families. Trying to esteem these members in ways that don't have anything to do with food has met limited success.

For me, if I get offered something like a piece of cake or cookie, I just respectfully decline. If they ask why, I just explain I'm Type 2 and it spikes my blood sugar. Most of my family and friends already know this though, so I don't need to explain it as much anymore.
@wseto092 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised for what I did. There's suppose to be a calorie count total for the day. I don't do that. Know what I can eat and portion size it. Type 2 and been using my glucose monitor. Expensive. But the pills if I keep taking them will out shoot the monitor cost easily. I'm right now 1 of the very expensive pill gone and so has another. Now on metformin and my family doctor is excited on my last ha1c major blood test result and is encouraging to keep going. Didn't tell my family doctor I'm on a low carb diet. Gentle 1970's fasting. 3 major meals a day. Not much snacking. Definitely 2 small cups of coffee stevia and cream every day. will be hoping to have no metformin.
