When I run across videos about IR its always a crap shoot as to the actual advice. This one was good. Accurate. THANKS! I loved useing a CGM to help me understand how my dietary choices affect blood glucose levels. But the down side was the tech itself is unreliable. The sensors always craped out early, out of 30 days worth of sensors, I only collected 18 days of data using the Freestyle II sensors, apparently a Canadian issue. Thats a monetary issue I suppose but still an issue all the same. Fortunately, I had enough data to confirm I cannot eat Carbs of any kind if I want to reverse my IR and metabolic fatty liver disease. Once I dropped the Carbs, the CGM kinda became redundant, maybe even a pain in the butt because it would wake me up at 3 am to tell me my BG had dropped below 4. Oddly when that happened it still didnt flag those low events in the log. So yeah, a CGM is a useful tool, but long term, useless if you fix your diet. At that point it just sort of provides some positive reinforcement. I recommend using one, at least at the start of your recovery to educate your self about the choices you make about your food without stabbing yourself 24 times a day. But be aware it can be a financial burden that might be better spent on better quality foods and suppliments once you have figured out your glucose profile.

I lost 40 lbs in 4 months on a low carb whole food diet with 20-30kms of biking a day. I plateau'd at 200 so tried keto for 2 weeks, lost 6 more lbs...... BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD it was hard to eat! I missed my apple a day, missed my 1/4 cup of oatmeal, missed my 1 slice of ezekiel bread a day, missed alot of things so going back to low carb and am NOT going to worry about my weight!

I know you consider full-fat yoghurt a healthier choice than low fat yoghurt. But for those of us with high cholesterol, what would you say about no-sugar-added low-fat yoghurt with seeds and nuts added as healthy fats?

I went 10 days last year with no sugar. Took all the willpower I had. I gained 2 pounds, was monotone, and had no energy. Finally caved in. A month and a half ago I tried again. I quit all sugar and made it 18 days this time. I did not even loose 1/2 a pound. I don’t drink coffee, smoke, drink alcohol, etc etc. and I have a ton of food allergies so I don’t have a lot to lean on when I cut sugar. I can eat very healthy and never feel satisfied or satiated which leads me craving sugar and so I caved again after 18 days. I have zero idea how to get past this when my body refuses to use fat for fuel instead of sugar.

I did this diet before and i lost 50 pounds in 4 months. I felt fabulous. My eye sight improved so much i no longer needed glasses to drive my car. The eye doctor even asked me what i had done health wise. I answered i quit sugar and bad carbs. I ate meat and a little vegtables. I drank protein powder shakes made with water. I took acai one shot a day. I had a mulit vitamin and a calcium supplement daily. I walked for 15 mins a day. I ate something smal every 2 to 3 hours. An egg , protein shake chicken breast with a small salad no salad dressing. Just vinigar. I was never hungry no cravings and loads of energy. It was sensational.

I'm confused, does IF mean fasting every day for either 12 or 16 hours? If that is the case is it not just Time Restricted Eating?

Thanks, Dr. Becky. I ID'd myself as a 'nervous' eater, as I was realizing how an obese yo-yo eater I became. One day it dawned on me. That was 40+ kg ago. Now I can go a good amount of time w/o even wanting a tsp of sugar in my coffee. Crumb, I've even been drinking my coffee black!! I just don't buy off the middle isles in the grocery store any longer, except canned fish, like sardines etc. I love pasta, but wince when I measure a single serving to the boiling water. Anything sugar loaded like a Caravan or O'Henry bar (which I loved) are almost as repulsive as cigarette smoke now. It's been a battle. (munchy craving....? take a tbsp of Kimchi... that'll stop me, and gives me a good does of probiotics.)

Thanks Dr. Becky. I found a great Barrista whole fat milk, which is 3.8% milk fat. I worked on a century dairy farm as young adult and we got our daily milk right from the cooler after milking. This 3.8% Barrista whole milk reminds me of it.

This is a great way to get introduced to carnivore. I disagree though that there are carnivore police. Many people who follow the carnivore diet for years eat coffee, use seasonings, sometimes eat pickles, etc. The “diet” is highly individual based in what people can tolerate.

What are you talking about? Keto is working great for me! I've been on the keto diet since BEFORE it became popular and was being used for epileptic patients. I did not have epilepsy, but I heard that it could help me lose weight. So I hopped on board and lost 80 pounds the first years and as the months went by, I lost more and more of my HEALTH PROBLEMS!! I was very excited to say the least. Today, many years later, I am 74 years old and still on the keto diet. People tell me I look 50 years old. I can still turn several cartwheels in a row and beat my own grandchildren in a swimming race across the pool in the summertime... an event that we engage in every summer. I am never ill at all and no, it's not that I have "good genes," My entire family get sick all the time, but I do not. You'd think by now they would have been curious enough to try the keto diet, but no... sadly.

Dr Becky your videos are the easiest to comprehend. I’ve been waiting for about a year now on where I should get my levels from and I actually ordered just now. I couldn’t find a link on your description, but when I did order the levels, it asked me where did I hear about levels and I gave them your name. Hopefully that helps you.
