Avoid These Study Mistakes: How you can meet the Australian Study Requirement

If you are claiming points for study in Australia it is crucial that you meet what is called the Australian Study Requirement (ASR). If you do not meet the ASR then your application for the 189, 190, or 491 visas may be refused because you did not reach the points level claimed on your Expression Of Interest (EOI). Also, the ASR is a basic requirement of the 485 visa so it is crucial you get it right.

I completed my Master's degree in 2011 in Adelaide Uni and it was for 18 months only, tried to study another master in UTAS to meet the ASR but got my study visa rejected. I deliberately applied for 2 years Masters because I thought 6 months course will got visa rejection, and even that did not work. It was a big mistake, I can claim no points , thanks for the video AILS!

Hi, I have a question. What if I finished my full 2-year study on a bridging visa with unlimited study rights? Will i be able to claim the 5 points? According to what I can find in the description on the DHA website and MIGRATION REGULATIONS 1994 - REG 1.15F, there is not a single word state that has to be a student visa in terms of claiming 5 points for PR

You didn’t mention when that 16 months physically present in Au will start counting. Will it be on your arrival in Au as evidenced by your flight boarding pass? Will the counting end on the course completion date indicated in your confirmation of enrolment given that you still have about a couple of months remaining on your visa after that? This is important for students who came in late to start their courses because of the pandemic or border closures.

Online study can be counted towards the ASR if holding a student visa whilst the study is being undertaken for the purposes of being allowed to apply for the 485 visa. Not sure how the department will be flexible on this issue. Thanks for watching

Study whilst outside Australia will not count towards meeting the Australian study requirement for points at the moment. They would have to change the law to allow that to happen. Thanks for watching

Hi, I have a doubt I'm have a trimester system and got 2 credits exemptions for prior learning. If I take 3 units each trimester I'll have 4 subjects remaining in the 5th Trimester and.
