I had a great moment this week Infinite Timereaver dropped on my 12900KF 7900XTX 48gb DDR5 build. I also rebuilt my 12700KF 3060 rig with the same Asus TUF Wifi Plus Z690 board (from my 12900KF build, ordered another when it was on sale) and it works great with the TG Delta 32gb kit of DDR5. The B760M board is getting shuffled to a 12400F 1060 build, which I still need to order more DDR5 for. Most of our upgrades around the house are with the Spectre/Downfall stuff happening recently and sales so idk just migrating all the data is what I work on from time to time. BG3 am thinking about going back to playing later. It's on my to play more list.

"Destroyer of PC Builds"... made me laugh out loud--and yeah, that case and its fans are ridiculous. I do have the Lian Li Lancool 216 in my box--and I did spend the extra $20 USD to put a CoolerMaster RGB Halo, becuase Lian Li thinks it made sense to put in a simple lightless fan in the back--but the first thing I noticed about the O11 was the insane lack of fans. The moral equivalent of a $500 case for almost ANY budget build is crazy, and Lian Li ought to be ashamed of themselves for even offering such a thing. To answer your question with the rme series, yes it is a problem with the fan bearing they used for that lineup of psu, as well it's not even really built better than the 2021 rmx series. If you want a replacement, in the US the be quiet! Pure Power 12 M is about the same price, 10 year warranty and much better built as well quieter. There is also a focus gx model around that price, just know using many of the 3000 series of gpus can cause too much noise to the psu and cause it to shut down, it's not an OCP thing. Johnnyguru has said to either remove the +12v sense wire or put an I ferrite bead on the +12v sense wire, seasonic apparently does or did rma / send out something to fix this issue but not sure if they still do considering the age of the psu, I will contact them later and ask.

I think from my research the capacitors start to go with the age of the PSI also. Have a couple of Seasonic units with 10 year warranty, A tier ones. Also have some SF ones, I should probably branch out, that PP one sounds interesting.

@@kelley09162 yeah I recommended the x670e steel legend to a friend, no issues, good audio and more than enough connectivity! If you like ASUS Strix, check out the B650-A Strix board which is white. IMO I'd go 6000 CL30 if you can. Even though the absolute latency on the 6400 CL32 kit is the same, you are pushing the CPU's memory controller very fast and it may kick into a ratio that hurts performance slightly.

Another fun and informative video, Jason. I've said this before, but I appreciate you go into detail about each component when boosting a build. This is helpful for incremental upgraders like me who do one component at a time and aren't doing a complete new build. For example, my next upgrade will be a new mobo, CPU and RAM (platform pending). I have the experience to be able to pull and re-seat a CPU and its aftermarket cooler on an existing mobo, but I just don't have the time. Swapping in a new mobo "kit" is a lot faster and makes more sense if I already have the SSDs, GPU, PSU, etc. This is where individual component details really help builders like me to know what's good and what's not. Keep up the great work!
@thenext9537 Жыл бұрын
That's what I do. For example, I went from a intel 6700k 32gb ram and 2080 super. Now I have 7800x3d. I did the cpu/mobo/32gb ram for 610$. Recently I snatched a rtx 3080 on ebay for 375$. Basically 1k for a new machine that's super fast! re used my 1.3k power supply, my m2 drive, case, Noctua d15 cooler, etc. Makes it much cheaper vs a 2000 build out the gate for doing all at once. I never did Ebay for a gpu, so I wasn't sure. But for a 4080 it's 1200$! I play at 1440p now and I get 60-150fps on ultra everything (except Starfied, I see your icon is that haha). I get 100 on Starfield now vs the 47 I had before. Long story, yea I agree a 'kit' is how I roll. Keeps costs down from all in all at once.

I could get any aspiring amateur music rig set up with an APU these days. DAWs aren't terribly GPU intensive, you'd only need an rx6600 at max for multi monitor support. Almost zero DAWs support 4k (you can use 4k, they just don't scale well), 1080p is still recommended. Mobo is by far the most important piece in a music rig, you can't go cheap, or it's almost a guarantee you will get signal path noise from poor USB grounding, regardless of what you're using for an interface. The one you chose was *_absolutely_* necessary over the original one, great choice btw! Source: painful lessons as an amateur producer haha. I've built quite a few studio rigs now though.

i would assume the original board was chosen for the PCIE slots for audio cards that use audio snakes , its a good way expand a studio from 8 in/out to 48 in/out with high head room , the french Digigrams are old but they havent really been surpassed especially when you look at the ability to expand them all the way to recording a small orchestra

A tip for the Hi-end build: Because there's budget left, go for the exact same RAM but 2x32GB. It's gonna be significantly faster. I would say the first build should’ve had the Montech air 903 max case instead. It has 140mm fans instead of 120, an rgb/fan controller, and much higher quality for greatly improved building experience. Only downside is that the exhaust fan isn’t rgb but the upsides are easily worth that concession imo. Even 3000$+ it’s a great choice if you don’t care about having a somewhat basic looking case. The bitfenix on the other hand has a lot of ‘quirks’ that could be frustrating like a weird front panel that can trap dust or cable holes that are a pain to work with. Technically the sale is a 10$ Newegg gift card but you can just order the case first and then get one of the other parts with that gift card.

A little insight from a fellow audio producer: 8 cores 16 threads is actually more than enough. I work with a 5600x on some pretty heavy projects and never ran into any issues. The SSD is definitely important though, and 32gb is the right amount of ram. As far as I know, most people use an external audio interface, pcie interfaces are more for gaming and such. So the internal audio codec is mostly irrelevant and the first board is enough. It's a very personal choice and it can get costly, but I would go with an empty case and fill it with low noise fans, but it would put it over budget. Though honestly, with how annoying my current noise levels are, I would recommend extending your budget to fit that, especially if you plan on mixing on monitors rather than headphones. I think the 6700xt is just mildly overkill, I'm getting 100+ FPS average with a 6700 non xt on Apex in 1080p with ultra settings, so if you can get it instead I'd say it's good enough, but it does have 10gb vram instead of 12. Otherwise, the base build isn't bad and the upgrade is really good, I suppose it's mostly down to personal preferences and priorities
@itsatrap4986 Жыл бұрын
I would actually opt for a brand new Ryzen 5 7600 $160 shipped. MT performance is equal to the 5700X but the single core is way better. I put together a list paired with a 6700XT that's just above $900. Knock off $100 if opting for the 6650XT which is a killer deal for 1080p.

Hi Jason, I'm also doing a first-time build remarkably similar to the 3500CAD build you show there (your version of it at least) and also had the 850W power supply, as with the 7800x3D and a 4080 PCPartPicker estimates a draw of 600W. 600*1.5 is 900 so I figured close enough since it's a general rule of thumb - do you think that will be sufficient? Or should I definitely go with the 1000W. Side-note I went with the Lancool 216 case based on one of your vids but without using an AIO (got a peerless assassin instead) there's no fans in the top, just the two 160mm intakes in the front and the 120 exhaust in the back. Do I need to get additional fans for the top? Or might it be fine without it. HUGE thanks for all the info in your videos, especially taking the time to actually explain what all the acronyms and specs mean - it was massively helpful to me as a first-timer who had been watching some other channel's videos and just hearing gibberish. @trueNahobino Жыл бұрын
Motherboards come with an audio codec built in which is used if you use a 3.5mm headphone jack (USB headphones and DACs don't care about the onboard audio). The most common types are ALC 897, 1200, 1220, and 4080, in order of worst to best. Also note that ALC 1220 and 4080 are basically the same so it doesn't matter much there. The audio codec really doesn't matter for most people unless you do stuff like music production or video editing using headphones that utilize onboard audio.

For the 2nd PC I mod for a streamer who used to play alot of warzone and that game prefers AMD GPUs. They optimise this game for AMD. This streamer had a Rx 6900x and people with rtx 3080 and 3090s would ask why he has higher FPS than them.

A cooler that I recommend for higher end and even budget builds because it's so cheap is the thermalright peerless assassin SE 35 bucks for a cooler that's on par with the NHD15 is a steal and it's easily tamed my 5800x3d

The only issue with the Peerless Assassin is that there's a newer version of that, the Phantom Spirit and in the US the price is about the same so people should just get that instead.

My setup is quite similar to the first one you suggested. Quite happy with it. The CPU & GPU and RAM amount are exactly the same and other components are higher tier (Noctua cooler, G skill RAM, Corsair PSU, Phanteks case) and others probably lower tier (Kingston NVME, Aorus MB). Nice for 1440p gaming. Not sure about music production, I'd probably had taken a new sound card.

@PCBuilderChannel Doesn't the 2 M.2 drives take to many PCI lanes? Because there are only 20 available 4 for a M.2 and 16 for the videocard. Just wondering if this might be limiting the videocard.

16 lines for the card are from the cpu and the m.2 are either all from the chipset (over 20 lanes now) or the 4 from the cpu and the other from the chipset.

@j.p.h.8126 Жыл бұрын
Yes the second build has too mutch money spent on bling. You should always go for performance first and bling later when the performance is already good. Btw i said in one of your previous vids that i just uppgraded my friends PC to 7800X3D and RX7900XTX. I allso put that Corsair RM850e PSU in it and it works fine. Runs with no issues and is quiet. With the Intel CPU power draw maybe a bit more but still a good 850W unit is enough. A 13700K plus 7900XTX or an RTX4070 Ti would pull like max 650 - 700W in full load on both CPU and GPU. And that will never happen in a normal use case. Allso the NZXT case is really expensive like the O11D. If the Lian-Li bug is present why not buy the mutch cheaper Lian Li LANCOOL 216 RGB case instead. And the Thermalright Assassin 120 SE ARGB CPU cooler. In that case with that cooler the 7800X3D and the RX7900XTX would stay more then enough cool and quiet. Remaining budget could be used to something else like peripherals or what ever.

I am a bit torn, currently running 5950X and RTX 4090. Got up to date NVME drives (2 Tb 990 pro, Intel 2 Tb NVME), have 32 Gb RAM etc. But I want to upgrade, mostly to use the 4090 better. Gaming mostly in 4K, but I also do some productivity. So I know in theory one could say I should buy 5800X3d because Ive got good RAM (g.skill, 32 Gb etc), and my mb is good (Asus X570i). But the 5800x3d is so expensive in Norway, costs the same as a 7800X3d. So I dont want to pay 500 dolalrs for 5800x3d. Now I also see DDR5 prices have come down. So then I have ordered 7800X3d, but I also bought 7950X (non x3d). I am kindof thinking: Either I should just use the 7800X3d (which is cheaper than 7950x) - or I should go with 7950X. 7950X will of course not utilize the 4090 to its fullest, but in 4K I guess the differences will be lower. I dont want 7950x3d due to it cost here 890USD... So I am thinking that I have to try 2 x 24 Gb 8000 MHz RAM, with the latest bios. And maybe Asus X670E Gene. I have already very good PSU, liquid freezer II 360 AIO, NZXT H9 Air with 6 x noctua fans + 4 x nzxt fans (very quiet and low temp build). I was kindof first thinking I should wait for 2024 and check what comes. But I guess if I buy 8000 Mhz RAM and a good x670e, with latest bios, if I then buy the 7800X3d for 500 USD and then in 2024 I see some very cool new CPU, I can always buy a new CPU then. Cost for 7800x3d + Asus X670 Gene + 48 Gb 8000 Mhz DDR5 RAM (g.skill) = ~1200 USD. Cost for 7950x + Asus X670 Gene + 48 Gb 8000 Mhz DDR5 RAM (g.skill) = ~1350 USD. I am kindof thikning that: do I dare to go away from my current 16 cores/32 thread.. But I guess that maybe I wont be that much affected with less cores, as if I do like photoshop - it will use the 4090 instead of the CPU anyways. Same with video rendering then I use the RTX4090 TUF OC.
@kelley09162 Жыл бұрын
Why 8000mhz RAM and a X670E Gene?
@OlavAlexanderMjelde Жыл бұрын
@kelley09162 In Norway, the X670e Gene is priced at $400, while the X670e TUF is $349. The X670e-e costs $570, and the X670f is $465. A decent quality B-board here is nearly $300 (like the 650b TUF, for example). That is almost the same as its X670E TUF sibling at 331 USD. So then no reason to go B-boards here. The X670e Gene offers excellent DAC, robust power stages, and the latest AGESA BIOS updates. It supports Gen 5 NVMe with one on the mainboard and another on an expansion card, along with a third Gen 4 NVMe. What I dont like about the gene is its only got 2 x PCI-e slots, so if I think down the line maybe if I wanted quicker LAN than 2.5 Gb, I would have to use that second slot and then have limited options. But on the other hand, I have been using X670-I from asus fro many years now, not having missing anything except maybe more m.2 slots.. In the future I just want m.2 drives, I dont want SATA. So I actually like X670E-E best of the cards, if only it was priced a bit lower. X670E-E is here 573 USD.. I think that is kindof too much, its slmost same as X670E Hero. I do however like some features of X670E-E, like more m.2 slots, all slots on mainboard etc. but its kindof this ever endring ladder of features that you can creep a board in price. But for the price of the X670e gene in Norway (400 USD),I cant see any better deal.. Should be said its on sale now for 400 USD, it usually costs 450 USD here, now at 400 USD.

What are your thoughts on pairing a 7800x3d with an evga ftw3 3070ti, don’t have the money to upgrade gpu just yet, would love any input. Love your videos and keep up the great work!
