i own both. the main diff i notice is the fx3 has an extra stop of dynamic range, so it's my go-to for lowlight/indoor shooting. and the absolute worse thing about the s5iix is moire. meaning if u have sharp focus on inorganic shapes (unfortunately, ubiquitous things, like a t shirt), there will often be a "dancing moire" pattern, like a reddish zebra pattern that moves, in your footage. art of hardingmal's video on the s5ii's moire shows examples. i hear ppl say the s5iix AF is a little slower than sony. I never use AF, but when i tested it as a goof, the s5iix def seemed usable in human tracking mode. if they got rid of the moire issue w an optical lowpass filter, the s5iix would be superior. s5iix has the best stabe of any full frame mirrorless under $4k. when i first tried it, it was like stabe from the future. s5iix is lightweight and the menu layout is superior to the fx3. also love the luminance spot meter, set that to a custom button and u can get an ire percentage of exposure on anywhere u can touch on the touchscreen (or use the joystick) this greatly simplifies matching exposures and i wish fx3 had the same feature. unfortunately, after replacing the first unit, my 2nd s5iix also had moire. seems a fact of the sensor bcoz of this, i use it more as a gimmicky gimbal-style camera for car mount and handheld walking shots. as an outdoor b-cam i hesitate, bcoz of moire. it works very well indoors but moire on tshirts spoils it for me. (i shoot 4k 24 and for car mount i shoot 4k 60). def glad i didnt get the fx30, as that crop ruins lowlight performance. the s5iix's 24mp sensor is way sharper than fx3, but tbh id prefer softer image (i never looked at my fx3 footage and thought "wish it was sharper"), ---id prefer the softer image of the fx3 over the constant concern over unfixable moire on the s5iix. if u have decent 150/300w lights, the s5iix can do well in lowlight, not worth spendin $2k more jus for one stop extra on the fx3. its the moire that spoils it for me, otherwise decent lens selection (sony has more options but not as big a deal these days). great battery life. external recording over usbc (i use angelbird 1.6ft usbc cable, smallrig black mamba cage on 9" 15mm rods, and kondor blue t5 ssd holder)--usbc recording to t7 shield works well n is so cost effective. 2tb on sony fx3 requires $500 atomos (u prob have that already thoe) and $500 for angelbird 2tb minissd for $150 on the s5iix u get 2tb t7 shield n usbc cable for external recording over usbc. i love the direction s5iix is goin in, but for me, the moire makes me hesitant to use it for anything as a main camera. depends tho, if u only upload to utube, maybe the compression would reduce the moire i tried 1/8 and 1/4 tiffen black pro mist filters to reduce moire. also tried desharpening in-camera in the picture styles. neither fix did anything to reduce moire tbh. wish it did. no way am i gonna keyframe out every video frame and blur tshirts in 4k timelines jus to remove moire, so its a gimmick cam for now s1h v2 coming next yr hopefully. til then its a really handy carmount / walking stabe camera w otherwise pro features for indie filmmaking (unlimited recording, quiet fan etc)

Thank you so much for your time and sharing you experience in detail. I know moire could be the most irritated think to be tacked during post and unfortunately it also cannot be fixed with a firmware upgrade. I know couple of owners and who never mentioned about this moire issue, but thanks for highlighting it, Next time when I use this camera, I will keep this in mind. Its my favrouit camera right now specially if we compare its price vs features.. like 6k open gate, stabilized anamorphic mode, as well as SSD support and lot more but I guess I will wait until they fix the moire issue, if they can. Thank you again for your detailed comment, its almost equvilant of this entire video.
And I imagine if you ever got this you could do a review on it as well. Because $600 is a lot of money.

I bought an s5ii X a couple of weeks ago. I’ve only had a day testing it with lenses so cannot report issues. This will be my only camera for the next 5 years. The S5ii/X doesn’t have a low-pass anti-aliasing filter. The Sony FX3 does. I love the rich features of the S5iiX, anamorphic options, its low light performance is good, it’s menus are great, it has nice form factor, and the price point is fantastic. But I am prepared to sacrifice all of this if moire is even occurring from ‘time-to-time’. I cannot have doubt about a camera in this regard. The Sony FX30 has low-pass filter. Other examples would be The Lumix GH5 which doesn’t have filter, but the GH5S does (as it’s video orientated). Same with the Lumix S1: the S1 doesn’t have filter. The S1H does. The S5iiX seemed the perfect camera, but this omission has caused me to look into changing the camera, for the very reasons that you describe. Such a shame.

Here is my take, buy a S1 for cheap, add a BMD assist 12g and a Live Air Smart Lidar for autofocus and you're still under 2k. Your welcome!
@CineGadget8 ай бұрын
That’s a great option for someone looking for building a rig, but to enable V-LOG we need to purchase and upgraded firmware which costs another £180/- in UK, but even that doesn’t throw the price up. The only challenge I see here for situations where one required to shoot in bare bone setup, e.g some chase action sequence or performing some fancy move or stunt, FPV, that’s where S1 can loose lots of its functionality.
@35mmdigitalcinema8 ай бұрын
S5II X dose not shout RAW on a SSD! It does e so on a Ninja 5 or a BMD video asist monitor/recorder.

I might have missed it, but I didn’t hear a comparison on the autofocus between the two cameras. While there are those creators who don’t believe this to be something of importance, but in this day and age autofocus is relevant. Panasonic has made considerable progress in this are, but Sony is miles beyond anything that Panasonic has achieved thus far.
@CineGadget10 ай бұрын
I agree, sony is miles ahead in AF but we also need to understand that this is Panasonic’s first AF version, almost like a beta update, looking at their reputation, it will keep getting better and soon it will reach to a level where we’ll not be discussing about it anymore and then the main game would be played using other important features and in that regards Panasonic is already seating on better position as compared to others.
@jeffreyfleming401610 ай бұрын
You’re right too. While the autofocus is a little lacking, I suspect that before too long, Panasonic will drop that firmware update, and the focus will be pretty good. All things considered, this is a very nice camera. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this in-depth review together. Very nice work, and I am subscribed.😊👍

How can you talk about expensive cameras like that and still not know how to sync your audio with your video, unacceptable quality.

This video is originally recorded in a different language for my main KZbin channel. On this channel I just dub my audio in English to make it available to my English speaking Audience, which I believe is much better the reading a subtitle. I believe knowledge and experience sharing is much more important than it’s medium.
