Why I've sold my Panasonic S5IIX?

Unfortunately I have parted my ways with Panasonic Lumix S5IIX. It was a great hybrid camera, but ... and it's sold already.

I just received my Lumix siix yesterday. I'm just new in the world of cameras, video and photography.. and did a 2 month research on what i needed for KZbin videos, outdoor videos.. and take some photos. It was the best option within the price range. What i understood here is that the camera was essentially bad because of his workflow, not the camera itself. The title suggests the camera is crap 😅

Nah. S5IIX is awesome camera, especially if you start your video journey. It might be actually overwhelming for the beginners, but at this price range it's the best hybrid you can get (now), especially if you leaning into video more than photos. And next week new firmware is going to be realized for us (the plebs) so it's definitely worth updating (new features). For photos I prefer A7IV, but for video S5IIX is better. I doubt the title or the thumbnail suggest otherwise.

The title is click- baiting. I will never understand why people want to tell me that they sell their camera, especially if it's such a personal story like here. Who can be interested in knowing that?

Seems ppl are actually interested. I bet by title you mean the thumbnail. If at least 1 person rethinks his purchase based on that story I'm happy. The reason is not really share that boring story, but to say that new camera hyped won't make you better ...

No, the S5IIX is by far the best hybrid FF video-focused camera on the market today in this price range. It just sounds like he was already too invested in Sony's ecosystem before he bought it, so I could see why he would rather just stick with Sony. Me personally though, I never found my Sony fun to use. It felt too much like a tool, and that was about it. With any of my Lumix cameras, I actually have fun shooting. I went the other way and sold my Sony and kept the Lumix 😂😂

Yeah the video is misleading. He is 10 lenses into the eMount system. I use the S5ii and S5iix extensively for video but Nikon Z7ii for photography. The facilities including 6K overcapture and then convert to vertival video in edit if i want to as well as the other video centric features and imporved autofocus make this camera compelling. The hype is real especially with proxies coming in the new firmware!

I’m currently using the GH5 and looking to upgrade to a new full-frame camera. I’m torn between the S5iix and the FX3. Do you think the extra cost for the FX3 is worth it? What are your experiences with the camera S5iix? I shoot Music Videos…

Depends on your shooting style (and technical part of it). I guess first question is how much slow motion you’re planning to do. If slo-mo is part of your daily routine then FX3 hands down, because it can record 4k60 and 4k120 without a crop. S5IIX can do 4k60p max, but with S35 crop which might be annoying (different field of view in crop mode). I’d say S5IIX IBIS is better than one in FX3, but if your shots include running or other fast pace moves you will probably use gimbal anyway ,then it does not matter that time, and for gimbal work fx3 might be actually better cause it’s a bit more compact. FX3 AF is a bit more sticky, but for me S5IIX AF is more organic out of the box (both with default setting), you can probably tune fx3 AF to be less robotic changing the settings. Both can record RAW (externally) so it’s a tie here, although you need more expensive recorder for FX3 due to its faster frame rates. This is what I can say based on “Music Videos”. If you can share more details that would be helpful.

Oh, and FX3 has second native ISO at 12800 while S5IIX is 4000. So you have almost 2 more stops of light available on the second ISO (in LOG).

Depends how you define well. You can check on my channel how 24 and 35 worked (here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5-pi4d_ibqfntE - very well in terms of AF). So 70-200 should work well too ... not sure how fast is video AF with this lens and how loud it is.

Yes. I have the Canon Ef 70-200 f 2.8 L ii and it works perfectly with the MC21. What an amazing combo! I'm coming from a Canon 80D and for video it just annihilates it.

😅😅 Actually never seen temp warning on my A7IV. And yes sony IBIS is trash, that's why I got Pocket 3 and OM-5 :D. I would love to keep the S5IIX, but not feasible financially to invest into two systems. Maybe if I have 500k subs not 500 😂😅😅

Great video. Now Blackmagic makes l mount and I have Leica tl lenses so for me and people new to this, Panasonic is good.

Thx. Yes, both Panasonic S5II/X and BMD L-mount cameras are great. But due to lack of lenses I've been able to utilize like 15% of my S5IIX powers. Now someone is going to use it for greater good. It's already sold to a person who makes real deal production (film student).

@@JoATTech nothing better than feeling like your gear goes to someone who will use it and you get paid for it. I just sold my nikon z5 for virtually no loss after 3 years of no use basically... I had the same problem with the mount as you did... Sony has the advantage of making both vieo and photo cams so E mount is as strong as the L mount "alliance"... but since I had invested in Leica glass, it is what convinced me to keep my sigma fp, asit also works spectacularly with vintage leica m lenses where you can zone focus accurately unlike with the nikon z mount for some reason - that could be to do with the third party adapter. L mount is becoming rather deadly lately...

Never thought about Nikon Z ecosystem, because of the lens selection. There are actually working converters from e-mount, but it's too much of the hassle. Not sure what you mean by "deadly" .... deadly good or deadly bad :D The shame is l-mount alliance seems not to allow some 3rd party lens manufactures produce AF lenses :( (for example Laowa 10mm F2.8).

I though of buying A7III as my second angle camera (the cheapest it was here in Poland last year was ~$960 NEW), but it has 8bit video with lousy bitrates and codes. Not a big deal for YT, but for anything else can be annoying.

I don’t know why people are so angry about this video, this is his point of view, and maybe a few things at the end I don’t agree one. But damn cool down guys, he hasn’t kill no buddy. If he does not sue him and his way of working, what is your issue 😅😂 Said that, cameras and gear depends always from the shooter. Someone like me don’t care about slow motion at all, and what the S5IIX offers is way more advanced that what many cameras in it category. And makes it a best buy over many others. It is an amazing camera for smaller productions, and it is wrong to compare it to the FX6, because it is made for other categories and users. But as I said, your opinion is still yours, and happy for you, that at least you found where you belong. But there’s no lesson to be learned there, because the A7IV have a lot of issues, that the S5IIX fixes, no doubt. It is just what best for you, but again no lesson to be learned here, just a point of view.

Thx @samuelboatengyt for the voice of reason :D. S5IIX is great camera and if it was released 2 years earlier I would be probably 100% in Panasonic ecosystem. For my budget it's even better for me than A7IV, but since I'm deep into e-mount my S5IIX was just a hype purchase. I should just think about S5IIX purchase and it's implications before buying it. But the YT hype was so strong that I pulled the trigger :D. So I guess general lesson is to just think about your purchases out cold, and wait few weeks for the hype to settle down :D.

I thought about it, and I would probably buy DJI Lidar (Focus Pro) some day, but now the basic version is ~1100€ here in Poland, so not very feasible option. This would be dope combo with Ursa Cine 12k, but out of my budget and skills at the moment :D.

Yes. Why everyone thinks there is something wrong with S5IIX, since it's a fantastic camera. Switching systems is very expensive unless your are YT with 100k subs and Panasonic gives you all glass for free :D.

Thx 😅. And it's hard to a degree. For example I have outgrown A6600 so it was not that bad to sell it ... but had to part ways with S5IIX because of lack of lenses ... and I used like 15% of the potential this camera offers 🥲

I had the Panasonic GH5 and I was having a tough time deciding on my new camera. That being said I ended up buying the Canon R5C and spent almost $10,000 That being said if I survive this financial mess I'm in I'll be a kid in user for a long time. Only thing I don't like is their accessories are extremely overpriced

If Canon R5C is what fits you well, then it's cool. I almost pulled a trigger on regular R5 long time ago, but I'm glad I swapped it for A7I,. Glass is much cheaper for the e-mount (especially from 3rd parties) and there are much more used lens offers available.

@@JoATTech yeah you are 100% correct but the money you saved on lens you probably spent buying type a cards that are slower or expensive. Every new piece of tech and camera brand has a trade-off or two right lol. I really relied on firmware updates for the GH5 to fix the issues with the autofocus. That being said I will have to comment in a few years when I climb out of this pile of money that I spent. I definitely am enjoying Canon log 3. Supposedly the r52 is going to be coming out in the next month or two That will be really interesting

I'm using Kingston Canvas React Plus 256GB SD Cards ( amzn.to/49FL2Go - affiliate :D), which are really good and price is ~160€ (no tax). There are also good 1TB CFExpress cards for 385€ (without tax) - so even cheaper per GB than SD cards. So actually there are plenty of options there.

@@JoATTech yeah that's certainly not too bad. If you're going to be shooting in intra-Frame on Canon you need one TB at the very least. Although the video editor doesn't seem to like long GOP so I'm stuck shooting in these high data rates.
