This time were checking out Flixtrain Sweden on their route from Stockholm to Gotenburg and the expirence left me underwhelmed and not wanting to return unless the competition is significiantly more expensive. At the price paid for todays trip compared with the prices MTRX offers Flixtrain just does not do it for me. Watch the video for my full thoughts

It all depends on what one is expecting as a passenger in relation to price. If they are safe, not colliding with others or derailing, I am even accepting sitting on a camping chair. Soon after WW II the first Sleeper trains in Germany were made up of surviving freight carriages, fitted out with hammocks, having the passengers swinging around all night (their bodies in the hammocks, not them with each other ... gosh). Looks good enough to me and I might use them one day, if still around when visiting Sweden. Some people are too spoiled these days.

I think my main issue with them, was MTRX has better trains, often for a cheaper price, so there is not much reason to travel with Flixtrain unless they are the cheapest

@@Simon-Andersen Point noticed and taken. As long as there is safe space on those rails and everyone using them paying for their maintenance, let them roll. Free market.

I traveled from Skövde to Stockholm with Flixtrain with my daughter back in 2021 when the service was just established. Yes, it was cheap, but it was also noisy, not very comfortable or clean. As we had traveled in the other direction with MTR, we found that the lower price didn't compensate for the low comfort, and haven't used Flixtrain again.

„Swedens low cost train“ this isn’t true because actually this company was founded in Germany and it’s first ride was in Germany plus the location is in Munich

I checked the price for April now and it starts from 10 EUR which is extremely cheap, especially for Sweden. I took a Flixtrain once in Germany and was totally satisfied, was also extremely cheap. You don't really need much of comfort for a 3:22 journey. p,s. these trains lack an aircon so probably not a good idea to travel in high summer Greetings from Berlin< i really love Scandinavia, Norway and Sweden are my favorite countries , I even learn Norwegian

At 10 euros my opinion would deffo be different! They recently have had to cancel all their trains in Sweden due to damage on their trains so i think they might have lowered the costs to win back passengers.

In Germany prices start at 2.99€ if you want to travel just a few stops.

@@Simon-Andersen I drive these trains, and the coaches are a bit loud, has many electrical issues and lack air conditioning, during hot days I would recommend anyone to steer clear. (They've said they're going to cancel the trains if it's about 30 degrees warm, but I have yet to see that happen.) We also had huge issues with the undercarriage of the coaches being smashed to smithereens by macadam during the winter snow, it still has us run in a very diminished capacity. I'd say the worst thing about Flixtrain is the lack of information they send to customers when things happen, rather than say "train's cancelled for this reason" it's just "Your travel has changed, these are your new options." Don't get your comparison in speed with MTRX though, after Alingsås the speed is 120 for both Flix and 125 for MTRX, and depending on the time of day we both can get stuck behind Västtrafiks commuter trains. In general it's a 5-10 minute difference, but yes MTRX do go a tiny bit faster since they have a 15% overspeed compared to our 10%. And while we can drive 200 km/h, most of the drive is around 150-175km/h, and 200 basically just from Skövde and halfway to Hallsberg, and then again for a stretch between Södertälje and Flemingsberg. That said, I would most likely also ride with MTRX if I was going between Stockholm and Gothenburg, and the prices weren't too dissimilar. The X74 is a lot more comfortable than the East-German coaches we drive around with.

@@mstrmrenin Germany train prices are since 2022 subsidised by the government in order to encourage green travel. So the full price is still payed by the tax payers.

2:19 "refurbished" by adding extra 20-25 seats or so. I remember reading an article back in 2020 on RailColor stating their fleet of 22-94 coaches will have 100 seats each. Which I found to be horrendous considering their original design had only 60 & up to 3 compartments in each end. By far my favorite type of coaches; had the joy to cover multiple long distance routes in Romania with them on CFR's services (see 22/30/83/84-76/96) Just enjoying the views, opening the windows & listening to those jointed tracks albeit very old & unmaintained at around 65-70 km/h.

The services have been withdrawn/suspended at the moment due to ballast flinging up and damaging the stock. Not sure if they’re back in service yet.

I don’t get why low-cost carriers like FlixTrain and RyanAir always have to use such tacky color schemes, whether that’s FlixTrain’s vomit green or RyanAir’s pee-stain yellow. It’s not enough to be cheap - they have to look cheap too.

That's quite subjective. I find the green color very pretty compared to other trains and busses.

I did this route las Autumn with SJ Snabbtåg and Ryanair back, for a weekend. A friend took Flix both ways and said it was good enough. What I really like about SJ is their loyalty program. I regularly take Intercities or Regionals to Stockholms during hybrid work and get enough points for a long distance trip every year plus they cover almost all of Sweden. Unfortunately SJ intercity with locomotive and coaches are no longer doing these longer routes, but I find them great value when booking in advance in central Sweden. Sometimes you get lucky with coaches that have amazing seats (B11, B7F). Snabbtåg takes an extra markup. What I find Funny is that Flix coaches are rated to run 200kmh whereas the other companies just top at 160.

SJ is great, i took the X2000 up to Stockholm from Copenhagen. Looking forward to my trip on their locohauld intercities very soon. Thanks for the insight :-)

@@Simon-Andersen Saw the video! Cool, I haven't tried the refurbished X2000 yet. What routes do you want to cover with the loco IC? Infact I did Stockholm-Oslo in 1st Class IC and preferred it to the X3000. Otherwise from Uppsala I take the trains covering the route to Dalarna, and I will do a daytrip there soon. I like the Lok+Vagn trains and depending on the coaches some are awesome. B7F and B11 have the best 2nd class seats. B10 IMO worst as they are regional coaches (almost all in old blue livery btw). Unfortunately till summer SJ is refurbishing bistro coaches so some trains go without. Also, free coffee with the loyalty program! The X40 double deckers are OK, but no bistro and 1st class is just a separate section 2nd class

Going above 160 requires the carriages to have magnetic rail brakes installed and functional. Pretty much all EMUs have those but they're rare on loco-hauled stock, and the other companies don't want to spend money on the upgrade and extra maintenance.

Gamle Stan will be on your left when going southboumd with the train. However I don't think that its visible from the train.

I have been traveling with mtrx and SJ between Gothenburg and Stockholm many, many times, and Sunday the 7:th of may, I'm going to travel with Flixtrain so I can give my view on it! Flixtrain was 299kr and SJ was 663kr and mtrx was 609kr, so flixtrain was less than half price!

I went good, in general a nice trip and quite comfortable. Well worth the price. But if SJ is 195kr and Flix is at 129kr, I would take SJ.

That because they have dynamic pricing. The bigger operators sell out their tickets so prices go up with every ticket sold. In the end it’s only the small, low cost, low standard operators left with low prices. Buy your tickets earlier and you’ll get the low prices with the better quality operators.

If you watched my conclusion, they were often not very cheap flixtrain, while having the worst product. I paid less on MTRX - There is probably a reaaosn why MTRX and SJ still run trains while Flix has left the market.

The bike space is the ONLY between Stockholm and Göteborg. SJ and other operators (MTRX) does NOT take bikes onboard!

I’ve been driving those trains and this video is somewhat not totally accurate. But it is a low cost train, you get what you pay for… and I, who is a bit shorter, sits better in Flixtrain than in SJ’s trains, X2 and X40.

Yes there is one flix machine by the bus terminal. Best to buy online beforehand

If corse you could get train coaches of the 70s up to modern standard. But for that you have to try instead of being an enormous cheapskate like flix is... Dont like this always the cheapest concept anyways. Thats not how a high quality public transportation system can be operated and with these services the only thing that happens is, that state operators loose out on the attractive routes and the public has to cover more deficit on the regional services.

FlixTrain on the Malmö C-Stockholm C route takes 8h-10h and costs at least 499 kr. SJ takes 4h30m and costs at least 695 kr. It's not worth it. For 200 kr it would be ok.

@@eldinoAs a former conductor on FlixTrain, we don’t have any trains between Malmö and Stockholm. We simply have too few wagons, and can barely manage daily trains between Gothenburg and Stockholm

As mentioned in the video MTR is cheaper better and faster, why would you ever take this train then? I'm avoiding it as the alternatives are better

@@Simon-Andersen I took a Flix train because it offered a direct train from Stockholm to Falköping at the appropriate time. I think I booked a seat with a little extra leg space (I'm 1.93) which was fine. It's better to know that you must bring your own food than to rely on a buffet car that turns out to be closed or non-existent, as in other videos. There are many operators in Sweden now, so shop around. Unfortunately the Blue Train (Blåtåget) doesn't run any more - I used it once as a direct train from Uppsala to Alingsås.

As explained in the video, Flixtrain was signficialy more expensive than their competitors while also having worse trains, there is no need to travel with them and we'll you can't because they pulled the route now (probably because they weren't good)
