I seem to have really bad stock problems at my Targets, so I have to plan to show up when the new shipments come in or hope other folks leave them on the shelf if I show up later. I love the leader Blitzwing, myself. Even the jet mode; his jet mode was always extra chunky due to the tank mode. "Tank parts hanging off the jet" and "Jet parts hanging off the tank" are, to me, quintessential traits to a triple changer.

I agree that this figure gets over-hated. Robot mode is top-notch. Tank mode is generally excellent. Plane mode is a mess underneath, but looks great when viewed overhead! There’s not many triple changers that are great in all 3 modes, so 2/3 great I’ll take over even distribution of “meh”. Sandstorm is pretty close, but even his dune buggy mode looks odd from certain angles and half his vehicle mode hangs off his back anyway. SS86 Springer is close, but his helicopter mode is basically taking his car mode and extending the legs.

You know, with all the complaints that the legacy blitzwing mold has come under fire for, with the fact that age of the primes is giving animated characters a slot thanks to fugitive wasp, I think the least they can do is give animated blitzwing a much needed second shot. The funny thing is that animated blitzwing had been insulted by bumblebee in a way that accurately describes this mold.

While I'm good with owning the Legacy Blitzwing the colors on this look really good. Not about to shell out Leader Class prices for one though. I like how the Dramatic capture release completely ditched the transparent Hulk hands as there is literally no reason for those things to exist other than bump up the price. The Siege Astrotrain did a lot more with its accessory budget than this and really looking forward to the Galaxy Shuttle release.

10:02 The jet mode js mproved greatly by doing the pin mod. You can actually remove the backpack during this alt mode. It's pretty awesome and it turns into a very cool looking fighter plane. It also is pretty solid.

Gamestop Canada had a pricing error when the preorder for this guy went up. This leader class was priced at a deluxe pricepoint and the deluxes were priced at the leader class pricepoint, they honored the price for the first bunch of customers but cancelled the rest and deleted the listings entirely and put them up a few weeks later. I did not bother with this one though.

So, don't avoid Overcharge because he's a bad figure (although those vehicle modes definitely have issues) but because he'll inevitably sit on clearance for years like his predecessor. Hopefully they fixed the tolerances this time around. I don't hate the concept of the Energon gauntlets but their size means they limit articulation and I would much rather the parts budget went towards covering up the front of the tank. Cartoon accuracy isn't always a good thing, especially when you're trying to replicate the animators' mistake. Like Blitzwing, I think the best you could do to fix the plane mode would be to remove the winglets used in robot mode and swap them around, so they point the other way. Then folding them out in plane mode at least gives you a strange biplane instead of the winged brick Hasbro were going for.

The reason for this way being full repaints is to offset costs for the figures that have been made with new tooling. For example the upcoming age of the Primes has The Leader Class Grimlock being re-released in his G2 colors the reason being it's off set the cost of the new molds. I highly recommend checking out Specter creative because he's giving a lot of insight into how the toy industry actually works

I honestly think the colors work way better in the jet mode than on blitzwing. The darker color on the undercarriage makes it stand out less, compared to the massive slab of tan. But that's kinda the thing with blitzwing. You either get a bulky jet/jet with undercarriage or an anemic tank/tank made mostly of wingflaps.

I think the biggest disappointment about this release is that they did NOT do any retooling where it really counted, I would've gladly sacrificed the hulk hands if it meant that budget could've gone to retooled shoulders with a better range, a way to actually lock in place the panels of the forearms and SOMETHING to hide the kibble better, an extra swivel on the tank kibble could've let it sit flush with the wings or maybe some way to make the small winglets become the horizontal tailfins of the jet, but honestly, better shoulders would've been enough. But oh well, let's wait for a sale, if I see this guy cheap enough I might grab it, the colours ARE extremely nice.

Honestly, Overcharge was a figure I was legitimately thinking of getting a couple of since I do like the army building aspect of them, and the colors I feel have this fun utilitarian feel to them. But the fact that Hasbro's way of differentiating this mold was to add insignificant vents on the sides of the face that make no difference instead of something like a face mask which almost all Diaclone-like repaints usually get honestly annoys the heck out of me. Add in them STILL including those stupid hands, and still charging leader class when it should be beyond evident that the mold still failed to sell on a POPULAR character just adds icing onto a a rotting cake, here. There is genuinely no reason to be excited by this figure until it hits discounted prices of, like, $17 each, which then I'll of course snag a few and make my own modifications to them.

So for now, maybe we should call him OverPrice instead? 😂 Anyway, I was super disappointed with the new Blitzwing so I sold him and kept my Takara Legends version. But for Overcharge, I can appreciate the robot mold and tank mode and just ignore the plane mode completely, and buying Overcharge cheap later on just to get a cool robot in a nice repaint IS completely okay for me. He's not my Blitzwing, but I can buy and like Overcharge for what he is...if the price goes down to deluxe or below. The robottank transformation is very okay and both modes look good. The paint scheme for Overcharge works better for this mold than Blitzwing did.

Intro looked a little out of order. The last two shots should be reversed. It would make more sense for Optimus to fire at Overcharge and then rip his arm off. The current version has Optimus rip Overcharge's arm off and then the jumping blast but Overcharge has his arm back. unless Optimus was fighting more than one Overcharge but the issue is, there's no context to show if there was more than one Overcharge.
