That was calming to listen to. Great healthy practice! Its a euro thing as well. “Germans open their windows and doors regularly to exchange stale air with fresh air from outside, a practice known as lüften. Lüften is a way of life in Germany, and is considered so important that it can be included in tenant agreements. Here are some details about lüften: How often: Germans open their windows multiple times a day, all year round. How much: A burst of fresh air is achieved by flinging the windows wide open, a practice called Stoßlüften. Benefits: Lüften improves air quality, prevents the air from getting too dry, and helps ensure that indoor air quality doesn't suffer during the colder months.”

Scott. You are a pioneer in the importance of cabin ventilation. I have a Ford Transit and found some rubber cap’s (removed them) underneath on the rear beam below the rear doors. I installed two trailer vent covers. Fresh air come through the vertical beams pre drilled holes. Problem solved. I also have a CO2 / Temp / Humidity monitor. ( along with a fire / CO monitor). When I heat with propane ( and even just human breathing in a box w/o vents) the CO2 rises quickly. Outdoor air is about 410 ppm. Above 2000 ppm can cause health problems. Just something to be aware of, for all vanlifers. Let’s enjoy it while we can .

Three years full time in a Transit connect passanger in Canada. The first two winters I had no issues with humidity due to spending all year in the prairies. Since its the minivan version of the transit...I couldn't get a furnace installed. I just bundled up with -38 sleeping bags..and threw them in the laundromat dryer once a week. Last winter I decided to give myself a break and wintered on vancouver island. During a three day winter storm..my rear and two side windows shattered while I was sleeping. Turns out the humidity in combination with my breathing and coffee making...despite keeping both front windows cracked a half inch...collected ice in the uninsulated body panels. The ice..distorted the van's body and shattered the windows. I spent the remaining winter there with cut out tarps in the windows..and was miserable. I'm in a stick and bricks now. For those of you in minivans...don't try to winter in cold humid climates unless you have a good heat source.

I’m in a transit midtop. No insulation. No roof vent. Going into year six all over west coast including summer in Newport OR (wet!). I leave my back and/or sliding door ajar, (they will still lock) for cross ventilation when I can’t have them open. I feel that by allowing the inside to emulate outside temps, I have no issues. No dripping ceiling, just cloth covering across the ribs held up with magnets to make it more homey. 🎉

Hi Scott, long time subscriber here. It's interesting to see how much we have in common and how much differs between us. Where I live in my van the temperature in the winter (November to april) could go down to negative 40 degrees celsius. That is not a fun time. You struggling with heat and Im struggling with cold. You mentioned that you have an air intake in the floor of your van witch is something I just can't have. The cold creeps up there and makes it very cold for me. I would not survive without a diesel heater (if it's not to cold) and a mini stove. Yes, ventilation is the key but in this cold weather ventilation is a bit of a problem. Love your videos and I am so baffled that we kind of have the same problems but with a massive temperature difference.

Early on in my nomad journey I had a really hard time with condensation. Keeping the air moving and keeping any propane use to a minimum has made life much more tolerable. Having your vent in a low position could be a lifesaver if there is ever a propane leak as well, I learned that lesson but thankfully not the hard way.

They come in two sizes, I got the larger one which is for higher elevations. I can control the heat output (temperature) and I can even drive while it’s running. It’s a wonderful thing to have.
