As a Brahms biographer (and great Brahms admirer) said, Brahms is popular music at its highest level.

A very special performance. My favourite music, full of dreams and joy, both to play and to listen to. Totally absorbing, concentrated playing and superb ensemble. Overwhelmed. Wish I had been there but with such good video I can listen again. And again!

Fantastic playing in this Brahms perhaps most introvert String Sextet.

The tree musicians earlier known by me are: Clara-Jumi Kang, famous solo violinist (I have heard her in many conserts), Boris Brovtsyn (I have heard him in several top chamber ensembles). And if they are presented from left to right: Timothy Ridout. But all six of them are of course at the same high musical level.

Sorry, Amahai Grosz! But what does it matter? They are all of them top musicians.

And sorry for spelling wrong, english is not my first language. "The tree musicians" shall of course be "the three musicians".

aside of the tremendeously exelent intrepretation, the camera work and video edditing are qorgeous as well. these shots from upstage toward the hall, dark, doted occagionaly with varios lights, reminding a sight of the universe, giving the sansation of creating the music floating in an endless space - are ingenious.

Apparently the videographer either doesn’t like the two violists, or couldn’t figure out a way to hang the cameras to get a close up of these two handsome fellows. A bit 1st violin heavy, but overall a very bright and cheerful interpretation of a quixotic opus. Bravo!

Quixotic? You must be referring to your own comment. Post something on YT and everybody's suddenly a critic. Here's a wonderfully lyrical, introspective piece for a unique combination of instruments -- Brahms' own -- and you're interested in 'handsome fellows' and 'videographers' and you think it's 'violin heavy'. But ultimately you find it 'bright and cheerful'! How quaintly condescending. Oh, where is Kylie Minogue when you need her?

Usually Brahms is not lacking in imagination in musical themes. In this work, I frankly don't understand where the listener's attention wants to lead😩
@villafloridiana Жыл бұрын
Ok. Thank you! I prefer to listen to a musician who has had a musical idea and submits it to the aesthetic judgment of the listeners😀👋

Well, at least you're 'frank' about your own lack of imagination. As if anybody cares.

Interesting dynamics (not sure Brahms would recognize them). Try the version with Quartetto Italiano.
