Badass BBQ Rub: Beginning in 1995, Tom Norris is a founding member of the Grillas BBQ Team in Kansas City. The Grillas were the 2003 American Royal "Open" BBQ Contest's Grand Champions. In 2004 we took 1st Place in Brisket at the Jack Daniel's World Invitational BBQ Championship in Lynchburg, TN. Over the years we have won some of the largest BBQ contests on the circuit.
This video shows you how I make my Badass BBQ Rub. This rub is great on Pork, Ribs and Chicken. It is easy to make and you will be happy with the final product.

Thank you so much for sharing your dry rub with us. IT TRULY is a WINNER! My Dad said, See, that's WHY Mr. Norris WON!!! His BADASS is damn DELICIOUS!

great rub! as others have noted it is a little to salty so i adjusted it and only used 1/2 cup of kosher salt and 1 Tbs of cayenne pepper instead of 2. Amazing! Thanks!

Calls for Kosher salt... Sea salt is quite a bit stronger.

Killer recipe Tom & @LoveIsTheAnswer, thanks a bunch for listing ! As haydenfq points out though, Tom says Four Teaspoons (4 Tsp) for the black pepper at 2:12 and also lists it @ 3:12. Happy BBQing!

I love this stuff. It is my new "go to" rub for anything. I really like it when I do rotisserie chicken. Then I finish the chicken off with his Bad Ass BBQ Sauce. And that sauce is also awesome. I will never buy BBQ sauce again!

Curious on the sugar content also. I do like the sweet/savory .. would be awesome for chicken. Would be afraid of it burning for longer cooks. Thank you very much Tom! Inspiration. Thank you

I have been looking for a rub for a long time. This recipe seems to be what I am looking for. One question, where do I get Raw sugar and Hungarian paprika from? I don't believ I can get it at Publix. Thnaks.

Kenneth, I normally use a sweeter Hungarian Paprika which is brighter red in color. Depending on the protein and who I am cooking for, I will use a lighter red or brownish Hungarian Paprika that is hotter.
@psymouss

+Tom Norris Yeah, right. Here, in Hungary we usually go for Paprika from the city of Szeged or Kalocsa. Both are the bests in Hungary, really. Those fields have deep, rich type of fields end the locals are known for growing Paprika since generations and generations. Anyways, I love your video and thank you for your support for today's evening BBW :D Hi5!

Seeing the age on this video, I think we can safely say that adding the sugar and salt is something done separately instead of together with your other ingredients. Why this was not well known a decade ago I do not know.

Too much sugar. Followed to a T this past weekend and my meat literally caramelized and the outside melted into the butcher paper. I figured it would happen but wanted to give it a fair shake instead of assuming. But I will say it tasted really good. If you aren’t wrapping your meat you should be ok otherwise just scale way back
