Nissan really needs to drop CVTs from their entire lineup. Even if they've improved its reliability, they've earned a bad reputation for it. Especially for their Infiniti brand.
@naveenthemachine3 жыл бұрын
Cvts in general are fine. It’s who makes them is the issue. In this case JATCO is nissans transmission provider If they used say Aisin, Toyota’s transmission provider then their cvts would be fine in general
@damilolaakanni3 жыл бұрын
@@naveenthemachine that's the point. Nissan has already built a bad reputation around CVTs. It's so bad that people think all CVTs are bad. Most other CVTs would run for longer periods of time if the transmission fluid is changed at recommended intervals, which some people tend to ignore. Plus, most CVTs are not as smooth running as regular automatics (whatever that means🤷🏽) and are annoyingly noisy to most people. Those kind of people would look elsewhere for their cars anyway. People just don't understand that CVTs are not designed for performance but for fuel efficiency (at least the EVs become commonplace globally).

Understand that this Altima came out a few years ago, Nissan is starting to use the 9 speed auto in their most recent products the next generation Pathfinder and Frontier.
@damilolaakanni3 жыл бұрын
@@La-yt1wr the nine speed in the Frontier is different from the one in the Pathfinder, though. The pathfinder's nine speed is a ZF unit, the same one in the Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Pilot. The frontier's nine speed replaces an old six speed transmission, not a CVT, and it was designed in house by Jatco for rear-wheel drive application. But since the Pathfinder has received the ZF nine speed, let's hope that it would make it to their other front wheel drive models (maybe except the Rogue which has just been redesigned for 2021, and the kicks which kinda replaces the Versa Note.)
@kirbycairo3 жыл бұрын
I would avoid any CVT, at least for the time being. I think that the bugs just haven't been worked out. Obviously Nissan has had a particularly poor record with their CVT, but I think in general I would wait. After all, it took a couple of decades before automatic transmissions really improved from their original versions. What continues to bother me about so many of these cars are the low profile tires. What a waste! Just give me a regular tire that is soft and lasts long. I'm not racing the car, I'm just driving it around.

Over the years I've driven sedans and crossovers. Had both a '12 Escape and a '16 Escape. Nothing overtly wrong, but after driving another sedan for a bit I realized it was far more comfortable than the Escape, and got my '19 Fusion. Great car with some obvious cheapouts, but awd. Even with the then updated ecoboost, a slight mpg increase, way more comfortable drive position and ride. Fast forward to this month, enter my '22 K5 GT-Line AWD... leaps and bounds nicer inside. Way more features, even more comfortable drive position, ride i would say is close (a '22 Camry SE was noticeably stiffer) and for normal driving feels every bit as peppy as the 2.0 turbo Fusion even being down on power. Even better, my first tank of go juice I seen a 4 mpg increase over what I could before. I'd also add that the K5 feels sportier too, especially with sport steering enabled in the drive mode.

Just a 25 min trip cross town was enough for my hips to hurt. So get a crossover or truck or off to see a doctor hmm well easy answer. Within a month of sliding in and out - no more hip pain. Anecdotal? Yes but it solved the issue. Will I stick with Nissan or go to another brand? Most likely I will be heading to a new brand unless that new frontier fits me. I feel like this is another one of those videos based mostly on emotional appeal, just like the save the manual evangelists. I like manuals, but I like rotary telephones too. Obsolete tech is neat. Sure don't want to live with it every day though. Personally I have no interest in an AWD vehicle if it doesn't have acceptable ground clearance accompanying it. GM, Ford and Chrysler made a huge long term business mistake by just betting on SUV's not all customers want them and like history has shown with wagons then minivan's things go out of fashion. Could you imagine in the 90's if all car companies said oh minivans are popular lets just make minivans. You would think auto companies have lost their mind. Don't beat down on your car and change the CVT fluid at 30,000 miles then you wouldn't have to go to the repair shop with CVT issues .. But that's all CVT's right ?? So why single out Nissan ?? Toyota, Honda, and Subaru all have the same problems ..

Fusion and Chrysler had awd since 2007. Yawn. None of these are luxury cars being the Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion and Mazda 6 offer real wood and real leather. Luxury is more then just looks guys. You’ve Been reviewing cars for much too long for that.
