I’ve watched a lot of binding tutorials but this is by far the best I’ve seen. I’ve been making journals for a couple years both with the stitches showing and hidden binding. I’m always a Little nervous when I attach it to the cover because sometimes they just don’t lay right. The way you use the paper clips between each signature is genius. Excellent technique and well presented. No silly stuff just great information. I bet you’re a teacher! I’ve just subscribed and now I want to see your other videos. I hope you had a chance to do one on those awesome book corners.

May I ask what is the purpose of adding the cheese cloth here? It seems to me that you could stick the binded signatures to the cover without it. Just wondering... More importantly, this tutorial is really helpful as I'm making my first rounded spine journal. Thank you so much for sharing!
@aweezielchk6 жыл бұрын
I add the cheesecloth to give the journal more character. It isn't integral to the construction of the journal.

Hello, I have one more question...do you show how to attach the signatures onto the piece of reinforced paper that gets attached to the inside of the cover. Do you use glue to attach the tyvek to the signature paper?
@aweezielchk6 жыл бұрын
To attach the signature to the inner spine piece, I use a simple, straifht pamphlet stitch. I use Beacon adhesive (3 in 1, Fabritac, Fabri Fix) to attach the Tyvek to the inner spine piece paper.

Hi! Love your video thank you thank you! You stated at the beginning of the video that you stabilized the spine with your "ordinary spine reinforcement technique". Would you mind telling me what that is?
@maryjanesmith4261 Жыл бұрын
Just discovered your KZbin site. I’m very new to altered book junk journals. Do you have a general guide or rule to spacing your multiple signatures to your signature piece. Also a guide as to how many signatures based on width of spine. I realize the number and weight of paper for signatures impacts this. I generally use copy paper eight with perhaps a piece or two of card stock. Thanks so much. Your work is beautiful!
@aweezielchk Жыл бұрын
I do have a general guide. I make odd numbers of signatures. Usually five signatures. Each signature has a base number of five pages. I then add in flip outs, envelopes, mini size pages, etc. I mark the center of my spine and mark signature lines to either side of the center signature line. I make 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch spaces between my signature line. This depends on how full my signatures are. Hope this helps.

Why not glue when fastening done the flap to the cover piece?? Double stick tape & glue? Beacon glue, right?
@aweezielchk6 жыл бұрын
I find double stick tape on the edges secures the edges more securely than glue alone. Yes, Beacon thinned wirh 100% acetone for a viscosity that smooths more easily.
