These devices do not have backlighting. They have front lighting. Back lighting means light emits to form the image. Front lighting is light that shines on a surface to illuminate it. E ink uses no light at all to render words, images, etc.

I bought it recently. Everything is great, but on the case there are 2 black rectangles, that are covered in transparent cover. If you take this cover off (and I assume you are supposed to do it), the tablet will STICK TO THE CASE. I don't understand that design choice at all :)

Looks very intriguing and I would love something like this for reading manga! The stylus is a nice feature too. My only concern is that the matte finish on the screen will degrade over time if you do a lot of writing on that screen. The stylus tip will wear out quickly, too.

This costs between 500 to 600 EUR depending on the model and bundle you get. Cheaper than remarkable 2 (if you start adding accessories for remarkable it will top 650, and after the first year they will charge you 6 EUR per month for the connect service). So definite value here, but I personally cannot justify the price, when a non e-ink tablet at the same price will give you color, blazing speed, video support etc. Yes, they are for different users and uses, but it's only my opinion :)

Hi. I own the first generation Onyx Boox Note Air, and it works perfectly fine with my Microsoft bluetooth keyboard. I'm a writer myself. And although the latency is not a huge issue even in the slowest refresh mode, it still feels a bit off, like something is wrong. So my diagnose is it's definitely a viable option, laptop feels better. But that might be due to unfamiliar software (google docs instead of ms word) and a small sized keyboard I used. So def try it.
