Awesome Horror Games to Play on Halloween

It's that time of year where survival horror games and horror movies definitely seem to be the best. Especially on Halloween night. So I wanted to pick out some random horror games from the AlphaOmegaSin collection of awesome gaming stuffs.
Some of these might not be the scariest video games, or the most violent video games, or the creepiest video games, but I can assure you they kick tons of ass. So I got games ranging from SNES, Genesis, PS1, Wii, Gamecube, DS, PS3, and XBOX 360 so you'll definitely be covered.

I haven't played PE2, only played PE1, and The 3rd birthday. It looks like RE to me. Does it kinda play like it too with tank controls? It's funny how the gameplay changed with each new entry to the series. They all play very different from each other.

it just lacks in everything, the gameplay lacks for survival horror, there are stupid enemies and sections, the music isnt so great as the first, the story is not so nice like its predecessor etc. etc. etc. it lacks in everything compared to the first one. the survival horror aspect didnt fit.

Parasite Eve is so awesome mostly because the book it was based off of was pretty good- the science was fairly well researched, which made immersion that much better. Its evolution theme has this sort-of spiritual vibe that works.

Sweet, with the inclusion of "Alice", I think I'll check out the others. Heard that The Wolf Among Us is great, and Rule of Rose seems to suit my style. Since you like "Alice", I recommend to you The Path. It's a psychological horror game and is only $10 on Steam. Also, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is always an excellent choice. Shame I don't know too many other games like the ones I've mentioned. You?

Odium AKA Gorky 17, you can get it on Steam right now for about a dollar. It's like turn based survival horror, you really need to ration ammo and supplies and think out battles carefully. The main characters in your party (and the game in general) kind of remind me of the UBCS/Resident Evil 3 (like Carlos, Mikhail, and Nicholai). Then you got your guest characters that come and go. It's pretty challenging and you always flip when you get to a supply crate, cause shits scarce.

Great suggestions. Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube was a superb survival horror. Loved how u went back in history to play different characters etc. The game also introduced the sanity effect. Ahead of its time. Would love to see a HD update/reboot or follow up x

Thanks for the suggestions. Dino Crises was what got me into horror survival games. Silent Hill 2 made me obsessed with the genre. It's still one of my favorite games in my collection :D I remember playing Parasite Eve as a kid. That rat part freaked me out. I still remember it til this day.

Got Shadows of the Damned and Splatterhouse. Never played SotD even though i bought it but i did play Splatterhouse and i LOVED it, but it got really difficult at the first major 'boss' which was that one armed demon thing with the club. I never ever beat that thing..so i sort of put it down. I'll think about playing it again. I think i might finally boot up SotD thanks to this video. Good call on Sweet Home. Its actually really creepy with the haunting 8-bit music. I'd also like to mention these scary games: Eternal Darkness - GameCube and the recent PT trailer if no one here has played it yet. That's the most frightening thing I've seen in forever.

Great games, dude. Props for PE and Dino Crisis. I replayed a sadly forgotten but one of my favorite PS1 games just for Halloween, called Nightmare Creatures. Ever heard of it? If not I highly recommend it, Im sure you'll find it interesting. Its a mix between a horror and a hack n slash game with really great atmosphere and neat monsters. Also Metal during boss battles. Always a plus. But controls take a little to get used to and theres a weird gimmick where you basically have to kill monsters to not die of poisoning, wich it can get frustrating, and a pretty bad boss. Check it out if you can!

Coincidentally, I just finished Doom 64 again a few days ago. Doom 64 is amazing. I love the original Dooms, don't get me wrong, but from a horror stand point they're laughable. Doom 64 on the other hand.. Play it in a dark room in the middle of the night alone. That shit still puts me on edge! It starts feeling like the game is fucking with you, like it really wants you dead. Love it! Doom 3, yawn... Doom 64 is the real Doom 3 to me. :)

I grow up with Doom 2, one of my favorite games and soundtracks of it, genre is survival horror game although of course its not scary unlike the PSX version of Doom which is actually quite scary and unsettling to play, since it has really dark horror ambient music and pitch black maps compared to the original early Doom games.

Thank you for mentioning Dino Crisis. I always enjoyed it and think it's underrated. I have to check out the Otogi games and Shadows of the Damned. Shadowgate on the NES is still the scariest game I've ever played. Uninvited too. If you want to scar someone for life, let them play either one of those when they're 7 years old.

Ah man. I never played the SNES version, but I was just playing the American Clock Tower 1 for the PS1 earlier today. That game still freaks me the fuck out today. Scissorman is just an awesome horror villain. The sound of his scissors snipping while he's chasing you down those long hallways, the sound of them getting closer and closer while you frantically look for a place to hide, it's so freakin' intense. It's definitely one of my favorite horror games.

Scare me plenty! I love to play a horror game in the dark, late at night and during a thunderstorm. RLH! Run Like Hell for the Xbox 360. Phantasmagoria for the PC. Sanity's Requiem for the Game Cube. Zombie Ate My Neighbors is hard but good. Quake 1 is scary. For a real scare, watch a horror movie, go to your game console and load your favorite horror game, take acid and hope for a bad trip and play the game non-stop.

My story was kinda different. I never played the game in my childhood but I remember this blond chick with a gun and a weird looking red thing from The 3rd Birthday's Teaser trailer back in 2008. I was like "This girl looks familiar" then when they showed flash backs from PE1 & PE2 I was like "! I remember this game!" So I started watching playthroughs of PE1 and I brought the 3rd Birthday in 2011. I eventually brought PE1 on PSN. Now i'm in love with the series and can't wait for them to make the next game.

A game that I found to be very underrated last gen was Darkness.It's a dark modern crime drama and supernatural horror.It's based off of the comic and you play as Jackie Estacado .It's a dynamic first person shooter that allow you to call upon the forces of the evil underworld as they fight in gritty, urban environments. you are stronger in the dark and you use the darkness,they tear people's heads off and eat their hearts,you can also summon minions to help you and the story is really good.

Honestly though I recently got hooked again on Zelda Ocarina of Time, playing it on my android device, and am finding it hard atm to play anything else, even if it is Halloween lol.

I absolutely adore the Clock Tower series (although 2 and 3 were kinda off). I love the 'I can't even fight back, I have to run away' idea. But definitely I love 'Haunting Ground' the most. It's definitely one of my favourite games, maybe even my most favourite out of any game I own. I don't know why I love it so much. I just think it was an amazing game. Not to mention Daniella was the best stalker in the entire game.
