A spot of Porthcawl Sea Fishing at Merthyr Mawr Beach which is next to Newton Beach/Newton Point, which is another very popular South Wales Sea Fishing spot. I used to fish this beach when I was a lot younger and it was nice to go back. Not that far from the River Ogmore, this place is one of my favourite UK Shore Fishing marks!
Thank you for watching, it is very much appreciated.

Recently found your channel, I must say your no nonsense approach is great! You’ve inspired me to get back into sea fishing again. I’m familiar with most of your marks but really looking forward to trying some of the others that aren’t so familiar etc. It must have been Amazing to have a dad who was also keen on fishing as none of my family were interested. However back in the day I’d catch a fair few fish had the pleasure of my mum cooking and sharing on a regular fish Friday. I called to Jackson’s bay with my dog today but not sure how to get to the White House?? I walked down the path not through the boat yard. It look a dangerous swinging around the fence!! Is there another way. Just an idea could you incorporated into your video a quick route from where you park your car. Look forward to your future videos. Rod.
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rod, many thanks for your comment, much appreciated and I'm pleased to hear that you're getting back into it again. Yes I guess I was lucky having a dad who taught me to fish, he's no longer with us unfortunately but I have plenty of special memories. That's great that your mum used to cook the fish, I bet they tasted fantastic! As for Jackson's Bay, I always parked along Redbrink Crescent but in July of this year, the council made it a residential parking zone and so now I park in one of the carparks. Good point you made about showing where to park, would be useful I think. Yeah access to the Breakwater at Jackson's is not easy, with having to walk around the railings. The land is owned by the Association of British Ports and fishing is allowed off there as I contacted them a while ago. If you're not comfortable with walking around the railings, you can fish the other side of the beach on the flatter rocks or even off the beach during the quieter winter months when there's less people about. Thank you for watching and I hope you manage to wet a line soon. Cheers 👍👍

@riversidewithme 2 жыл бұрын
@@gary-dn4uw Apparently the car park at Ogmore now gets locked at 8pm and so I didn't want to risk it as I finished fishing around 8:15pm. May have been a slightly quicker walk but not by much. The one at Newton is locked at 9pm, although speaking to the car park attendant there, he said they don't lock it much in winter.

Hi mate looking for some info for goldcliff where do you park & how far to walk & how do you fish the tides etc please 12.6 height tide on sunday Regards Gary 🐟👍
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme 2 жыл бұрын
@@gary-dn4uw Hi Gary. Firstly, you park on the road next to the Seawall Tearooms, plenty of parking available all the way up the road and you just walk up the steps and on to the seawall. It's a big tide on Sunday and there will be a strong current at Goldcliff and so keep away from the points as you will struggle to hold bottom. Personally, I never fish Goldcliff on big tides because of the current but if you fish it Sunday, fish the main bay, immediately to the left of the steps and use a 7oz gripper as even at that spot, there will be a rip. Hope that helps

I used to go sea fishing when I was a kid but haven't for about 40 years but I'm really enjoying watching your videos. The are very well presented and put together. One question, what's a bluey?

Thanks Mark, pleased to hear you're enjoying the videos. Bluey is another name for Pacific Saury, which is a slim, streamlined fish. It's very oily and gives off good scent and is a great bait. I bet the fishing was great when you were a kid, a few more fish in the sea then. Cheers for watching 👍👍

Reminds me why I don't bother fishing anymore as that's what u get doggies and poor man's cod. I did get some double figure bass but I tell you what 'There's a lot of water between each fish'. P.s.if I were too go fishing it would be low water and I would pick max 5 peelers velvet crab if possible or larger edible red crab on the last hour as the XL tide was going out and only carrying in my bum bag a few size 4- 5 hooks beads some old spark plugs and some wool .A light weight bass rod and the set up is a running ledger with a spark plug as my weight tide on with the wool , sorry and some swivels and elastic. And with alot of luck with a little wind on shore or west just cast it out not far as bass can be in a couple of feet of water keep my rod tip high and keep in stealth mode not putting the rod down as if a bass hits it a big one your rods gone I can tell u .Well give it 2and a half hours and go home unless u want to wait for the tide to come inand fish off the higher ledgers. Tight lines .

Thanks for the info Jon, I'll give that a try. The fishing seems to be really quiet at the moment but hopefully it will pick up soon, lots blanking. But I want to go back to that beach mid Spring and will hopefully be a few Bass about by then, will try the crab baits that you mentioned. Cheers 👍👍

Do you catch fish to eat?

Hi Joe, these days I return the majority of fish I catch but I do keep the occasional fish for the table, especially if it's struggling to go back.
