In this video, I do a spot of sea fishing at St Brides in Newport, South Wales, which is on the Welsh side of the Bristol Channel. I spent many a weekend fishing this area with Dad when I was younger and it holds lots of special memories for me...a mark that I will fish for many years to come!
Thank you for watching, it is much appreciated!
Gareth

Well I’ve been down to the lighthouse car park dozens of times but didn’t think you could fish as it always looks so muddy. Do you walk right or left from the car park.? I’m .learning so much from your videos and especially as I’m local! Terrific work. Keep them coming 👍
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, appreciate it. Don't let the mud put you off, it's perfectly fishable. You can walk right or left, take your pick, although personally, I prefer walking to the left until you come to the first vertical groyne (rocks). When it comes to this venue, it's fishable on tides between 12.5m (10.8m new scale) and 14m (12.3m new scale). Don't fish it on anything bigger than 14m as the water comes over the top of the rocks. Nice venue, easy fishing. I always email the Lighthouse pub before I go, just to check what time they will be locking the car park 👍👍

Hi Gary, huge tide Sunday evening and at St Brides, the water will come to the top of the rocks and possibly onto the grass where you stand. So, I suggest you fish what we call The Black Pipe...you can still park at St Brides but walk down the steps and then go right until you sea the Seawall, 10 to 15 minute walk, much higher rock formation and so no issue with water level. Or you can park at the end of Outfall Lane and the fishing is right in front of you (room for a few cars) There will be a strong current anywhere at Newport on Sunday and big weights definitely needed. A 2 hook flapper rig ( size 2/0's) and a 4/0 pulley pennel rig will be fine. Good luck 👍

@@riversidewithme Hi Mate, glad I watched your video and read your comment: I was gonna try fishing St Brides for the first time this coming Tuesday (10th of May), but it seems the tide will only be around 8.5m, so you've saved me a wasted journey. Do you know if there's anywhere else close to St Brides you can fish on a smaller tide?
@riversidewithme
@riversidewithme 2 жыл бұрын
@@JT-mz5oc Hi mate, yeah too small for St Brides and you made the right call. On a tide that small, you can fish Goldcliff on the point to the left of the steps, about a 10/12 minute walk (don't fish the bay as won't be much water there). The other option is the tidal stretch of the River Usk at Newport, one of my favourite marks. You can park along Stephenson Street, walk upto the Transporter bridge and take left a through the gate onto the coastal path...just pick your spot but walk up at least 80 metres from the bridge as then the ground is clean and snag-free. This is your best bet on small tides. You can also fish off the ledges at Redwick or Farmfields, although best to do this with company as a bit dangerous on your own. Hope that helps 👍👍
