INCREDIBLE video. You really did a fantastic job breaking this down in every aspect. Loved that you brought in the extra eq as Kramer would have done in the studio. It's something I rarely think about but it makes so much sense to use an eq after your pedals (perhaps in the effects loop if there is one?) when trying to cover Jimi's live tones. I also love that you played the amp tone, amp tone plus fuzz, amp tone plus fuzz and eq AND showed the guitar volume settings. Thats definitely not talked about enough when dissecting Jimi's tones especially when using a fuzz face. Great great great video!

Great video as always!! No woder my tone sounded way off when there was a pretty big boost on the mids. Could you please do a woodstock tone video? I've heard the fuzz he used on woodstock was an octavia without the octave effect or was it the axis fuzz 🤔? Anyways great video and keep it up. Greeting form Venezuela!

@@ProChinvo I’ve never heard Roger Mayer confirming that the Axis was the Octavio without the upper octave. BOG sound was different/warmer because Jimi supposedly played another amp (JTM45/100). I’ll try to get in touch with Roger Mayer to clarify 👍

Thanks so much, Jonathan ✌️ Very good question - I missed to mention for the intro that the Fuzz is off and the guitar volume is around 8. It’s important to play it not too dynamically and keep the sweep low to mid of the treadle 🎸☮️👍🔥

I've really enjoyed this series so far and some really insightful additions that have been super helpful! All I would add is that it's a little disappointing to see you move away from real amps into more amp/cab modelling options. It that might help someone to achieve a recording tone but it helps a lot less if you want to make these sounds out loud in real life
@MikelBluni

Thanks so much for you honest feedback - this helps a lot 🙏 Be sure - I’m an all analog and live guy. The studio tones were requested by my great audience and it’s super clear that I want to deliver added value for all of my viewers 😊 As I underlined: IRs are not my thing, it was the only way though to get that speaker cab sound simulated. The RevivalDrive is an all analog preamp by the way - no modeling here 🎸 I’ve covered Jimi’s live tones extensively already, but might do some more of his early live tones throughout this year. Always depending on the gear I have at hand. Take care ✌️🎸☮️

@@MikelBluni It’d still be really cool to cover some of his studio tones, I think there’s a lot of magic in them because he probably had more options available to him for tweaking, and they’re the sounds I grew up loving! I just think using real gear and real tube amps is so so helpful to us guys trying to replicate these at home or live out loud. Do you think using your Bassman and it’s 4x10 cab with perhaps an EQ pedal for the 800hz boost would’ve made a good approximation for your Origin amp in a box simulation? I’d bet in the room there’d be no contest. I should stress this is not a negative comment by the way as I really really value your content and I wouldn’t want it to lose the magic it had, cheers

A guy mentioned the 800 KHz boost you talk about, and I don´t think you got his sarcasm 🙂 800 KHz means 800 KiloHertz and that is around the carrier wave in a MW AM radio. Young people can only hear up to 20 KHz, and many of us musicians probably more like 10 KHz. It is of course 800 Hz which is in the mid band of hearing, and a place that can lead to a nasal sound. But keep up the good work, you really do very good. (A bat can actually hear up to 110 KHz which is close to radio frequency.)

Usually, I play my Axis Fuzz that works after the Fuzz. In this case I used my Germanium Fuzz which was placed before the Wah - that’s the only way it works. It’s not 100% what Jimi did, but I always check very carefully if the sounds I present still match enough with the original 👍🎸

Nice video!! Have you ever looked into JImi Hendrix's picking technique? He does this weird thing he learned from Curtis Mayfield (one of my all time favorite artists!) where his thumb is hitting the strings also, kind of like a quiet pinch harmonic. There is a KZbin video that describes it better.

@@MikelBluni Awesome! I can do the technique, but I either have to do it or not do it, Jimi Hendrix would switch in song with his picking technique, he was doing a bunch of things, I even saw a video were he palmed the pick and played with his fingers, just like you see Chris Buck do today. It is fun but hard to dig through all the old videos, plus he never played the same song exactly the same way he was always improvising. But by using his picking technique it really makes the tone sound more like Hendrix in a big way. Do you have a Patreaon?

@@MikelBluni Yes its true he learn this Pick CHOKING trick its hitting the guitar strings with the guitar pick following with the thumb which gives a high fundamental trying to get a short scale guitar tonality. When doing the choking picking you want to avoid getting that pinch harmonic. When you mix Non-pick choking with Pick Choking using the wah wah sweeping the notes will pop in and out plus hendrix would pick on the 24fret just like frank zappa would do which I'm sure he learned this from Frank Zappa because Hendrix first wah pedal was given to by Frank Zappa because the guitarist that made the first wah pedal with Thomas Organ he would sit in Frank Zappa band there is pictures so Frank Zappa was the 2nd person to ever play the wah wah that came direct from the Thomas Organ factory because he knew the DEL CASHER guitarist/designer. So don't pick around the guitar pickups, Pick in the area from 24 fret to 22 fret when using the wah wah and make a video lesson about it. Search about Del Casher, frank Zappa showing and teaching Hendrix how to use it.
