Klon? Hendrix Klon? Hendrix studio Klon! Getting overdrive on the edge with clean chords is what we all want. Imagine if Hendrix lived a long life and developed his style and used all these new guitars, amps and effects of today!
@MikelBluni3 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I see where you come from. You can partly describe it like this, although the basic tone has nothing in common with a Klon,but it’s more than that to my understanding. This is where such demos are limited and one have to experience things oneself. I’m sure Jimi would have played a revolutionary part in the industry had he survived ✌️🎸☮️

UFTS may be a colorsound, but I have found that a fuzz face on, guitar vol low enough to have clean, glassy treble, and the vox c mcoy *after* the fuzz gets me that sound. Real heel-heavy action on the wah is the other ingredient. I don’t know how Jimi did it, but careful listening shows the same treble sound on high strings that you get using the FF, and putting that before the wah changes the shape and tone of the wah so that what I hear when I do that sounds like the studio track. Of course you have to pick/strum in a particular way and the amp shouldn’t be cranked such that you can’t get it clean enough w the FF on, but what I get that way is spot on to my ears. With a germ FF I’d set the vol pot wide open (glassier treble) and fuzz somewhere around 2/3 up. Sil FF may give that treble without need to max the vol pot. All the best!

My wah is Kyle Chase script wah and is the only one I’ve found that equals the three original ones I’ve owned. I’d think your vox will get that sound too.

Mikel, always use the gigrid battery simulator on the fuzz face, Octavia and wah make a video lesson about it. The gigrid battery simulator has an internal 10k internal battery. The newer pedals have built in filter capacitors which you would need to remove them in order for ut to work correctly. You should hear a different EQ more warmer rolled off using the battery simulator or carbon zinc
@MikelBluni3 күн бұрын
The battery is warmer overall. Sold the entire GigRig thing last week and went back to playing battery mostly for gigs again 😃✌️🎸

Hi Mikel! What do you know about Hendrix gear/gig recorded live at Scene Club 1968? That tone is amazing! Cheers from Brasil🇧🇷.
@MikelBluni3 күн бұрын
At that time the Experience was in New York recording Electric Ladyland. The club was around the corner 😀 I’ve just grabbed the cd and relistened to it…after years. Well, the Scene Club had a Backline for such sessions. The amp sounds like a dimed Twin Reverb, no pedals / no Fuzz. That amp was in 99.9% of the clubs of these days. Just my guess, but having recently played a Twin, I recognize the tone ✌️🎸

@MikelBluni I've been listening/studying this album for 30 years and I always thought it was a strat + fender amp. For me, one of the best guitar tone recorded live ever. Thanks man and keep rockin' 🎸🤘🏻

What would you recommend for base JTM 45 amp settings?
@MikelBluni3 күн бұрын
I’m using a JTM45 too, regularly, especially for early Jimi tones. I use the lower treble input, put everything on 6 except of the bass, which I put to zero or max 2. This gives the Fuzz some good room to breath and to be pushed ✌️🎸

unity when the guitar volume is on 10?
@MikelBluni8 күн бұрын
The unity refers to the relation between amp volume and fuzz volume. It doesn’t matter how your guitar’s volume is set in that case. You could turn your guitar down to 1 and the relation between amp and Fuzz would still be the same 😉

After the Voxes and Crybabys, Zakk, etc., I finally settled on the Custom Audio Electronics wah. By far the most DURABLE wah I've ever owned. But beyond that, it's very musical with its modern\vintage (inductor settings) settings and the best is the controllable boost so you don't get that darned volume\signal loss. Also very quiet.

Thanks for sharing 👍 The CAE is definitely a young classic already ✌️🎸

Ex #1 sounds like the faster "Berkeley" setting that he used for "Hey Baby". I've gotten that also by using the "Vibrato" setting. But the same Berkeley show, when he played "Hear My Train", it was definitely slower and on the "Chorus" setting. -If you're ever interested in talking about that, we can break it down to the second you hear it. But generally speaking, it's when he's coming out of his wailing solo, and breaks to the mellow point (5:15) and rolls his volume way down to where there's barely any fuzz, but it's when he's using both wah and Univibe. You can hear the Univibe especially at around 6:30. Love that! Two of the richest 'vibe shows for me is obviously "Machine Gun" #1 and amazingly, to me at least, was Maui and "Hey Baby". Thick, rich Univibe tone. Something that goes without saying but many don't realize, is how much more pronounced the effect is when you're playing loud! When I play either my half-stack (JTM45) or my old Super Reverb CRANKED, the way it bounces between the speakers and guitar just adds so much to the effect. It's crucial to get those Jimi\Trower sounds where the sympathetic feedback trails the notes - some more than others of course. Trower's "I Can't Wait Much Longer" is another overlooked great 'vibe example. We all tend to focus on the obvious "Bridge of ...".
@MikelBluni9 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing. The “loud playing” is a good aspect. I’ve played +150 Jimi Hendrix Tribute shows over the past 4.5 years and especially the festival shows where the Plexi gets pushed loud without an attenuator create that great bounce you’re talking about. I think one of the most intense and watery Uni-Vibe sounds I’ve heard of Jimi are the Shokan House takes. Some faster settings…just great for themselves ✌️🎸

Might have something to do with impedance mismatch
@MikelBluni10 күн бұрын
The impedance mismatch would take place between Wah and Fuzz (if Fuzz is put after Wah). So putting the Uni-Vibe first in line wouldn’t solve the problem. Therefore one would have to put the UniVibe between Wah and Fuzz. See what I mean? Further, if Jimi’s Fuzz housed Roger Mayers Axis Fuzz then there is no impedance mismatch between Wah and Fuzz ✌️🎸
@TheChadPad10 күн бұрын
@ Ah I see! Well, I don’t know much about these things, but I’ve heard that the impedance that a pedal sees from the one before it affects the sound. Great work on all this. I’m learning a lot. I like your V! I main a Flying V myself, so Jimi’s my hero
