The mall chase scene was filmed in the infamous Dixie Square Mall, which was only open from 1966-1978 and then stood abandoned for over 30 years after filming was complete... and the reason for so long an abandonment was that the town it was in couldn't scrape together the funds to demolish the place until about ten years ago

Who doesn't love a car chase. Nothin' like a rockem' sockem' fender bending brawl. I recall going to the theater to see the Blues Brothers and so many others. My original movie posters from these hang on the garage wall. As for classic cars..NO one gave a %%## about 99% of these vehicles. I ran a wrecking yard through most of the 80s and stacked and crushed thousands. Those Chrysler cars were worthless. Running copies were bought at sales for less than 200.00 while inops were pushed through at 35 to 50 bucks of which most were bought cored out and scraped. I do miss the 80s but I kept all my cool cars and still drive them today. Great video and good first choice.

I spotted something in a clip from Road Warrior I had not noticed before. In the one shot of the truck, you can see the stunt driver was wearing a full face helmet. The James Bond tractor-trailer driving on the left wheels was amazing. They had to heavily modified it, mostly with weights, to get it to balance. A regular truck would never do that.

My favourite car chases from the 1980s: "To live and die in L.A.", "Mad Max II" and "License to kill". "Beverly Hills Cop" had a nice chase in the beginning, but later it was more close to a comedy than to a real action movie. I would prefer the opening car chase from "Lethal Weapon 2". And "Smokey and the Bandit II" was lightyears behind the first film. Almost nothing works in that picture, not the story, not the action and not the humor. Much better: "Shakedown" (1987) from James Glickenhaus!

theres abit of a backstory to the blues brothers ontop of what is already in the movie, Richard J Daily, the guy they reference in the story a few times, was the mayor of chicago and prohibited filming in the city of chicago until just a few years before the movie came out, so by jumping over his bridge, and smashing through his building, and making reference to it, the Honorable Richard J Daily Plaza, that's where they have that PIcasso! was done purely as an F you to him for not letting people show off the city that they loved in modern film and television back then. which is part of what makes the film so endearing, its a love letter to chicago, the blues and Illinois, while also making a mockery of the idiot who wouldnt let them film there and note that outside of the two cops at the start wrongfully pulling him over for a yellow, they show respect towards the cops too, even if they do smack the crap out of every single cop car in the movie. and actually one of my favorite stories in the film was that Dank Akryod in the tunnel jump bet the stuntman he couldnt take the light off the cop car with his tire when he jumped it so every time I see that part I'm like that's where a stuntman made 400 dollars extra that day lol like its long, self indulgent and could be cut down a little to flow better, but you gotta respect it for what it is, as it was a failure for a reason, but a lovable one at that.
