We had a 1968 Montcalm ragtop growing up. My parents actually just sold it a few years ago to someone that wanted to restore it! They kept it in their attached garage since 1979 when the 302 head gasket blew. Beautiful car! Ours was gold with a black interior and black rag.

The fan shroud was primarily there for the extra cooling effect (not a big issue in Canada)the safety aspect of the shroud was not the primary reason for putting one onto a car

In my youth I had a 1967 Montclair with the 390 2V engine and the fan "shroud" in effect was just a small hood over top of the fan with an orange 'CAUTION-FAN" label affixed to it. Not a full shroud at all.

Fantastic and beautiful Canadian car Adam. My family moved from Iowa to Alberta (Medicine Hat) in 1981 when I was 14 . The first thing I noticed automobile wise, was a neighbor who had a Mercury pickup. I wondered what kind of alternate universe had we come to, as I knew nothing about the different Canadian models. Great video for my further education about these rare cars!

Beautiful car and colour, I love the painted two tone instead of a vinyl roof. I've always loved and been proud of these Canada-specific cars and trucks. Good morning from Ontario Canada🇨🇦🇧🇲😃 The nice thing about those cars is the overhang acts as a crumple zone. My grandma told me that her and my grandad and my mom, aunt, and uncles were rear ended in 1968 and the driver was "in the trunk". My mom ran for help, but the only injury was a concussion my uncle had from hitting the roof. Also, in the late 70's my dad was driving a Caprice and the same thing happened!

The 302 was quite an engine. I had a 1972 Torino with a 302, 3 on the tree, no AC, and no power... anything. Every cubic inch of that engine went to the rear wheels, and it was more than enough. Dead silent and smooth as glass. And you are so right about 4-door hardtops. I learned to drive on our 1963 Olds Super 88 Holiday sedan. No AC, but it had power windows. Very easy to drop the glass and go cruising. Great days and summer nights!

Second the 302 thoughts, really all the Ford Windsor engines. Quiet and Smooth, decent power and incredibly durable with a modicum of maintenance. I’ve seen lots of F-150s with well over 300k on them with the original engine. And in a Mustang they can be modded to deliver big power reliably and inexpensively.

Yes and yes to the smoothness of the 302 and the benefit of less weight in the nose. Sometimes, the lower optioned cars have a certain appeal that the tarted-up ones lack. I do like the little inset photos Adam uses when contrasting the car under review to the contemporaries.

I like four doors as formal cars with luxury features, but I don't like seeing a four door getting visibly 'hot rodded.' I'd want my old four door looking stock, and with a proper bench seat and column-mounted shifter, but would not be averse to putting some go-faster parts on the engine where they won't be seen by the public. I want a four door to be quiet too. A four door demands all of the dignity, according to my sensibilities.😁

We certainly did have some peculiar combinations up here in Canada. Canadian Pontiacs, Canada specific models, Canada specific brands like this one. And a lot of times, it was quite hard to tell the difference because the companies and the dealers didn't advertise it. This car looked like a Mercury and a dealer would be more than happy to let you think it was.

Five years after the signing of the Autopact agreement in 1965, the Meteor was dropped. Ford found it unnecessary since U.S. built cars were being sold in Canada and vice versa, Canadian built cars were being shipped to some US locations. Not to mention very low sales of the Meteor brand as it shared many similar equipment and options with the full sized Ford.

I love that car, especially the color. Thanks for the video. The Canadian brands are a way to get a really unique vintage car in original form without paying a premium for that uniqueness. I noticed (not surprisingly) : no A/C. It would be interesting to know what percentage of cars sold in Canada - back then and today - didn't/don't come equipped with air conditioning. Here in my part of the Midwest US I don't think you can even order a car without A/C anymore. It was common to see non-A/C cars around here up to even the '90's, but not anymore. It may be cheaper just to put that option in all cars. I may be wrong about that, but I think that's the case.

I have always wanted a Meteor of this vintage just because they are so different being a combination of Mercury and Ford. Meteors had a bit of a change between the 1949-1961 models and the 1964-1980 models. The first series was Ford bodied with Mercury style trim and in some years, used the Mercury dash. There was no Canadian Meteor in 1962-1963 due to the name being used on the Mercury Meteor intermediate offered in the US. When the Meteor returned in 1964, it was Mercury bodied but had Ford interiors, dash and wheel covers. Of course, they all used Ford engines and chassis. While the Meteor as a series was discontinued after 1976, it remained as the base series for Mercury through the 1980 model year. The Monarch is another interesting story.

Thanks Adam for another great video…I celebrate the fact that you appreciate good design and engineering regardless of how many doors the car has. On the fan shroud, the engineer in me wants to respond to your comment about “Canadians not caring around safety.” I would offer that it had more to do with cooling…based on high latitude climate, average temperatures likely don’t necessitate a shroud to enhance blade air pull through the radiator as would be needed in lower-latitude climates. This is a theory. Nice looking car…only 2000 miles!?!

The styling of this car looks so much more upscale, clean, and luxurious than the 67 Ford previously featured, with it's stacked headlights and fussy fragile looking grille. This one with horizontal lights makes it look wider, and the strong centre nose and hood sculpt, 2D grille, all much nicer and expensive looking imo. A 302 is the perfect engine, all anyone really needs, and fits so many different applications, from compact sporty cars, to pickups, to full size luxury coupes and sedans. Wish Ford would study its own history... you shouldn't have to be a rich man to afford a big, comfortable, safe, reliable car. Beautiful shade of blue, too!

The Canadian Pontiacs and Meteors are interesting to see. The Canadian GM and Ford in other countries are always interesting to see and learn about. There were many other Canadian only brands too. It is interesting how they made use of the parts and did economies of scale. I know the reason why they did this was because of some law in Canada they have long since dropped. I know the law, but it is hard to explain in detail in writing. I know about buying a car in Canada and importing it to the United States. Good video and thank you for sharing Adam.

A friend has the same colour in a convertible in great shape, in Ontario. I’ve never seen him take it out of the garage
