Olympic Footings Part 5 Pour

We pulled off the Project 150 to put in a few foundations. We'll be back to that job shortly.
This video is the 5th of a few that document the foundation process for 2 homes. These are both daylight or walk out basements. After determining grade, the excavating contractor digs down and blows out the site level. You'll see as we go, this job will have 10' poured concrete walls across the front and then step down to 2' walls in the back.
This video follows us pouring (placing) concrete in the rain. When you have schedules, sometimes you just have to grin and bear it. There is no problem pouring footing in the rain. Only the top gets soupy and that doesn't matter structurally.
Tying in the J hooks or "verts" can be tedious, but I bought these Steel Mate rebar holders. Attach them once and then just reuse them. steelmate.com/

LOVE the fastfoot system. Just did a 16 YD footing by myself with 2x4 screed boards and had great results. I had spreaders at 2' OC but stripped every other off after the pour to strike off and trowel smooth in preparation for ICF walls. I tailgated the mud rather than line pump becuase I'm cheap, and I could, and lesson learned was to tape the corners and other seams to prevent leakage from chute flow. I staked the crap out of my screeds and had overkill spreaders...without all of the extra stake driving I could have cut a day off of the process. Great system!

here in so or, i’ve never known a line pump owner who didn’t run his own hose unless he was wrenching on the pump to keep it running or cleared of plugs. drug a lot of hose though 🥵 awesome crew 🤘

11:00 Farming actually isn't really done in bad weather, in my experience. you can't seed when it's even a little wet, your packing tires start lifting the soil off the seed instead of packing it in on top, and you get shut down (the dry soil underneath will not adhere to itself, and the cohesive mud layer on top lifts off of it very easily, as compared to just uniformly damp or wet soil). You can't spray in the wet, it would wash the spray off, and it needs time on the leaves of the weeds (it's also extremely expensive, so you don't want to waste it getting rinsed off immediately). You can't combine in the wet, you would rapidly run out of drying capacity and the grain would try to heat on you. You Can SORT of till, I guess. But not well, and a lot of operations these days that I know of have dramatically cut down how much tilling they do, to conserve soil moisture. Really, farming is quite a weather dependent profession in my experience though I have never run a farm, only drove the tractors around. Maybe vegetable farming is a bit different. Probably have to wash the vegetables at some point anyways, so getting them wet won't matter. Ranching, on the other hand, is pretty merciless in terms of weather. Turns out, cows have absolutely no consideration on what the weather is going to be like 9 and a half months later when they start getting friendly. Someone should get them a farmer's almanac.

I’ve worked with lots of different concrete pumpers and have never heard of one without someone to handle the hose. Don’t love that. And amen to having more people than you need. Some guys get pissed when someone is standing around. Me, I love it. It means everything went smoothly. And if you do need some and don’t have him? Could be terrible. I include that labor in the price anyway so it’s not like I lost anything. And if you have more guys than you need the guys who are working can rotate and rest more.

This is great work! Definitely preparing me to do a concrete basement in a couple weeks once my permit gets passed (first time building my house). I have a questions if anybody wouldn't mind answering. If my plans are calling for epoxy dowels for the slab so I install that after the wall pour and drill into or do I somehow wet pour it to the foundation wall. Thanks again! I live in tacoma, WA and wish I could come by to learn from you guys.

Work in refineries no weather stops work 110° or -50° degrees Fahrenheit and up to 16 hr shifts for months 7 days a week. So you get used to working in anything .

Current project I’m doing framing on is 250,000 sqft and the slab got poured during the atmospheric river flood in bc. So I don’t think rain hurt lol.

44 degrees too cold-need to wait until 50 degrees -this is what sis wrong with current construction practices that push envelope for excessive speed-it’s not an issue of being tough but what good for the concrete cure strenth

Never wear rain gear just get wet and deal with it. Rain gear is to hot and can't get to toolbags or can't reach above head. So I just man up and get wet. Heck never even wear a coat in the Chicago winter just a sweatshirt and long underwear
