The Black American beauty shows not only what we felt was fashionable, but our hair also reflects our socio-political stances as a community as well. Not long ago, in some parts of the country, it was illegal for Black women to wear our natural hair in public. We would have to keep it covered in scarves and wraps. Then, a few decades later, the relaxer was invented and in order to assimilate and have an easier life, it became popular for us to chemically straighten our hair and wear it in styles similar to white Americans. The 70s became a turning point for us culturally and there was a widespread movement to regain pride in our blackness. Meaning, embracing our natural hair and features. It was an act of resistance following the civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s. As well as an act of self-love. Braids have always been in style for us, but the 90s definitely heightened our love and appreciation for the various styles, especially box braids. Braiding serves not only as a protective style, but the process was also a unique way for us to socialize with each other. Growing up, going to the beauty salon or braiding shop was more than just a hair appointment lol. My dad would take me, my mom, my granny, aunt and cousin to the salon and we would be there all day. No exaggeration. Lol. We picked up breakfast on the way and had lunch there. Sometimes dinner too. So, yeah. Just thought I would give some insight about the last video they watched. Our hair has always been tied to our identity and vast cultures. So it’s neat seeing that reflected on screen in a discreet way.

You both are beautiful. Hee Jae your beauty has stolen my heart. Remember there is always someone out there that will see the beauty in you. That is what USA offers.

I hope that these girls don’t think that they’re not beautiful just because they don’t fit with ideal Korean beauty standards. They are LITERALLY both gorgeous!!!😤👏🏻

Heejae has been my favorite since I started watching this channel because she’s hilarious. She can usually carry a video with her personality alone. But the dynamic between these two is so interesting. Yeonjin is definitely the dominant one, and Heejae follows off of Yeonjin’s lead.

Imma be honest, that’s what I’m always curious about “Who the HELL came with such thing beauty standard?” I know every country have their own but I just thing Asia just goes way farther than it supposed to because y’all making them girls look like plastic dolls, and those woman’s were beautiful since birth.

@Thelondonbadger you sound like an incel
@thebusybeanhomecafe40354 жыл бұрын
@Thelondonbadger Actually it was men in the beginning, telling woman what to wear and what not to wear. Even though men tell woman to have less makeup is because the do want to see more natural beauty and more flaws. But woman are now considered in love with themselves if they put on a lot of makeup. I often hear guys saying it's unattractive when girls wear a lot of makeup, where before that guys were telling girls to cover their heels, wear makeup etc...

The so-called "beauty standards" are cultural inventions of a few leaders of the fashion market and are followed by fashion professionals (make-up artists, hairdressers, couturiers, etc) and by women. We men let ourselves be carried away by the "natural standards" that reside at the bottom of the nervous system and configured by the genes, in turn modified by the laws of evolution. Thanks to this, a woman is beautiful even if the "leaders" of fashion say she is thin or fat, and a beautiful woman is beautiful anywhere, in her homeland or on the other side of the world. And this is valid for the last 200,000 years for sure. By the way, the girls in the video are very pretty.
