I witnessed a very sweet proposal at a wedding. You know when, after the important part, the bride turns around and throws her bouquet? Well, she did that after the ceremony outside the church and didn't turn around but threw it towards one of her bridesmaids directly, with the other bridesmaids making sure the girl that was supposed to get it was the one to catch it (since the one to catch it is assumed to be the one who'll get married next). Then that bridesmaid's boyfriend proposed. It was obvious that at least the bride and bridesmaids knew what was going to happen (and I found out later that he had asked his gf before whether she wanted to marry him since a no would have ruined the wedding). So there are appropriate, sensible ways to make a really lovely proposal during a wedding. But...those proposals in the video were definitely not the sensible kind.
@boanoah6362 Жыл бұрын
It's okay to make a proposal if you check with the people getting married, couples can give their blessings as they choose and that's the important part, respecting the couple and their choice. It's like showing up to someone's wedding and midway through getting up and driving go karts through the venue because you felt like it, it's just a scummy thing to do when someone invites you to an important ceremony. Respect is super important.

My father attended a wedding where there was nothing. This was an empty friends house, that would be fixed by a wedding coordinator. And not a single vendor showed up. No tables, chairs, food nothing. Guests ran to the store to buy food, plates, napkins and knocked on doors and people were lending chairs, tables, etc. Obviously a lawsuit happened but it was traumatic for the bride, as she had no relatives and planned everything herself. This happened 30 yrs ago. Her daughter is getting married and she has been checking everything a thousand times and being a MOB-zilla of legendary proportions. No one blames her.

That wedding venue from hell story was on another level. I worked as a secretary for a historic venue a lot of people used for their weddings. When I started handling lots of very valid complaints that were the fault of the horribly fraudulent management at the venue, it was eye opening and soul-crushing what my employer was willing to put people through without remorse. I quit. And I have spent YEARS warning people not to hold their events there. It weighed on my sense of self even to have ever WORKED for them.
@sarahprince24122 жыл бұрын
You should have told the people to document everything and sue the place if the venue ever did shady shit as you put it besides warning the guests not to hold events there. We spent $5000 on our wedding, had 50 people in attendance, I traded my services (I had a housekeeping business at the time) in exchange for renting housing at the lake so my family that was coming from out of town could join and not worry about accommodations. I bought all my decor rented tables and chairs, had friends make a playlist, and had the taco truck cater the food. That was 5 years ago and people still talk about how much fun they had and how beautiful it all was. The more money you spend I think the more stress you put on yourselves, on your family, on your friends. We had been married for a few years and one of our acquaintances was involved with a woman who "FORBADE" him from seeing his children by a previous marriage. FORBADE him??? Are you kidding me? I immediately had a heart to heart talk with my husband and I said, "Look, I want you to see your sons any time you want to see them. If things break down between the two of them and myself and I just can't stand to be around them, I hope you will have enough backbone to tell me to go shopping or something because they ARE going to come and see you! Do not EVER let me stop you from seeing your children." Fortunately, things never got bad between us so my husband was not forced to take that stand but I certainly hope he would have had enough spine to tell me to take a long walk on a short pier because he had every intention of maintaining a relationship with his now grown sons. I absolutely do not "get" how any woman could be insecure enough and stupid enough to dictate to her husband that he not be allowed to see his children and if a woman ever makes her husband choose between his children and her, i HOPE he chooses his children.

My wedding was under $2000. But this was in the 80s. My daughter wedding was in Vegas so we had travel costs but still under $5000 for 4 people. We hadn't been on vacation in years so we usually don't count the trip as wedding expenses But their reception was with both families pitching in together just under $3,500. I cooked and we had a decent DJ and full bar it was a blast. So far my sons wedding I'm not 100% sure as my soon to be daughters family is taking care of most of it. We are paying for grooms cakes(cupcakes for the win) and rehearsal dinner. Plus we are buying my son a suit as they don't want tux. But so far its under $1000 for us. You can have such a lovely time on a budget that it baffles the hell out of me all these "zillas" in weddings(mom/bride/groom etc..)go so bonkers. My parents told me any money not spent on the wedding could go towards a house. We took them up on that. My folks and hubs folks paid for all the main meat courses, and alcohol, got to love family that knows how to do a good smoked hog roast, and my beloved aunties and uncles all provided the side dishes. It was the best party in a long time. Plus we still live in our home. 33 years later.. we had $3000 to put as down payment. Didn't some study come out about the cost of weddings vs how long they lasted? Like cheaper weddings lasted longer than big money weddings? I'd love to read that report lol

In reallity is a pretty complicated situation. Yes, that shows that he has character but other than that it is really complicated. So he has no biological or legal connection to the kids. From the comment we know that he was not married to the woman with the kids ( they were just boyfriend and girlfriend). We also know that the father is in the picture (either they got back together or at the very least he cares for his kids). We also do not know how long he was in their lives. Now lets go to the current situation. He is getting married to a woman. They probably will have kids, thus their own family. Will he still consider the ex-girlfriend's kids as his own, because of some amount of time he was in their lives? Can the kids consider him to be their ex-step dad? Can they ask of him all the things that a dad should provide to his kids? Lets put ourselves to the soon to be wife position. Her soon to be husband and maybe father of her kids has a realtionship with the kids of his ex-girlfriend and consequently with the ex-girlfriend herself. Of course she will feel threatened, not because they are teenage girls but because they can be part of her life (ex-girlfriend and her kids). Her husband might consider them his own kids, thus wanting to be there for them. They are not his kids biologically. They are not his kids legaly, since he did not married their mother or recognise them by law as his kids. He is just the ex-boyfriend of the kids mother. That is a really big issue for her. It is not something simple, that you can say ''this heartless bitch, doesn't want 2 teenage girls in her wedding''.

The fact that we accept our enemies to dictate what we do is they throw some vague threat is really pathetic

Speaking as a parent and also having been a bride 22 yrs ago, parents are under no obligation to fund the wedding… if they want to gift you something, accept it and move on. Weddings have become so out of hand it’s ridiculous….

My wedding cost about $1200, including dress, food, flowers, all that junk. In the end, that worked out to about $100 for each year we ended up staying married. In that way, I do believe that I overspent.

When I was in my early twenties, my mother told me that she would be livid with me if I ever got married because I'm a lesbian and it goes against her values. She's grown a lot as a person since then and doesn't seem to hold some of those same beliefs any more. Still, I plan on saving up to pay for everything myself if I ever do get married. Besides, I personally don't care that much about pomp and circumstance so the ceremony would be mostly for my future wife's benefit.

I’m 34, lesbian, and my parents always told me years ago that if I ever got married they wouldn’t be attending as it’s against their values. It was always more my dad than my mum, but they have also both grown as people over the years. They both love my partner of 5 years and consider her family! Most recently my dad said about how trans people are just regular people and would be welcome in his house, which is an absolutely monolithic thing for him to say and genuinely mean. Neither of them have said anything about whether they would now attend my wedding if I were to have one, but I think they would. Your mother probably would also ☺️
