The thing about guests/wedding party having tattoos, or facial hair, being overweight, etc. is that those are your friends and family. They look like that. Why would you want photos of them looking fake? I had glasses in high school, and the photographer wanted me to take them off for my senior portraits. My mom said no, because that's what I looked like in high school, and she wants to have the memory...

Seriously, I cannot understand that! It is so crazy what's going on especially in the US when it comes to weddings. And of course at least half of them end up in divorces for a reason. We lost a very dear friend of ours a couple years ago because of health problems from being very overweight and we are so happy to have him in our wedding photos, our children's christening photos and just photos in general. We kept searching for his photos after his passing, wanting to remember him as he was and as we loved him.

@goldengryphon
@goldengryphon 3 жыл бұрын
@@chelsied.8691 It depends a lot on the people involved. You (as a person getting married) need to understand that the wedding is just 1 day. You're basically throwing a party for yourselves to celebrate your union. If you only see a bride focused on herself, and demanding everything to "make her dream wedding come true", she's a narcissist and her groom is not going to be able to make her happy (Bam! Divorce-ville). If you approach it as the first step to a life together, and actually think about what happens after someone takes the last slice of cake, you have a better chance of a long term relationship. Even more so if you've talked about the "what happens next" part of a good relationship.

@@goldengryphon you said everything. My wedding was very simple and my wedding party was also made of very simple people (as in, no one had a lot of money, including me and my husband). So when we invited the bridesmaids and groomsmen we made no demands. Everyone could wear the dress they wanted, the suit they wanted, because I knew some of them could not afford getting matching attire. We were a colorful bunch, lol. But to me it was beautiful because it was full of the people I loved the most and we had the best time celebrating.

regarding the lady in the purple: It's extremely inconsiderate to not dress appropriately if you attend a wedding where you are not a guest. Such as, I've been to many weddings, and the photographers, DJs, catering, and venue personnel always dress appropriately for the occasion. The woman in the purple top should have worn something suitable for the event she was attending even though she was not a guest.

I used to work at a mall close to one of the jewelry stores. A guy used to come in to look at one engagement ring. He loved that thing a really wanted to buy it for his girlfriend to propose so he was saving up. He kept coming for several months so after that time pretty much everyone knew who he was and why was he there. He was such a kind soul and all the staff adored him. Then his big day came and he bought the ring. He was so happy to the point of almost crying. Everyone wished him all the best with his proposal. He got literally dragged back in the next day by his girlfriend who didn’t like the ring because “the diamond wasn’t good enough”. She made him exchange the ring and was already talking about diamond upgrade before they even left the store. If looks could kill, she would be dead many times over. We all felt so bad for him.

My exact thoughts.... A bunch of drunk people with loaded weapons. I've experienced a drunk person take off their jacket and drop their gun because they accidentally forgot to secure the holster strap. The possibility of this happening several times...terrifies me. And before it's assumed, I personally like guns and most projectile weapons. I just have enough respect for them to not handle or let someone handle them when there's alcohol involved.

I personally don't like massive tattoos all over the body. I mean, what's the point, if you have to stare at people to figure out, what the tattoo is. I wouldn't force anyone to cover them unless they're offending.At the same time, I can understand people, who would. One of my friends has a really terrible tattoo, that she's saving money for to fix. It looks like a three year old drew on her. Or like I said, if the tattoo is offending. Some people have old tattoos from their past in gangs or other groups. I wouldn't want their tattoos to be seen at my wedding.

When my husband and I were dating, I saw a nice ring in a shop window. I showed it to him at the time. Months later we started talking about getting married and I looked at photos of rings with him. When he proposed it was with that ring I saw originally in the window. He told me he bought it the next day. But he was nervous to give it to me because I had shown him other pictures. Personal I think the person that wants to get engaged at another person’s wedding is looking to take the moment away from the bride. When I found out I was expecting my third child my husband wanted to tell everyone, I asked him to wait because another family member was due to have their first baby in two months and I felt like it was their moment. A few weeks after they had their baby we told everyone and was met with shock. Everyone asked why we waited until I was four months along to tell everyone. I said it just wasn’t right to take the moment away from them, after all it was their first pregnancy. Everyone was like wow that was so nice of you. I absolutely agree. I think it's different if you ask the bride and groom if it's okay with them, but otherwise, you are essentially co-opting their wedding as your engagement party. They paid for food, photography, the venue, etc. and it's incredibly rude to take advantage of that for your special moment. I mean, just imagine if the girl says no. You would have just made someone else's big event awkward because of your selfishness. If anything, it says the person proposing is cheap - since they can't be bothered to figure out a romantic place to propose on their own. This is especially true if you expect their photographers to take photos of your engagement for you. We got a discounted rate with a family friend for our wedding, and still had to pay like $3000. If you want to get engaged at my wedding, you better be covering the hour or so onwards that my event became about you.

When I went back into education for a short fashion design degree, one day during break a classmate posed a question to the group (all women in their 20s/30s): "If your boyfriend couldn't afford your dream ring, would you rather him buy like a cheap ring, like 1000 or whatever, until he could afford your dream ring, or would you rather wait until he saved up?" (I don't remember the number she said but it was something that for me was a lot to spend on a ring let alone a "temporary" ring). I was astonished. I said something like, I'd rather no ring if that was the situation because I care about being with the person. There are ways to style a dress that might be only borderline appropriate for attending a wedding. Wearing a dress that makes it look like you walked out of the wedding dress side of David’s bridal is a deliberate decision and tacky in the extreme. I could see a white dress being borderline ok if it’s styled with accessories that break up the all white look. A colorful jacket, a belt, etc. Looking bridal at someone else’s wedding is just not ok. Never ok.

thats different, it wasn't all white. i wore a dress that had white around the bottom but it had different shades of pink flowers with big white spots. i showed my niece and she was like, oh i like that. so i wore it to her wedding. having a bit of white is ok, its when you're wearing an all white dress, no other colors that people might be confused and brides get mad. also usually if you're a kid it's ok, flower girls often wear white dresses. you weren't a flower girl but the embroidered flowers and jacket make it clear you weren't the bride.

According to Gottsman, bridesmaids should be prepared to cover the costs for these expenses once they accept the offer. That being said, it's the bride's responsibility to let everyone know about all upcoming financial responsibilities from the get-go, and bridesmaids should be honest and upfront if they'll be under a monetary strain.” That’s why they’re asked to accept the invitation to be a bridesmaid. My bridesmaids only spent $100 on their dresses and I allowed them to do their own hair and makeup and wear their own shoes. I don't understand why an engagement at a wedding is seen as bad in the US. Here, the bride literally throws her bouquet of flowers for all the girls to catch and the superstition is that whoever catches it will marry next. If that girl would get an instant proposal from her boyfriend, it would make that wedding unforgettable. Extra points if all the other girls and bride are in on it and deliberately don't catch / throw in a way that the girl getting the proposal ends up catching it. *That* would be the wedding people still talk about 30 years later. And if you're still friends at that time, you might even have an anniversary party together. Yes, you'd have to share the moment with someone else for a bit but you'd also gain in that your party would be unforgettable. People forget how good the food, the cake, or the dress really were after a couple weeks. It's stuff like this - the human stories - that will be remembered for decades. That's also why drama at such an even is so bad. Like, if your drunk granny hits your uncle over the head, that's going to be remembered *forever*. So, why not instead try for something good to happen at your wedding that makes it different from all the other weddings?

Sure, the bride and groom are the most important people, so don't be that nasty stepmother who shows up in something that looks like another wedding dress. I think it's better to make the whole affair a bit more frugal and fun instead of oh, I paid so much money, now I have to be the superstar, even at the expense of having an actual good time.

Nothing matters, you can come with a mohawk, on a motorcycle in all leather, it doesn't matter. They really just come to get drunk and usually the bride and groom are the only ones wearing something nice and getting the most drunk and having a blast. It's not super expensive and they're super fun weddings. We all usuallly know each other and we all just like to party together.....tattoos and piercings galore. I will say this though, I worked with a girl who had a goth wedding (btw she is the nicest girl you will ever meet in your life she is Pollyanna goth) and she told me she was super upset because somebody wore a Halloween costume to her wedding instead of actually being goth......(oh my! Lol) they were just a guest! Lol they weren't even part of the party. I didn't understand why it mattered. On another note can you imagine being the girl wearing the Halloween costume while everybody else is all decked out and true goth manner (gasp!!) The sheer embarrassment of it all!!!! She had better have brought a really good gift....like some black and white striped nylons or something really cool like that......just saying.

@@benjalucian1515 glad you were happy with your ring....I ended up wishing I had let him pick it instead of me....he has more taste than I do. Also nifty that you liked it enough to want to keep it regardless. And awesome that you wish him well...hope I the best for you in your life also.

Before meeting my hubby, I had been dating someone at work. The coworker and I both got engaged around the same time and our workplace threw us a party. We ended up cutting a cake together. Awkward - but not as awkward as posing in each other's engagement photos.

I have been to multiple weddings here in Europe, North & South...only criteria? only the bride wears white ..other than that, anything goes! As no one would consider arriving in anything, but presentable clothing 🤔 hello from Denmark 🌸🌱

Yeah that's pretty much the same for the United States for the normal people.

well I've been to 1 wedding where the MIL of the bride wore a beautiful blue gown for the ceremony and most of the party, but then changed into a white dress afterwards.. it wasn't bridal per se, more like a summer dress type, but because it was white, if someone liked something simple, it could've passed for a wedding dress too..... sooo... yeah... but nobody took issue with that, because it happened kinda at the "halftime" of the party, when most of the guests changed into more comfortable clothing to be able to dance and stuff.

When my sisters married, I wore jeans and a nice blouse. I was a bridesmaid and maid of honor, lol. We had fun.

@@m0t0b33 In Poland most brides changes into white, but more comfortable dress after first dance. That's why ANY white dress is reserved for the bride.

I had a funny cake topper of the bride dragging the groom, it was funny and we all loved it! It showed we didn't take thing too seriously even though it was a wedding. We have been married for going on 16 years and we are still not taking things to seriously.

lol. She was having a hard time remembering the word corsage and I was saying it in a fancy posh voice. Then she was like 'you guys are probably yelling it at me.' And still in the voice I say 'I was yelling just repeating.' I wish I had it recorded lol.

Yooo if employers and jobs can be more accepting of tattoos then bridezilla need to chill the hell out. As long as they aren't vulgar or rude, relax 🤣

See, this is how Maids of Honor are failing. In a Monster-in-law wedding kit, there needs to be ink or runny shoe polish to ruin that MIL’s white dress. Ink down the front, because in the back it can be covered up. Wine is also convenient and efficient. Simple. 😉😆🤫

Nightmare wedding story time: My cousin’s wedding was about 2 years ago and my mom took me dress shopping about a week earlier. For the life of me, we couldn’t find a single thing that fit me (I’m very skinny and my skinny curves are out of place where I’m from). We were at the final store and my mom shoved a bunch of dressed into my arms to go try on. Only one dress fit (and really well) and it was white. I reluctantly came out of the dressing room to show my mom, whining I’m uncomfortable wearing it to a wedding and that I wish it were black or any other colour (in my country, we don’t wear black to funerals btw). She assured we’d get the colour sorted and I assumed she meant it would be dyed (cause I’m dumb and don’t know anything that’s to do with fabrics ). Turns out, she was going to add sparkles and sequins to it MAKING IT WORSE. I was horrified. But we’ve already bought the dress, I had nothing else and I felt guilty about the money she’d spent (we aren’t well off). I’m brown btw so it’s not like I could bite back either. My mom tried so hard to convince me it was okay to wear white - asking the tailor in front of me and even the future bride herself. Of course they said it’s okay to my face. But I wasn’t persuaded at all. The day comes and I feel horrible. Thankfully, no one at the entire wedding says anything. But I swear I felt them think it. A year goes by and I’m completely over it - bygones and all. Until my cousin’s sister makes a snide comment in the middle of a completely unrelated conversation - ‘who even wears white to a wedding’. I’m never living this down

I do honestly feel bad for your situation. That being said...now you know that it was a poor decision to go along with it just to shut your mom up. Don't wear white to someone's wedding. Ever.

At my wedding, my God fathers wife came in a white short dress... while my husband female cousin came in a jeans and a tshirt.. if I have to choose, I would prefer someone who is not in the wedding party to come in white than in a casual look. You were a cousin, don't worry about it.

My mother in law did something similar at my brother in law's wedding. I was a broke college student and she volunteered to take me to buy a dress and pay for it. There was a navy blue one and a white one in my size. I wanted the blue but she demanded I get the white and...she was paying for it so I couldn't do much. She mentioned off hand that I would match with her and her sisters in this "cream off white dress." I immediately went to my friend (the bride) and told her what was going on. She just kind of sighed and was like, "Yeah, she would. Not your fault."
