AWI Project Log 1: Building Militia from Perry Plastic Kits

Hi everyone. I am starting off my AWI project with some Continental militia, built primarily from the Perry Miniatures plastic Continental Infantry box set. There is a bit of kit-bashing with hats from the AWI British Line box as well as the Napoleonic British Line box to create a re-deploying firing line. This video takes a look at the Continental Infantry sprue and how I did the conversions. The conversions were inspired by the Perry brothers themselves, who did this for a Concord and Lexington game that can be viewed on their Facebook page. Thanks for watching.

I have seen a few videos on electronic pin vices and was wondered what your thoughts on them was . I have some victrix models that have standards and spears and they are very flimsy and I wanted to change them out. I do not even know where to start. I remember pinning parts together with a crappy pin vice back in the late ninety finding bits was hard and the tool wasn't very good. advice on this would be very helpful as well as a source for the shafts and a good pin vice

I actually use a hand-powered GW pin vice I bought back in the 90s... I use 1mm cobalt drill bits in it. I think the KZbin user Scruffy Crow did a video where he used the powered Tamiya hand drill for drilling out hands.

Good work - I'm looking forward to seeing your project develop. It's a shame that the Perrys didn't release plastic militia with a greater diversity of kit (I remember there being some rumours at the time they might) as the Wargames Factory (now Warlord) militia is great in concept but not execution. They have great looking militia in metal for the northern and southern campaigns but it's a bit annoying if you need a sizable quantity of militia. I have seen others use heads from the WGF plastic militia to diversify the Perrys plastic Continentals and I'm tempted to do so too.

I have some of the Northern Militia command in metal from the Perrys to lead this lot. I'm not made of money so plastics have to form the bulk of the militia! I might have some bits from the Warlord militia from an old project that could go into the mix.
