Maybe Vallejo one day. AK Interactive are not going to appear though. Using imagery from the Holocaust in an advertising campaign for a book was unconscionable.

Isn't the tiny bottle of "Wash Medium" really just a flow improver? I buy large bottles of artist flow improver for allot less than those tiny bottles.
@CullodenPaintingStudio8 күн бұрын
A big bottle of flow improver probably does the job just as well. Thought testing the branded stuff was the most fair way of doing the test.

This is a great video, when I have time I need to give it a proper watch. I’ve been experimenting with citadels new vs old formula verse Duncan Rhodes washes. I have a bottle of strong tone I’ve never really tried and didn’t realize they also changed their formula ? Lots to sift through, and it’s hard to pick a ‘best’ because they can be applied for different reasons to get different desired results. But some are better than others for each task! Thanks
@CullodenPaintingStudio9 күн бұрын
Glad you like the video. There are loads of applications for the shades or washes, and while there probably is a "best" product for each job it's a lot of work to find it. I think that the filter effect that the GW shades gives could be very appropriate for dirtier finishes for example. I haven't handled any of the Two Thin Coats range yet so may need to look out for them myself.
@legiox2179 күн бұрын
@@CullodenPaintingStudio the Duncan washes are very nice imo, they’re most comparable to the original citadel washes in that they tint extremely well so give great bits of shadows to work with. Battle Mud Wash for example is the agrax earth shade equivalent and I prefer it to old citadel currently. It looks a bit murky on the palette, but I think is because it has a drop of matte medium in it because it dries so matte.
@CullodenPaintingStudio9 күн бұрын
@@legiox217 that's good to know. Maybe I will seek them out for a video at some point.
@legiox2179 күн бұрын
@@CullodenPaintingStudio I am keen to compare them to the army painter versions now haha. They were so much stronger than the new citadel washes that it made my new formula citadel washes seem like they had no pigmentation… they do flow nicely into recesses but when you need to stain or tint something the new citadels aren’t great at all for me, though I hear applying two coats gets a similar effect. I have the “old” dark tone I believe …so I guess I need to grab a bottle of the new one now.

I think the barn is a good kit but the church is just overdone by Renedra. Something shabby but not about to fall down is much more useful than something that looks like it would collapse if you leant against it.

That's true. I picked it up for it's gothic horror look as there's a solo scenario that needs a church. I reckoned it fit the bill for that perfectly.

I felt they were different as well, but chalked it up to the likely massive difference in age of the bottles. I have no idea when my old tones were made while the fanatics are likely less than a year out of the factory.
@CullodenPaintingStudioАй бұрын
Yeah, that's something I can't be sure of with the test. Maybe I should re-test with the "new" ones in a couple of years and compare to see if there is degradation.

AP: Our washes are excatcly the same formula as before Every youyuber i follow: Tests and discovers a difference between them...
@CullodenPaintingStudioАй бұрын
The one caveat to the whole test is that the wash in my older bottles will not have the exact balance of pigment and medium that they did when factory fresh. I might keep an eye on the results with the "new" bottles and report back if things get blotchier with age.
@PhoenikuzАй бұрын
Thanks for this! Apparently, Army Painter keeps insisting that they've made no changes to their formular for the washes... even though they do behave different now, as you said at the end.
@CullodenPaintingStudioАй бұрын
The one thing I can't be sure is the effect of use and time on the pigments and medium in the old bottles. But, the new Sepia and Rust tones provide much more of an overall tint than any of the others. Seems a different formula with those for sure.
@Bunyip_StudiosАй бұрын
Looking to do the same thing, my old tones are getting on a bit now. With the old tones I just used matt medium from Hobbycraft, along with a little water. It worked fine, likely to do the same with the new tones
