I remember being around a group of young bethel/pioneer guys and it was almost an unspoken joke about anything that you "weren't" supposed to do. A guy a few years older than me pretended to chastise me for admitting that I'd watched ghostbusters. I once asked a young elder, ("in good standing") single, never married, and in his early 30's. After many, many hours I asked him "Unless I assume something wild, am I to believe that because you've never been married that you will continue to remain a virgin - or rather that you never "give in"? Another elder story, different elder from the "beads" story. We were around 12, and had acquired a Playboy centerfold torn from a magazine. I'd smuggled it to my friends' house, the elder's kids, and we looked at it and then hid it under an old hubcap that was laying in their yard while we went off to play. Their dad, the elder, had seen us acting kind of strange over there and he went to check out the hubcap. When we came back for it later, it was gone, and we freaked out, but just thought something just ran off with it, never suspected we'd been caught. So, I left eventually, and that night their dad questioned them about what we had been up to in the yard. "Oh, we just had a picture." "Really, what was it of?" "I don't know." "Oh, because I thought it was a picture of the Lone Ranger. All I saw was tiddy- rump-tiddy-rump-tiddy-rump." He of course told them they shouldn't have things like that, but that was the end of it. We laughed about that for many years. That was an appropriate reaction by an elder and a father for the "crime" that had been committed. He was a good dude.

We still do experience hormonal sexual urges, just not in an attraction form. If they all followed these strict rules of confession there would be little to none "in good standing." Most are in fear of God's Judgement hoping and praying they can somehow get away with this normal behavior kept in secret until "God's Day." Waiting final judgement whether they are a sheep or a goat. So you have those that are being openly honest following "the rules" and those secretly hiding not obeying "the rules." Those in secret not obeying "the rules" are given more privileges in the congregation and thus are removing the openly honest ones because a rule book tells them so.. For me it basically boiled down to I'd rather be a lowly disfellowshipped person instead of being a pompous hypocrite judging others. Our fates are the same in "the end" regardless. Why torture myself into depression and insanity? You have to play smoke and mirrors to thrive in this organization and hope you have God's Favor. Was in it for 30 some years.
