Interesting fact for those who might not know this, but Robin Williams actually fought HARD for the film's ending. It was originally supposed to end with Daniel (Robin Williams) and Miranda (Sally Field) reconciling their differences and getting back together. But while making the movie, Robin Williams himself was going through a pretty nasty divorce (with 2 children), and he thought it was important for the movie's ending to be as realistic as possible to relay a bittersweet message of hope for families who were or may be going through this type of distressing and life-changing situation. It's hearing little things like that which IMO which really demonstrate what a wonderful soul Robin Williams truly was.

Well i think the studio liked that they could recast him instead of firing him. They were after all going to can the show... I do know that many places are notorious for firing people, but at the same time we often forget that a lot of places, probably most places, also really dread the idea of having to fire people, especially when it's related to non-personal reasons like for example budget. Ofc. firing someone you don't get along with or even know is relatively easy, but at most workplaces you end up becoming friends with the people working there and then firing someone become a lot harder and sometimes even painful, even if it's the best logical decision.

"Don't Rain on My Parade" is from _Funny Girl,_ the show that made Barbra Streisand a star. Some younger folks, probably not depending on their parents, especially with the musical remake existing now. But, I was also including what she’s currently working on and doing. A lot of folks kind of forget that she grew up, has a career still, and for some people of a different age she might be better known for the new thing. Or, pleasantly surprised that she’s who does a voice for a character. Whether or not you enjoy that content is up to you. But even if you don’t, there’s no reason to be disparaging and dismissive about it. There’s a ton of stuff I don’t like, but I can still see why it might be worthwhile to someone else.

What’s funny to me, I have a bunch of pictures that cycle as my work computer desktop background. Many of the pictures are of my daughter. In one of them, she’s wearing a dress, has her hands on her hips, and a sassy look on her face. One of my coworkers asked me if that picture was of the actress from Matilda. I laughed and told him that no, it was my daughter. Matt Lawrence (who played the son) said that Robin was looking distressed in his trailer one day, and told him that he couldn't focus and think the way he did pre-drugs. While he'd been sober for many years, Robin warned Lawrence to never start drugs because it changed him forever and made things really hard. Lawrence said any time he was tempted, growing up in Hollywood, he remembered that moment and it helped him stay determined to never start drugs. Also, Lisa Jakub (who plays Lydia) missed too many days from school so she was expelled. Robin sent a letter trying to get the principal to reconsider. That was actually on purpose. The original draft for this movie, as I've heard it, was for them to reconcile and get back together, like every other feel good family comedy of that era. But someone, and I don't know who offhand, suggested that they actually address the fact that not every marriage fixes itself, and that there are a LOT of divorced families out there. So they retooled the ending to make it a happy but separate ending, and specifically had Mrs. Doubtfire answer that question as a direct response to the various kids they KNEW would be from a divorced family, and watching that film. So your reaction was very much the intended goal for the creators. To help confused and scared kids, try and make sense of the upheaval of their homelife, and try and make it something not so scary, and more manageable. So it's nice to hear that it worked as intended. :)

I kind of wish more movies would do this more often, to be honest. I feel like most romantic/family comedies or dramas feel the need to throw in a villainess act or new boyfriend/girlfriend in order to prove that the main leads are meant for each other. But it should be noted how nowadays how getting divorce has been taken much more seriously today, but I feel like throwing a bit of realism really helps. Especially when one of the main leads keep saying, “No, my love don’t do this. We need each other. You need me.”, yeah don’t realize that what they’re causing isn’t what their partner needs. In Daniel’s case, it really shows that he needs Miranda and the kids more than they need him.

The only moment I was really upset with Miranda was the hour early part. It was a small thing compared to the disrespect he showed her though. The frustrating irony is that if he had adopted even a quarter of the responsibilities he did as Mrs. Doubtfire before she left him they probably could have been happily married. A good loving father should never have to be taken from his children. Especially when he children love him just the same. This whole entire movie, the kids are practically begging Miranda to let them be with their dad more often but she won't budge. She's hurting, of course she's hurting but she's letting her own pain blind her to her kids pain and they're the ones who are ultimately suffering.

It broke my heart when we Robin Williams died because I never got to thank him for doing this movie. My parents had a very dysfunctional marriage. The fight scene in the beginning of the movie was what we lived at least two or three times a week. This film gave me a point of reference so that when the time came and they did finally divorce when I was 13, I wasn’t afraid of it. The world Is less fun without him. ♥️

I worked the night shift at a hospital, and we sometimes had to call one of the Doctors to clarify an order. Most of the time it was straight forward but every once in a while, we'd get one of the 'sillier' doctors. Sally Field is incredible. Her performance here is subtle but underrated, and I think the proof of that is how she almost made you cry a couple of times just by delivering her lines. That's the gift of a talented actor who can make you feel everything with just a few words and a look.

Hi Ashleigh! Animator here! In the west and most english speaking and European countries, we do the voice recording for characters first and let the timing of the dialogue dictate how characters move when we animate them. In japan, however, the animation comes first to give the animation the time it needs to do whatever movements are needed and the voice actors add the dialogue afterwards. The japanese use a stopwatch to time how long dialogue for a scene takes and alot that time while animating. Then the voice actor has to match it. Both ways have their strengths and weaknesses and neither are considered "better" than the other. I'm unsure why in this movie Robin Williams is dubbing over a cartoon like this. But it could be it's supposed to be a foreign cartoon he is dubbing into english. (however the animation for this movie was done by American animator Chuck Jones who created Bugs Bunny. So who knows.) Maybe this part of the story made more sense in the original French movie this was based on.

“Mrs. Doubtful” was actually based on a British young adult book called “Madame Doubtfire” by Anne Fine. The French TV-movie adaptation was made in 2003, eight years after the English adaptation. As for the weird cartoon dubbing in the film, the filmmakers likely did it like this for pacing and to give Robin Williams a chance to flex his vocal chops. Showing him dubbing a cartoon the regular way would’ve likely been less cinematic and less funny.

Would you happen to know anyone that would love a great screenplay? I'm releasing book one of a 6-part double trilogy this fall... really think it should be a movie, and it would require animation to do it right. The screenplay is scheduled to be created by screenwriters at Fulton and submitted to their Hollywood studio for motion picture consideration, but they don't do animation. In Smokey & the Bandit Sally Field was 16 yrs younger; in Steel Magnolias, 4 yrs younger. I remember her as Gidget & The Flying Nun in the 60s. She has one of those timeless girlish faces. Love it when you begin recognizing some of these references, like his Barbara Streisand imitation before he settled on Mrs. Doubtfire. This was a good movie for a time in America when financial strains were hurting a lot of families but honestly I can’t remember many times that wasn’t the case. Robin was acting out the shared stresses of a lot of people and injecting his humor to help people cope. That was his specialty. Great reaction Ashleigh.
