You generally need past work experience that previously worked in a Systems Administrator role Systems Engineer role to work on the Operations side in the cloud. For operations roles, cloud services is like an extension to existing sysadmin roles given that the system administrator role is evolving and expanding. A DevOps Engineer is nothing more than an Operations/System Administrator that works in an agile way that collaborates with the Dev team. They assist in the deployment and automation of the code into production as well as administer and maintain the cloud server infrastructure. Most companies operate in a hybrid environment both cloud and On-prem infrastructures. You are going to have to know both as an admin.

I am a fresher in IT and have recently completed my DevOps program, gaining a pretty decent understanding of the DevOps role. However, I didn’t get much exposure to cloud technologies during the program, as all the labs were on-premises. I recently passed the Cloud Practitioner certification and am now thinking of pursuing either DevOps in the cloud or SysOps. Which one should I choose? I already have a valid DevOps certification from another institute, but not from a cloud provider, so I would appreciate any insights. 🙏

I just dont know if there is a defined career path for aws achitect vs sys ops does. It can go from sys ops --> devops ---> developer.

Yes you would be more of a sales role, more in a solutions engineer role consulting with clients on the their best needs for their cloud infrastructure.

Thanks for the video, really interesting. Since I am interested in the architecture, I was wondering whether you think it is possible to enter the field without a degree in IT (I have a Bachelor in Business Administration) and currently working in the network consulting field (LAN/WAN/WLAN/...). Also I'm working on certifications as CompTia N+ and Sec+, with the long term goal -> Solution Architect. But I still don't know anything f.e. about databases, programming, scripting, etc. On the other hand you mentioned it's "high-level" and also a lot of social skills.
@PerezTheDev2 жыл бұрын
It is totally possible! Just requires focused study, and some grit. Keep at it! Yes solutions architecture you don't need scripting, it is more so focused on design. Understanding why we are using certain tools over others, and how to communicate that value to other business stakeholders so they understand. 🙌

Hi Cameron, thank you for reaching out! Is networking your goal? If you don’t know too that’s fine, first build some self awareness on what you want to do/enjoy doing within the tech industry. If you are saying network and infrastructure then if I were you I would go for AWS Pro cert and CCNA MINIMUM. Earning your CCNP should help get your foot in the door for interviews.
