That’s Fred Hope. Quite a good kiter and winger. I was more sold on the 899 than the wings personally. The 899 looked like a good foil.

Very interesting work you are doing with those high cambered foil sections. As an amateur foil builder, I wonder how this works out for pitch stability and controllability. Doesn't the pitching moment cause problems at higher speeds, when the center of lift moves all the way back? Do you need a larger stab to compensate? Are such foils suited for "average-skilled" foilers? 🙂

Absolutely stellar recap Rob, wish I was able to spend more time talking at the show. One of the surprises for me was the Flysurfer Tao, super light feeling, great into the wind and powerful enough for easy transition from knees to standing. (I’m a first year winger so I prioritize feel and balance) Next year come spend some time in Newport Or. before the show! Safe Travels 🙏👍
@wingmanfoilclub Жыл бұрын
Would love to! And yeah the Tao looks really good in Nathan’s hands, but I bet most wings would!

@@wingmanfoilclub Indeed, they have a great crew, Marie is so much fun. Have you ridden the Flux? Lots of praise from friends and watching Johnny on it is just a joy. Thought the AK boards looked great, loved the Duotone board colors. One thing that surprised me is l preferred the Strike V3 in 5 and 5.5 to the Swing. I generally like more power but for me the Strike had better balance in those sizes. (again I’m not as good as you yet)

It’s great to hear your thoughts and I’m sure viewers will be interested. It’s so hard for me to film everything and ride. Maybe next year I’ll recruit a few helpers and we can get their reactions

@@wingmanfoilclub That’s a great plan. I made the mistake of not using my own gear when testing so I was adjusting to everything at once, the sad part is I knew better. DOH!

nice vid! You should try the art pro's and spitfires... I"m on their 1201 a lot.. Sooo good for a big wing. Can't wait to get on a couple smaller sizes for windy days. Also very curious about the Code stuff.. Thanks for the edit!

I’d like to since that’s more of what I do. I bet we’ll be seeing a lot more AFS foils here in the US once people start trying them out. I was really impressed with the clean design.

More detail about screw length afs use 8x35mm on alpha mast, fone asc are 6x16mm, fone bamboo 6x25mm. The asc track is ultra shallow 😮.
@wingmanfoilclub Жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s stupid shallow. I was using M8 x 20mm it was bottoming out but tight (when I tightened it)

HAH! To be fair I was going out of town for a week and said you could keep the foil for a whole week. So no first ride review was necessary. :) I'll let you do a first ride review of the 1050 now if you like. Great info for the rest of the video! Watched the whole thing start to finish.

I need to finish editing a couple more videos first. More interested in trying them after talking to Kane

Love how fast the board designs change these days... we put a kick in the tail to make it easier to pump onto foil... we kept a flat rail all the way to the tail so it planes up faster now. 😆😵 Also, this explains all the California license plates in town last week... 😋
@wingmanfoilclub Жыл бұрын
Haha. I’m a vocal member of the flat is fast and weird tails are gimmicks camp.

Haha! I will say as someone that rides an “old” foil (Vyper), upgrading to a new front wing is a huge difference maker. Wing, board, mast… those can wait.

great overview!! 8LBs for a 73L board! I might need that puppy! Too bad for the sabfoil positioning, was hoping to have a good comparison to the other stuff.
@wingmanfoilclub Жыл бұрын
It’s nutty light. And when you push on the rails they don’t flex. Seems pretty darn good. But I might be able to break it too given enough time!

Really enjoyed your review, especially interested in the AFS . What weight are you and what was the wind speed when you tried the 700 . Cheers .
@wingmanfoilclub Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I’m 200 pounds. I can’t remember the wind speed but probably around 20mph with a 5.0 Blue Planet wing. It’s definitely a foil that needs some wind to get going, and it’s not going to pump and glide a big rider that well. The 1100 is much better suited to that. But if going fast and carving waves is a priority the 700 rips. I’d also like to try the 800 which has an AR of 13! If you’re looking for more low end I think the Silk have good reviews too

What did you think of the weight of the AFS foils? Were they on the heavier side or lighter side?
@wingmanfoilclub Жыл бұрын
I would say average to light maybe. I didn’t notice one way or the other really. What’s interesting is the 11 mm race mast is HEAVIER because it’s solid carbon to maintain the stiffness for the width.

Not from me this year. Their new Seek 68L looks good. They also have a new foil with some concave in it. And their wings have a pro model with updated materials I think.

So bummed to have purchased a S26 Naish Matador 5.0 and have three guys immediately tell me they didn’t have that big guy power as promoted. 😒 hello ebay…
@wingmanfoilclub Жыл бұрын
5.0 is kind of small for a big guy unless it’s fairly windy. Unfortunately I have to use a 6 meter pretty often in SoCal. But that wing might still have a place in your quiver. Only way to know is to try it out
