What a shame isn't it? Enterprise was the last good ST series and it had so much potential. You saw it in Season 4 wich felt like they desperatly tried to fit in all the story lines they had prepared for a way longer lasting series. Also they fixed or explained most of the plot holes of the other ST series. At this point in time the ST universe was perfectly explained and a greate platform for further way more exciting series and movies. And then they ruined it all with modernity nonsens.

That was not a bird of prey, I believe its meant to be a D7 or D8, maybe a K'Tinga or a Warbird, the creator took some liberties with the design choice so i'm not 100% sure what exactly it supposed to be, but definitely something from the D7 lineage. Looks fantastic nonetheless...

I LOVE the Design of the Luna TOS era class, good video😊
@Jager1967 Жыл бұрын
Can you just imagine how good the Ares class would look with a refit treatment in the style of the Enterprise in TMP/WoK? With the angled linear nacelles and the impulse engine assembly of the era. The one point of difficulty would be somehow translating the torpedo launcher into its smaller more blended engineering hull. I suppose from an aesthetic perspective, you could take the base torpedo launcher, split in half and trim it, protrude the launchers from the hull like light sconces and stagger the placement like steps on a staircase, mirrored on both sides.
@xheralt Жыл бұрын
Or maybe you don't _have_ to change the existing launchers at all? But yes, a flat nacelle refit would be awesome.

Judging by how the ship is depicted more like a "battle cruiser" rather than a Heavy Cruiser (what the Connie is usually considered) a TMP style refit doesn't really work in my opinion, not for esthetic reasons as much as story wise. You can think of it like the Defiant of her day, built for combat but compromised in all other respects as a result. In any other role it would be too cramped and lacking in scientific facilities for exploration or ironically too large and expensive to keep as a simple border patrol ship. The Constitutions were coming online (with enough of a heavy punch for the fleet), presumably the Miranda class was not that far off either (if we accept the TOS era Miranda as canon) a much more versatile ship, plus all the smaller one nacel frigates, destroyers and other weird FASA designs :) for lighter duties.

Using the shield to repel the asteroids? That is brilliant. I might be wrong but I have never seen this in any ST before. This is a top notch fan production video, like everything Axanar.
@buu88553 Жыл бұрын
It's the deflector and that is its purpose. It deflects everything all the time but we can see it when it's the asteroids. So, it's always working on star trek (except on AbramsTrek where they shoot things in their path, presumably coz the new generation doesn't care much about the science of space travel). Sometimes, they talk about the deflector in this context; other times, they talk about using it to do something else. For example, before the battle of Wolf 359 (or maybe after), they try to kill the borg cube with the modified deflector array. If they never showed it in action in old trek, it would have had to do, one assumes, with money, technology or time constraints of the time. One of the problems of space travel we don't yet know how to solve is deflecting things when travelling very fast, as even dust will puncture our spaceships otherwise.
@marvinmallette67957 ай бұрын
Personally, I would have used torpedoes or disruptors. That is what I thought the Klingons were doing. It took a few rewatches before I noticed that the Ares deployed mines, and the Klingons were destroying the mines. I would expect that the drain on the shields would be more of a concern than the depletion of ammo, given how common it is to lose shields, compared to how rare it is to deplete munitions. The fan community attempting to keep track of Voyager's torpedo rations really highlights this. A captain would want to preserve shield integrity as long as possible. Although, a slow reaction time might have cost the Ares the distance it needed for safe detonation of torpedoes. I suppose it is prior to "The Motion Picture", so Commander Decker wouldn't be countermanding a phaser order, but that is getting nerd deep in the lore. I don't know that it has been established that the deflector dish in the 23rd century can move entire asteroids as "buu88553" suggests. Though, there are "deflector screens", which I understand to be a variant of shield technology. Some of the terms might not have been fully locked down early on. Artistically, having a shield style visual effect and calling it "the deflector" kind of fits with the production standards and aesthetics of the Original Series, if not necessarily canon proper. It seems to contribute to a more authentic "feel".

Beautiful rendering! I do have a bone to pick about the engine sound for the Ares, though. That was the traditional "engines in distress" sound, which didn't fit the actions of the ship. You might instead repurpose the sound in The Motion Picture when the Big E fires up the impulse engines, as that's the only time I remember hearing a sound for that particular action. And maybe it's just because the design is close, but I think the use of Original Star Trek music worked even better than Horner's Star Trek III score. Still, this is better CG than a lot of feature films. Well done!

I agree. the sound was rather jarring, obviously without any acting sequences to deliver info we dont know y they are making that sound tho.
