@@matthew8153 There already was a lawsuit and it was settled. Per the settlement, any claims that Axanar is violating their agreement with Paramount has to go through arbitration. They can't just file another suit. Paramount has already sent 6 notices to date of violations and each time the production has responded. In some cases they agreed and made the necessary changes. In others, they disagreed and responded with their disagreements and Paramount has, to date, accepted all of their responses.

@@davidturner4024 The only part that grinded on my nerves was during that last "outburst", where Captain Travis was saying that the Klingons should be wiped out of the galaxy. Yes, we all felt that way at some point. Even Kirk did when they killed David. The parallel to us hating the Soviets was similar. Now the Soviets are gone, and except for Putin, the Russians are not our enemys. In TNG we find that we have fulfilled what the Organians said... and have become fast friends.

@Zardoz Good. Then we're in agreement. I thought you were talking about Axanar being garbage. From the clips I have seen of Discovery, some of it DOES look kind of interesting, but it tries too hard to live up the expectations of the Original Series. Plus, continuity is apparently out the window with Discovery. Axanar supports the Original Series because it uses previous lore and characters from Enterprise to tell a good story.

And that's why they were sued. Because fans are now doing better-looking, more interesting, more authentic Star Trek stories, than CBS..... So, instead of working WITH fans to make something that will be enjoyed, and be profitable, they decide to abuse their power, and destroy anything they see as a threat. Clearly, the people in charge never learned that it's far easier to make friends into enemies, than it is to make enemies into friends.

@@georgegbalzano9239 I was actually referring to the start of the 3rd season, after Star Trek TOS had been saved from cancellation by a massive fan mail campaign the previous spring / summer, that flooded the NBC mailroom with several dozens of bags of mail from hard-core fans each day. It felt like Star Trek was off of life support and the possibilities were endless (once again.) I finally had hope that the show would continue, and even take off in new directions, rather than wither on the vine (which is what the last decade of Star Trek movies and TV shows have been - for me - a long, slow, gradual decline towards extinction and replacement by a fitter species.) Although, I have to admit, I felt much the same excitement and hope for the future when TOS first came out. The first show aired - The Mantrap - gave me nightmares for two weeks … but I was hooked, and I stayed a Trekkie (NOT a Trekker, they came later) for the rest of my life. Best wishes, always! PH

What gets me isnt the words, the ships, but the uniform. Walking into the quarters and looking at it almost with a cross between desire to stand for what it represents and utter fear for the same reason. Those silent moments are what really sets this trailer in motion fir me.

Copyright/trademark enforcement. I think the whole lawsuit was to protect their ownership over the brand. My admittedly non-expert understanding is if you let people freely use your intellectual property without any legal challenge, then eventually it can negate your legal grounds for claiming ownership over that IP. They were fine with fans making poorly produced webisodes that barely anyone watched and was making nobody any profit. But a full scale production with its own merchandising, professional production values, and 7 figure backing--well that's another discussion altogether. Especially when you consider the timing--they were in the process of launching a wave of new Trek productions, including one about the Klingon War that Axanar might have been seen as competing with in a sense. Capitalism and art mix like oil and water.
