It is a perfectly plausible reason for 2266AD Earthers to have a grudge against the Vulcan. Originally in 1966, Vulcan was more the analogy of Japan. Romulans were Red China that had turned secretive between 1950 and 1966 and the Vulcans looked like the Romulans. Eventually writers decided to make Vulcan more like Post Colonial Intellectual Britain.
@STho205
@STho205 3 жыл бұрын
@Allen B and B when doing Enterprise made Vulcan sneaky and duplicitous. By having a unethical elite faction in charge. They used a monastery to spy on the Andorians violating their own treaty and trying to shut up the humans that found out. They kept Vulcan telepaths in check by Gestapo police methods (borrowed from B5) They lied to the humans often They were plotting with the Romulans against the humans while acting like space scout leaders to Starfleet That was a much more severe anti-hero formula than this. This is more like Britain dropping out of NATO when a nuclear war breaks out, and declaring themselves neutral. Then Los Angeles, DC and Texas are lost to nuclear attacks that MI6 knew were coming, but forgot to tell us. I'm thinking we wouldn't like the fancy mouthed Redcoats any more, and might remember older, mostly forgotten times when we fought them in two global wars, and they aided the CSA in their rebellion.

In all his interviews you start to see the mental breakdown coming. In his battles you start to see the toll taken on him. It will be interesting to see what happens when we see the Battle of Axanar . How many of the deaths will he blame on himself. Turning point or not the Federation will lose lots of ships and thousands of members. We remember Garth as a crazy man wanting to rule the Federation. Here we are seeing the REAL man and what drove him. SIDE-NOTE: Maybe if CBS had taken a route like this there wouldn't be the hate for prequels. There is so many tales that can be told before TOS. We have the Romulin War,, many of the expidtions mentioned in TOS. Followup tales to the Enterprise tales told from another ship. But no one is going to take a chance. Sorry our younger Nerd/Geek/Freek children. Things are not going to change.When you hit our age you will be saying the same thing. Unless..... Entertainment is changing and KZbin has shown wonderful fan films. Perhaps you can start here with your own creation. Like Star Trek? Write your own tales about exploration. Like Battlestar? Write your own tale about another race attacking with robots. You are our future and hope.

@@francisdhomer5910 Well that is the problem. Hacks like Abrams and Kurtzman can't come up with original ideas and good stories and know what they are trying to sell is worthless. They are also not only uncreative but lazy and condescending, thinking the audience is just made of stupid consumers. Thus, they hijack already well-established franchises and twist them to their own agenda, thinking putting the pretty, colorful, familiar wrapping around a piece of turd is enough. There are talented, hard-working creators out there, with good ideas or cool retakes on old ones. They just don't get hired at the moment because the hacks are calling the shots. Fortunately, we have the internet to offer them a platform. Thus we can sigh with relief in ignoring Kurtzmantrek and enjoy Axanar.

Star Trek episodes are not history lessons about what happened in the federation. There is Lord of the rings, there’s The Hobbit.. These are The adventure stories of courage around charm and character. And then there is the Simarillion . A tedious history of middle earth. That is Axinar. that nobody wants to watch outside of the bitter superfan community.

First off, the lighting is usually too dark and you cant see the ships good. Granted its space and if it were real, it would be dark, but its not real. So light up the damn models (CGI or otherwise) with some ambience so they have a brighter gray hull. Honestly, I still dont know what Discovery looks like fully. Theyve never done a beauty pass! And with the actual battles themselves, its an absolute clusterf**k. You cant tell whos firing at who, who’s damaged etc. the cuts are too quick, and the camera is too fast. I like the more static shots where its clear whats going on i.e. Wrath Of Khan, First Contact etc. Im with ya my friend!

No wonder. Kurtzman, a man who from the get go stated he never watched or liked Star Trek and last year confirmed he had no interest in Star Trek except as a platform for his ideology, was hired and given an iron-clad long term contract by Les Moonves, a man who never liked or cared about sci-fi and, as his first act as CBS ceo, cancelled ENT. Kurtzmantrek is working as intended; destroying Star Trek to replace it with a toy-selling show... except it doesn't sell, as abysmal audiences, loss of merchandizing and distribution difficulties attest to. No wonder they saw Axanar as a threat. It does everything CBS should have done and failed to with their very first season. And it went downhill from there. Star Trek was always recognized for it's originality, it's entertaining yet tought-provoking stories, it's quality and maturity of writing, it's engaging, admirable characters, it's uplifting, optimistic vision of the future. Kurtzmantrek is now notorious for it's clichés, it's boring, incoherent and stupid stories, it's lazy, vapid propaganda, it's despicable, unlikable characters, it's childish, pessimistic portrayal of the future. There are people who like Kurtzmantrek; good for them. Plenty of it still to come apparently. Me, I prefer Star Trek, like Axanar.

I cannot respect and take serious opinions that are so generalized they seem to speak from an "objective" perspective. This is condescending and presumptuous. Now, my (completely subjective!) opinion on Axanar: I admire the detail that went intro the production design - it`s clear a lot of efford, stamina and heart went in to the project. But storywise, Picard at least tried to do something different, while Axanar merely regurgitates military scifi and war movie tropes well in the confort zone of old trek - lacking any kernel of provoking new thought. Hot take / peace offering: Maybe both is needed to bridge a large spectrum of old and new fans.

With the background music, you get extra emotional involvement!! And speaking of the music, at 5:25 when USS Artemis comes about to head TOWARD the Klingon D-7s… sends chills through out!! You are correct, it’s about the PEOPLE!! Been watching this clip for a year, and I still get chills!!!

It's a great time to be a Star Trek fan! Great, high-quality fan films like this. Great new official series, too. I know all of it is not for everyone, but I'm loving it. A couple episodes of Continues here, Axanar there, then some Discovery, then a re-watch of Picard, and some laughs with Lower Decks. Then a little fanboy salivating over Strange New Worlds! I know not everyone likes everything, and that's okay. I wish that people would stick to complimenting what they like more than bashing the stuff that they don't. Some constructive criticism is a good thing, but most of what I read is not constructive. It can be needlessly nasty, in fact. If you don't like what CBS is making, then don't watch it. That's fine! But maybe tone down on the hate, so that it doesn't get ruined for those of us who do. Negativity can be contagious, and sometimes people on the fence just need a little more time. Remember the first couple of seasons of TNG or DS9?--not great overall, but I'm sure glad I stuck it out! Same with Discovery. Each season has been a big improvement over the last. One of the scariest, but ultimately most rewarding things a person can do is to give something a second chance (or third or fourth) and have it end up changing your mind! It's also okay if it doesn't :)
