Love how Dave is digging Steve's solo. Too many band leaders or headliners seem to merely tolerate drum solos even in jazz. They don't seem to listen....just waiting for when they have to step back in. Much respect for Dave.

What a performance! Steve is in the last stages of his musical career, but never ceases to amaze me. He is on fire in this solo and moves past his usual Gadd'isms. Impressive.

Steve is a good guy! A real drummers drummer and a real musician! Steve when I was 7 years old I played in a Fife and Drum Corp. Its cool we both share that background. It was you who inspired me to move to LA and pursue my dream. Although I was ultimately unsuccessful in that thanks for inspiring me to go out there and do it. I never thought I would have played some of the places in Hollywood I did unless you would have inspired me. Thank you!

OK kids, here's how it went down. Elvin Jones was really powerful and emotive on the drums, but his technique was sloppy. Then Tony Williams came along and was equally as emotional with his playing, but cleaned up the technique considerably. Finally, Gadd came along and played with the same fire in his blood as them, but did it with impeccable technique. And also added a little bit of funk for good measure!
@angelgarcie6 жыл бұрын
Dude wtf you're talking about? Gadd can't even play stuff like Fred,Eye Of The Hurricane,Three Card Molly or even any of the Coltrane stuff,he looks like he's dying in the fast parts of the solo,you can even look back at his 70s stuff and it still the same thing

Sanborn looks young for 73. Gadd looked older in 1993. I'm thinking Steve had an eye lift. He used to have loose skin around his eyes. Now the skin around his eyes is nice and tight.

Stacey Meadows YAY! I get easily exited to get responses& feed backs from drummers & drum/ drummers fans! Especially people have the same taste I guess! Lol.Way back in 80's there was no Harvey Mason's fan I knew of in Tokyo where I originally came from.But he has become a legendary drummer & music/ jazz fans here know him! Of course jazz fans in Japan know him now! When I listen to drummers , there are specific things I'm looking for which not any different from guitarists , vocalists...any instruments...the tones & sounds how they sound& delivered ! How picky they are! Plus styles & techniques & versatility , flexibility & musicality , technicality & of course the dinamics!!! HE HAS THEM ALL ! He was my 1st favorite drummer of a choice! I didn't care about drummers back then , now I really dig it! Lol.But his drumming sounded exceptional to my ears then...still does! I wonder if you play drums...? I don't .Sad.lol.

@jeffreykwon31736 жыл бұрын
Please don't expect more than he has done. He is now 73. You mean the same thing is not good? He already created a number of drum set coordination in his 20s~40s. He is still brewing his originality~~~
@renatocosta56016 жыл бұрын
Yup...He was innovative enough so nowadays he can actually repeat the same things a lot of times without giving a fuck =) like I said, he earned the right to do that pretty well =)
@jas_bataille6 жыл бұрын
It's called a style... look it up! And if you think it's exactly the same, well, sorry but you need to pay attention. I never heard Gadd repeating *exactly the same thing. He kinda created his own vocabulary, so he might as well use it as much as he wants to... and I mean he did everything from Aja to Crazy Army to playing with some of the greatest cuban musicians so... whatever, if you don't like his solo that's your taste. Ain't nothing wrong with it. Sometimes, I do find it repetitive, but that's because I'm obsessed with Gadd and bingewatch his solos. Remember we go from one solo video to the next, etc, so yeah we can see extreme similarities. But, that's Gadd, and he is somewhat militaristic in his approach, true.
