No BMS?
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY 9 ай бұрын
No, BMSes are not commonly used in those kinds of batteries for RC vehicles. The batteries are charged, balanced, and monitored by the charger using the balance lead. But for all other applications, yes, you should use a BMS!

Hello sir..as i can see that you haven't used any BMS for the batteries because these batteries can be charged with only balance charging kit..but what if we don't have one to charge..so can we use BMS..? What types of BMS is good..?
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY 11 күн бұрын
My batteries are intended to be used in RC planes and drones. In that application, it is not common to use BMS. Instead, you usually have a high-quality balance charger. If you also intend to power RC models with your batteries, you should get a good balance charger. If you instead intend to power other stuff, maybe consider using a BMS and a simpler charger.

What is the model of the spot welder please? And do you recommend it? Because i have bought one before and it exploded.
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY Жыл бұрын
It's a "sunkko 737G". It has worked fine for me. There are no problems with the welder itself. But I have blown a few fuses using it. It draws a lot of current momentarily. Here in Sweden we usually don't have more than 230V 10A in the wall sockets, but I have learned to plug it into a special socket with 16A and I also use an extension cord to create some voltage loss.

brother i have a battery pack its made with 8 piece of 18650 batteries...so my bicycle light have six 3w led....I made it work with 3.7 v.. my battery pack have (4300mah*8) 34a btw i want to know How do I calculate the bulb working time?
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY Жыл бұрын
If the data is correct, you have a 16W load powered directly from the 3.7 V battery voltage, this gives a current of (16/3.7) = 4.32A. The battery is a 1S 8P configuration with 4300 mAh cells * 8 = 34400 mAh = 34.4 Ah. 34.4 Ah / 4.32 A = 7.96 h, almost 8 hours of runtime. But I would not trust the data! You probably need to measure the current of your lamp. It may be lower. Also, there are no 18650 cells on the market with 4300 mAh. Maybe it is 21700 cells? Or maybe a fake rating. You could probably test the battery with a charger/tester to measure the actual usable capacity.

Thank you for the video! Don't you have to stack nickel strips to get the 35A current draw? I'm asking cause I'm forced to make my own packs cause I live in an island and I can't import batteries, but I can find 18650. I'm going to use 0.15mmx8mm nickel strips.
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY Жыл бұрын
It depends on how you are going to use the batteries. For RC applications, it does not matter that some energy is lost and converted to heat. 0.15mmx8mm will work fine for 35A, but it will heat up over time. For the larger batteries with more cells in parallel, I usually use one strip for every cell, for example, a 2P battery may have 2 nickel strips connecting to the neighboring cells. But I have never double-stacked nickel strips. Of course, that is also an option if you have a very demanding application.
@isavv_
@isavv_ Жыл бұрын
@@AxelsDIY Thank you for answering! My only concern is for the strip to fail and the drone to fall out from the sky.

@@isavv_ I understand. But that has never happened so far. Actually, some of my batteries have been through extreme crashes, which have totally destroyed RC planes, but the batteries have survived without any damage. I think my Li-Ion batteries are may more durable than off-the-shelf LiPos using pouch cells, usually used in RC models.
@isavv_
@isavv_ Жыл бұрын
@@AxelsDIY That's very reassuring! But clearly you know what you're doing! I will do a lot of research on how to understand if I'm doing a solid weld on a test cells and then try to build my pack.. Thanks again!

No protection board needed for over-discharging?
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY Жыл бұрын
No. You really don't want it in this case. It is more important to keep the RC plane/drone controllable than prevent damage to the battery from over-discharging. But in almost all other applications, a BMS should be used to protect the battery.

what is the C rating of the 18650 cell that you have used in the packs?
@AxelsDIY

Those are LG HG2 cells. They can handle 20A continuous current, and since the rated capacity is 3000mAh (3Ah), the C rating is 20/3 = 6.67

Hello sir video is just superb I have a quad which draws less than 20 amp I want to increase the flight time of my quadcopter up to 20 min plus can I pls my electronics can handel up to 4cell Pls say me which cells to use
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY 3 жыл бұрын
You need to know the current while hovering (or flying at the speed you want). Then you can calculate the capacity you need. If the quad draws an average of 20 amps and you want 20 min flight time (1/3 hour) you need a capacity of 20 * (1/3) = 6.66 Ah. 2 or 3 cells in parallel may be a good solution. My personal favorite is probably the LG HG2 cells. I think they are a good balance between high capacity, high current capable and relatively low cost compared to others. They will work in your application also. Molicel P42A 21700 are also great, but more expensive.

Brother what's different of 3s lipo battery and 3s li ion battery in the rc
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY 8 ай бұрын
The Li-ion battery has a slightly lower voltage. It can't provide as much power (Amps), but it has slightly more capacity (mAh) for the same weight which will give longer flight times.

Which charger can we use to charge this battery Please tell
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY Жыл бұрын
Almost all chargers for "hobby LiPo batteries" also have a setting for Li-Ion batteries. Personally, I have a bunch of ISDT Q8 chargers, but there are a lot of other brands and types as well. The only difference with Li-Ion compared to LiPos is that the recommended charge-end-voltage is 4.1V instead of 4.2V.

Do not glue the batteries together!!!!! The outside is negative, the only thinking stopping a short is the thin plastic, use the dividers that are designed for the battery
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY Жыл бұрын
Yes. I know that the outer casings of the cells are connected to the negative terminals. But the heat shrinks around the cells are good isolators, and both cells that are touching have heat shrinks, so technically, it is double isolated. I don't like the plastic separators since that makes the batteries larger, heavier, and bulkier. Not good for RC applications. But you should probably use plastic separators if you build batteries for E-bikes and similar...

Good day friend How can i make battery 2200 mAb 18v
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY Жыл бұрын
For 18 volts you need 5 cells. 2200mAh is very low for 18650 cells. Is this a replacement for a commercial battery pack for an electric drill or something like that? They usually use cheaper cells with very low capacity to save costs. You can choose cells with a higher capacity without any problems if you want. Also, keep in mind the current draw, make sure the cells can handle it, and maybe if you need a BMS for protection.

Can I charge them with 12v 1 amp adapter????
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY 3 жыл бұрын
No, you need to use a balance charger to charge those battery packs. Depending on what type of charger you use, and what charging current you use, you may be able to power the charger from that adapter. But it will take multiple hours to charge that way. A bigger power supply is probably more reasonable. Of course it depends on yore application, and how you will use the battery. Maybe it is OK to charge slowly...

I assume you mean soldering directly on the cells instead of spot welding. No, it is not recommended. It is very easy to damage the cells by applying too much heat or even start a thermal runaway or fire.

Hi! What’s their C rate?
@AxelsDIY
@AxelsDIY 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the cells used. For example, the LG HG2 cells can handle 20A continuously. They have a capacity of 3000mAh. That makes them about 7C. Some Li-ion cells are worse, and some are better. Cells will a lower C-rating usually have more capacity.
