Ballistol works great too. This has been around and used by sportsmen worldwide before WWI. It protects steel, rubber, wood and leather. I've used it on my firearms and fishing equipment for decades.

the axes I store for long term, I rub them heavily with stick candles. This seals in the metal and it also gives the axe lubrication when splitting and cutting wood. With leather dressing be sure to read the lable carefully. neats foot oil is great for leather but neats foot oil 'compound' has mineral oil added. Mineral oil is not bad for leather but it will damage the stitching that hold the leather together. I use full head covering sheaths. I found a low cost supplier if interested

Very much welcome John! :-) Thanks man, i appreciate it! Yeah, you are so right! People need to know how dangerous a piece of cloth with linseed oil is! It could potentially cost them their home, family, pets or even their own life. Take care mate Rasmus.

As far as the wood goes, it's more difficult. The metal head can easily be protected with lard, tallow or even resin spread out to form a coating on the metal.

Good instruction my friend. But next time when you open a botlle like that: Push and turn... that's the secret LOL. I've got a light weight Fiskars axe with not much to maintain ;-)

p.s. I forgot to say: Do you know Balistol oil? It can be used for almost everything such as metal, leather, wood, skin, fur weapons etc. I really love this product!

Is that leather treatment the same as mink oil? Very well-done and informative video. I should be getting the Wildlife axe next Saturday. Looking forward to it.
